Jan Martens: The Dog Days Are Over - Trailer

The work of übertalented Belgian/Dutch choreographer Jan Martens comes to Vancouver for the first time in The Dog Days Are Over, an ensemble work where eight dancers surrender to one act: the jump. For 70 extreme, exhausting minutes they bounce, hop and leap through complicated choreographic patterns of geometrical precision, in a bruising battle that demands stamina, coordination and concentration. Highly physical and hypnotic, with unexpected flashes of humour, The Dog Days Are Over seeks to prompt debate on the role of contemporary dance, the thin line between art and entertainment, and the complicity of the audience watching the dancers, striving before them like gladiators in an arena.
