I'm a huge fan of DAS and have completed several of their square kits. I have never, *ever* had as much trash from a kit as I consistently do with their squares (though I should caveat that with the fact that I'm also extremely fussy). With their older kits, it's less annoying as they have a looser grid so if a small nib sneaks through it's not a biggy, but with their newer tighter grid (which I actually love), it means you constantly have to be on alert. I'm actually about to finish Loved Ones Are Near myself, which I also did for their November event - I only have about one cover paper sized patch to go to finish and I did it in the square version. From just that small 40x40 painting I have more than half of one of those round screw top pots of trash. They do in general provide lots of spare drills but the high amount of trash in their kits was my only bug-bear with their paintings. I'm excited to hear that they've changed drill supplier in June (hope you meant 2024 not 2023 😅) as I've not completed any new kits since then. On BF I only got 2 from my DAC wishlist - the releases, while I did quite like a few of them, none were in the 'omg neeeeed' category, so I just slapped them on my wishlist in case I fancy picking them up in future. Most of them were also really big which helped keep me in check. My lack of DAC purchases resulted in me deciding to try The One With the Diamond Art for the first time though, so I'm looking forward to those 3 (smaller) kits arriving. 🐶🐶🐶
Hi, sorry for the late reply. did you manage to finish your loved ones are near kit? and yep, it was June 2024 that they switched drill supplier ^_^, I can't wait to see if their new drills are an improvement. I know they've got a bogo sale running at the moment so I am tempted to get some more but I'm thinking of sticking to their round drills for now. Oh cool, I haven't bought from the one with the diamond art for about a year now, I know they've changed their rendering and they're box designs. I really want to try them again to see what they're improvements are like, hopefully less confetti. I found the glue on TOWTDA to be a bit hit and miss, some canvases are good, while others were a bit of a patchy mess. Let me know what you think when you start working on them, I'd love to hear how they go. :)
@CrazyComicLady No worries! I did finish my Loved Ones Are Near, about a week before Christmas and so had time to just pop it in a magnetic hanger with some twinkles above it. So pretty! I ended up with around 3/4 of one of those round pots full of trash, but I didn't run short of any drills either, so it all worked out. I've literally just received my TOWTDA order so haven't had time to do anything yet (I got 2 squares and a round), but they all look pretty nice but didn't peel the cover back to check for patchy glue, I'll be sure to do that tomorrow though. Fingers crossed! I'm doing one for a Pink and Black event in January so will try to remember to report back after I've worked on it. Happy New Year 😀
awesome! which disney ones did you go for? I really liked the ariel ones 'so curious' and 'sea of possibilities'. also the 'whole new world'. I resisted the disney's this time round, I bet the disney ones wont be discontinued any time soon so i'm holding out till my birthday in march.
