I decided to watch reviews before reading so I can manage my expectations and I think that’s exactly what your video has done! Still excited to read the book once I am done reading a different book series.
I think what’s so difficult for me is Liz Braswell struggles with pacing… I noticed this a lot in Straight on Til Morning, the story is way too drawn out with character building. Like I don’t need 300 pages of Wendy’s and tinkerbells friendship before anything happens! Much much prefer Elizabeth Lim So This is Love, and Reflection were incredible, and I think it’s because a nice and neat concise story!

I completely agree! I felt this a lot while reading this one, it didn't need to be as long as it was.
Tangled is my favourite disney movie and this was my first twisted tales book! I agree about the reality scenes and how they didn’t really add anything to the book. I also agree that Flynn was a bit off and had no real chemistry with Rapunzel in the book. I was sad to see him pushed aside almost as a comic relief character instead of having him be more involved in the story. I actually didn’t remember much about the ending until you mentioned the big thing that happens and yeah… that was a weird scene 😅 My next twisted tales book is Almost There and I saw the beginning of your vlog for that one and look forward to reading it, I’ll probably like that one more

Almost There is my favorite that I've read so far, I hope you'll enjoy it!
A problem I have with the Twisted Tale books is that it's hard for me to imagine that these stories are based on the cartoon characters because they don't have much semblance to their cartoon counterparts and instead feel like their portrayals from the live-action remakes.

I would say it depends on the book, imo! Some of them are more true to the Disney animated movies than others. But the authors do take liberties with the stories!
Can you tell me which book is the real story of Rupunzel for adults?
2 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm not sure I understand what you mean - the original fairytale (which is what Tangled is based on) was written by the Brothers Grimm, but if you're looking for an adult version of Rapunzel, I'm sure there are some out there!
I agree with you on this book, Amelie. It wanted this book to be amazing and I was not thrilled by it. although the "reality" portions are important once you read the Author's note in the back and it is a beautiful testament to a personal experience for her, I agree that it felt misplaced in this book and those scenes were kind of annoying. The action and story with Rapunzel and her friends would just stop and then we go to those scenes and it broke the immersion of the story for me. Also, I agree that it is a little bit boring to start with until we start learning the secrets of Rapunzel's hair. Normally Liz Braswell's books have been some of my favorites but this one was average. I don't know which books you have read but I would recommend Straight On Til Morning, Reflection, and As Old As Time. They are some of my favorites.
3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
I'm so glad you agree! I've read both Reflection and As Old As Time, but I've yet to read Straight On 'Till Morning, so I'll have to check it out!
My favorite part of this book is how it gives the characters more depth (surprising for a book vs a movie, I know xD). The best example is how Mother Gothel makes Rapunzel insecure. In the movie, when she calls her chubby and so on, it just shows that Rapunzel is shocked for a second. In the book it is clear that this almost makes her struggle with the self esteem. Also I loved how Flynn appreciated Rapunzels life style, but he should have revealed the Eugene identity before the relationship gets romantic.
I do agree on you with the real life portion of the book I read like two parts of it and I just didn’t read the rest of it of the real life portion I thoroughly enjoyed this book though yeah it did take me a bit to get through it as well it was very slow in the beginning but it gradually got faster and the story got better but I like the dynamic of the characters it gives some of the other characters more personality but Flynn’s character you make a great point on he just doesn’t feel the same as in the movie i’d see if you like the movie or enjoy it I recommend you getting the book but this is just my opinion

I also think fans of the movie will enjoy the book, since so much of it is similar! I think it would be a good starting point for people looking to get into the Twisted Tale series. As I've already read quite a few books in this series, I felt a little let down by this one, but it's not a bad book at all!
I really wish Elizabeth Lim made more for the series. While Liz Braswell has made my favorite, Lim's books are consistently good and she needs more recognition. There's already 4 books announced coming in the next 2 years and she is only writing 1 of them! These are how many books each author has written including these upcoming ones: Farrah Rochon: 2 Elizabeth Lim: 3 Jen Calonita: 4 Liz Braswell: 9 It's so weird that Liz has books as much as the other 3 COMBINED! There are some unannounced authors for one of the upcoming ones, but it's still crazy how much Liz writes for the series

