Hello everyone! We have been getting a lot of comments and questions about why Nils & Bianca aren't dancing with each other in this video. So I wanted to explain a bit more about the format of this competition. This format is called "Draw" or "Luck of the Draw" or sometimes "Mix & Match" (formally called "Jack & Jill"). In this type of competition dancers are assigned randomly chosen partners and the rules, as stated, prohibit competitors from dancing with their "regular" partner; one that they dance and/or have competed with in a choreographed routine in the last 4 years (read more here: www.ilhc.com/in-person-competitions/#lindy-hop-draw). The goal is to have a true social dance competition where leaders are leading and followers are following a fully improvised dance. So if you were wondering why Nils & Bianca aren't dancing together in this video that is why. They were both at the event and did compete together twice in the following events: Invitational Strictly 2022: th-cam.com/video/wLU-8lFAFIw/w-d-xo.html Strictly Throwdown 2022: th-cam.com/video/aTflIrgfPJQ/w-d-xo.html Also check out our best of Nils & Bianca compilation: th-cam.com/video/gaR7-tb7rHU/w-d-xo.html Thank you all so much for your passionate and devoted watching! We hope to see you at ILHC 2023!
@@mornington2427 This was a "Luck of the Draw" dance. You see this type of dance event at all the big dance gatherings. There is a bag with the names of all the leaders and another bag with all the followers names. Right before this dance.... names are randomly picked from each bag and that's who you dance with for that particular song. It's a real experience of spontaneity and great leader/follower skills. At most dances, you dance with many partners. You may have one particular one that you dance with for competitions.
Jen Hodge's vintage Swing timing on bass totally transforms the Eyal Vilner Orchestra, making it much more danceable. Maestro Vilner, if you are reading this, you need to hire Jen for dance gigs whenever possible.
Brings a smile to your face! On a technical note: my regular dance partner is 5’2” tall. When I dance with someone significantly taller, it’s a major adjustment. Muscle memory is so crucial. Obviously, Marie is much taller than Bianca, so I am extremely impressed with how easily Nils seemed to adjust. It demonstrates what an accomplished dancer he is!
What a great team they were...pure joy! Talk about tuning into each other, mirroring, guiding...gee and hawing and ALL done with presumable nonchalance! The clothes were fun too without being a distraction!
She is wonderful! I checked out her website (mentioned below under another comment) and she is delightful - light on her feet and into this type dancing - AND teaching it - since 2007. Hope to see more of her on u tube. Good work you both!
Восхитительно! Такие танцы !!!Можно любоваться бесконечно! Огромное спасибо каналу, что предоставляют возможность смотреть эти чудесные танцы. Все пары прекрасны!!!
They worked off of each other very well! Also, notice how the music was a little more "lounge" here, and less "big-band." So, it gave them a bit of extra room to groove. How humble is this woman, at the end, to point at Nils while giving a cheesy-grin to the audience; forgetting her ego and just being appreciative. That's showmanship!
Names are drawn out of a hat immediately before the warm-up all skate. So they get one quick dance and then sit down and wait their turn. In other words, they get zero time to talk about steps.
From the perspective of a westie who has attended many similar events & watched hundreds of them on YT), at this level, all of these leaders/followers have danced w/ each other (in such events & socially) zillions of times "on the circuit" & they know everyone's moves, strengths, preferences, etc. very well.

So Nils and I had never danced together before this event! Our first dance was the short warm up before the spotlight. This was our second dance ever 😅. Our third dance was the all skate at the end. But we enjoyed every seconds of all three dance and really connected with each other 🥰
It's interesting. In that other video on the same event, Bianca is dancing with Felix (not Nils, her constant partner), nobody asked in the comment section "Where is Nils"? So it seemed all right for others when Bianca of course dances with another partner (what is common in lindy hop) but the big question mark comes when Nils is not dancing with Bianca.... But I have always sensed that the Lindy Hop scene is a little racist.
Hi Lea! I’m not sure where you are looking but I count over a dozen comments wondering “where’s Nils?” on the other video you mention. We were getting so many comments on that video I felt the need to pin a comment explaining why he wasn’t dancing with Bianca.

What a shame this kind of comment! Especially when you are sure you know, but you don't know anything
Although Marie is a good dancer, she will never be on the level of Bianca. This was a cute routine but nowhere near as good as what Nils and Bianca do
