As for the evaluation, often at these larger tournaments, referees will be watched and/or evaluated without knowing it, just by the fact that assessors are often just roaming and observing games as they go. The crew may not of known they were being assessed, and just went about their normal routine, making the decision to run the reverse diagonal for whatever the reason.
