    Li Na is not only a good tennis player, she is a great person. She said "Happy Birthday" to her agent on her acceptance speech in 2011 French Open. That was so sweet of her.

    i miss her so much, she's my favorite all time women's player. great form, angles, technique and brain in an era where that style is so lost on the ball bashers. IMO Li, Clijsters and Radwanska were the gems of the WTA in recent years for finesse and graceful tennis.

    Such an inspirational woman not only for the Asia but also for the entire world. She has shown the entire world that impossible is nothing, if u have desire and passion n of course the love for achievements. She will go down as one of the greatest and finest sports athlete ever lived. We Asian are very proud of her achievement in the field of lawn tennis. Winning two grand slam is just like icing on the cake. She is the perfect example for Asian prodigy who are aspiring to become champion. THANK U LI NA

    Folks don't seem to understand that because of Li Na, in the next 10 years the Chinese will take over top spots in the WTA. Similar to what the Russians had a couple years ago, Li Na has inspired many Chinese families to allow their children to pursue tennis. It may even be less than 10 years but she has just opened the door.

    How exciting! Na li how can I define you? I think the best way is, you are an example. Thank you for the moments of excitement and charm on the court. You deserved everything you conquered with much struggle and sweat on your face. You still represent the value of the great champions, that yes, they must always be homeaged and remembered!
    Reminiscing with longing on 06/10/2017.

    Though I am not very proud to be Chinese-descent because of the government and the way things are going in Hong Kong, I am definitely proud of all the things Li Na has done with her career. Late Late bloomer, winning two grand slams and always a class act. I'm the biggest fan of Kvitova and her incredible technique - and now I am totally in love with what a great person she is.

      I must say there is a lot of hatred towards China and Chinese on the internet and across the media nowadays, although such hatred in the media is portrayed in a much subtle way than many of the comments that you see on the internet. One must reflect why do I think this way? Because of the information that we receive from our surroundings - but is information provided selectively so that I am made to think the way "they" want? This applies to the current HK issues and many other China-hatable issues. Didn't want to get so political but I do think it's a shame that you are rejecting your identity for dubious political reasons. I'm not here for a debate/discussion, but just want to provide you with a reminder.

    • @cageynerd

      0622henry LOL -- I'm not just some random person. I am highly educated and come from a very well off household. I just don't respect communism period. I'm a capitalist. I believe in free elections and democracy. There is a reason why I would never invest in a Chinese company through Shanghai. How about you stop and reflect on that?

    Li Na was truly inspirational, although I was not aware of how influential her work ethics were when I got to know her 5 years ago. I have met countless of talented Asian tennis players in Australia and every one of them said Li Na was their favourite tennis player and that she inspired them to play. I heard 100 million spectators were watching the 2014 Aus open final as well. Major congrats to this legend.

    Very nice ceremony indeed. Li Na was a great player, you can't compare her with Williams or Sharapova, because she is not so powerful. WTA is not about power, it's about great techniques. They are not a men, they are women.

    @Tung Tran
    "Do you see young stars from Asia after Li Na?" Trust me, there will be a ton of them.
    To say that Li Na isn't comparable to Serena, Venus and the Scream Machine is absolutely ludicrous. Admittedly, Serena may well be the greatest of all time, but Li Na is comparable to all of them, no question.
    Were there similar retirement ceremonies for Clijsters, Henin or Hingis? Well, in the case of Hingis, it wasn't really possible, as she was banned for having supposedly tested positive for cocaine, and she ultimately quit as a result of that bogus drug test (although she's back to playing first-rate doubles, which is great to see). As far as Clijsters and Henin - yes, they were great champions, that's for sure...but the difference is that Belgium doesn't have 1.3 billion people.
    When Serena and the maniac Shriekapova retire, no doubt they'll get their crying farewells as well.