Honestly, I think it's because Elizabeth Lim has her own projects aside from the Twisted Tale series (which are also fairytale retellings, if you're looking to read more!), while Liz Braswell writes almost exclusively Twisted Tales, as far as I'm aware.
I understand it was for personal reasons but I felt like the concept that this was a story to tell to the sister completely took me out of the narrative. It either spoiled something, ruined the pacing, and or completely took me out of the story. I liked As Old As Time so much better because there was one clear change that felt like an alternate version of the movie. It felt like an expansion to the original with the world building. This book didn’t have that the world felt so empty and far worse than the wonderful and exciting world in the movie. None of the villains even felt like a threat and Flynn was so bland compared to the movie. Gina felt so pointless and wasn’t very interesting as a character.
I just finished this book. I loved the twist, but the the ending diversed too much from Original. Queen Bathory storyline felt like reading totally different story with Tangled characters and I was like WHY was even there? I would have prefer more with the "back to the tower plot and something happens in tower to end Gothel's downfall" and How about Gina, totally new character...I couln't help it but I Imagined her as Cassandra because that would have made more sense, I wish she was in there
Trying to read this now but my mind keeps getting distracted by that "rooted in reality" bit that is nagging at me. Like this brother telling the story seems to know a bit too much about everything, like is he stopping his tale to pull out google and look up various subject matters? I find myself reading the lines that follow only to realize i'm stuck on the concept and have to backtrack to find out what I missed. Speed reading helps, but takes me out of the feeling we get by immersing ourselves into the story.

The chapters taking place in "our world" also took me out of the story!
I'm feeling a little hesitant to pick this one up, would you still recommend the book??, I love tangled and really want a good twisted tale.

Liz Braswell's stories have been hit or miss for me so far. One of my favorite in the series is one of hers, but she also has written some of my lowest rated books in the series. This one is not bad per se, but it didn't live up to my expectations, unfortunately.
I got a refund, cool concept but I just found myself eventually skipping through the pages and seeing if the story got me interested at all. Not really. Didn't like the modern world storytelling takes, didn't care for the religious parts, and didn't like how much the characters changed.
The twisted Tale book Actually is quite different although it has parallels to the series . SPOILERS AHEAD!! So basically it actually starts out as being told by someone else in the 3 rd person & that basically when raps mum was sick, they found the moon flower as opposed to the sundrop, basically giving her powers that change depending on the moon's state ( one of which is the ability to kill a person as when she was a baby, a handmaiden pulled her hair by accident &....💀) So she lives in perpetual fear of coming into contact with anyone. Apparently hotel was given raps to take care of & the royal parents were given visiting rights from a gap in the towers wall but they couldn't stand it so they decided to never go again. Basically she leaves tower & meets Flynn & while so gothel is planning on selling her to the countess bathory ( the blood countess of Transylvania who bathed in girls blood to regain her youth) & btw, gothel has the Sundrop flower still, reason this is relevant? Rapunzel is being hunted down by the bathory guards & along the way meet the captain who basically is non existent until the end( note on that later). So raps visits a witch who basically says " you can crash her & I'll teach you how to harness your powers" & so it follows that for like, 3-4 chapters until Rapunzel steps outside the magical bubble & gets capture & taken to bathory's kingdom. Bathory wants to use Rapunzel's killing hair to take over the kingdom but she doesn't know how to use it so basically bathory says " if you don't tell me how to use your power, I'll kill this girl & use her in my next bath". She wants to take over the surrounding kingdoms so she can have all the wealth & maiden blood she wants as she's litteraly sucking her kingdom dry. A battle happens & Gothel appears to try to get raps to come back to tower but she says no so gothel dips out, the kingdom of Corina's guards come to the rescue but the captain all but dies so Rapunzel heals him by turning him into a horse ( maximus) & yea. Gothel does die but it's because someone basically ripps the flower to shreds but it happens in the epilogue. There's the basic plot of twisted tale " what once was mine". Highly recommended this book, read it once in 2020 & I loved it.
I was so disappointed with this book…and THIS was the one I was excited for the most out of the Disney fairytales Because it’s my absolute favorite movie but unfortunately for me it was a 4/10 for me…worst twisted tale I have readed :/

I personally disagree, Liz Braswell is definitely my favourite author of the series. I loved this book and As Old As Time
Does the book have ink marks at the top because mine does and an I'm not sure if it's an artistic touch or a printing error
I thought the same too but can confirm that my copy also has ink marks!

I can understand why 😅
I read a review that this book has a new villian who kidnaps girls and drinks their blood does that get scary
I quite frankly don't remember whether that's true or not, but I can guarantee that this book is not scary!
@ thank you so much
This villain is quite unsettling, but it doesn’t do much and nothing “scary” happens dw
