the original sentence was death, so to get that downgraded to life is mercy enough for some. looking at the law, committing treason and overthrowing a government armed with weapons is serious enough, that is a dangerous crime which has no place in any society/community. No one can point the finger at anyone, we are where we are from a result of our own actions and choices, George knew then as he does now what the punishment for his crime was. This keeps our society free from poisons and toxicity.
Would you revert your proposition if given the situation that society is ruled by a tyrannical corrupt government, exercising their power through coercion and military subjugation of its citizens? What if the toxic and the poison you adhere to is within a particular ruling elite that controls and mismanages resources and through its own machinations, mendacity and malfeasance, is able to enslave people to a particular nefarious ideology controlling them like marionettes. What then? Does it justify civil dissonance whereby citizens or outsiders are able to acknowledge injustice and take up the fight of righteouness and restore justice bringing down rogue idealogues and their puppets?
I agree its in most countries that have a history of power struggle which is exactly my point. The geography is impertinent. What I intended in my exposition is to derive your position in situations where what I shared is a reality.
You seem to delineate and elucidate on restricted justice as though it is only one side of the coin. As you stated " No one can point the finger at anyone..." I believe that pointing the finger can be justified if one is subjected to injustice. We have seen this in history and in contemporary conflicts where repetitive arbitrary use of force to achieve sinister outcomes are met by the uprise of revolutions and protests against injustice. So given the circumstances I believe it is human nature and a universal dictum that when choices are restricted to the point the opressed are psychologically obscured from reality and that the exercise of free will seems latent, a call for arms in the name of justice and freedom is acceptable given all other necessary means have been exhausted.
Every children deserve to have their Father and Mother.Fijian Government if you have nothing to fear, you will relook at releasing all these prisoners.MAY ALMIGHTY ABBA FATHER BLESS YOU ALL. VINAKA VAKALEVU .

What about North America continent? Europeans should go home than? Fijians lost their land to British. They got their asses kicked by British. If Indians didn't come there than it would have been British territory to this date or Americans would have taken over that tiny island. During world 2, Fiji would have been a peace of cake for America to have total control over Fiji as they took over Guam and Hawaii. Thanks to Indians it didn't happen otherwise there wouldn't be no Fijians left. Fiji got spared because it was under British rule and had Indians serving in British Army during World war 2. Genocide of aboriginal people in North America and Australia would have repeated in Fiji as well. Read the Hx before throwing some useless dumb comments.
The British brought the Indians to fiji to cut sugarcane. The british never took fijian land. Of course they did needed lands for administrative purposes so some lands were converted for those purposes. But then 83% of lands are still native lands, which means the British never took Fijian land. Why are you sensationaling this land issues?
It's so sad to note that these questions are raised by people who are purported to have legal expertise. George Speight was sentenced to Death, which was later commuted to Life imprisonment, without a Parole provision. There was no mention of any Parole period when the Commission of the Prerogative of Mercy commuted George Speight's sentence. Therefore, we can assume two things. Either: 1) He was sentenced to Life imprisonment without Parole, which naturally means he will die in Prison; or 2) His Pardon requires him to expedite the Parole process (procedures). The Parole Board or Commission of the Prerogative of Mercy (whatever it is called) convenes regularly for the purpose of deliberating on Convicted person's applications for parole. The circumstances, status, or conditions for a convicted person being granted pardon or parole differs from person to person on a case by case basis. George Speight isn't the only person who has been in prison for long. There are some others who were there way before him, and are still applying for parole or pardon. Why should George Speight be a special case..?? He should follow the parole / pardon process like the others. The Parole Board or Commission for the Prerogative of Mercy will assess and determine his pardon on the set standards.
Mahendra Chaudhary was the the PM that clow Closed the VUSENA mahogany which was run by George for the fijian race and ABC should know better what good did ex britt.convicts have for aboroginies
