Thank you for another lovely video of a section of the railway line. The music you have chosen almost brings tears to my eyes over the destruction of the railway line, the time and money invested in building the railway all wasted now.
That fade with the map and the drone shot at 8:26 was great. I'm still amazed by the craftsmanship of all the stone bridges throughout the UK, great work. Thanks to Darren for another fine watch.....
As ever Darren you come up with a great vid ,excellent fades and drone footage . Have to say I enjoy your vid as you go into such a lot of detail and don't just quickly skirt over things . Keep up the good work as ever .
Can't wait to see part 6. I live in East Kilbride which has a line to Glasgow central. But the line used to run beyond EK and I have followed it as much as I can. There is evidence of the line although much of the route to Blantyre has being built on. Thanks to online OS maps you can follow the majority of it. It was good to see the Whitewicks in the video. Overdue subscription done
Hi Daz,another stunning video with some cracking drone shots. Well done once again my friend. Also I love the soundtrack it's so fitting for the lost remains of railways. Another top rank instalment🚂🚂🚂
I missed seeing this video Darren. Anyhow myself and Mrs watched it and really enjoyed it. Again, astonishing to watch and realise that there was ever a railway here, before. The remains of what were the stations were great to discover, but a pity about the blocking up of the tunnel. Great to see the before and after comparisons, the drone coverage and the photos, being superb. Many thanks.
I am from Wilsden and the village is about 1.5miles away. I had friends who lived in one of the station cottages and their cousins next door. They remember the lines been ripped up in the mid 1960s and I used to go on the viaduct before it was public. Was up the two weeks ago but didn’t know you could get under that bridge. There are quite a few photos of the station on the village memories facebook page but not many if any of goods yard. Look forward to next bits as I have walked to Cullingworth and under and by the railway but get a bit lost on way down to Ingrow East.
I lived in the railway cottages when I was a lad. My playground, hitched rides on the trains that were still running but taking up the track. Had one of the hand driven carts at one point. I rode the last train over the viaduct and got myself in the t&a. Great place to grow up
Fascinating video. Great use of the overlay/fades showing the past locations of the GNR infrastructure. I walked up in the reverse direction from Cullingworth Viaduct and then onto Hewenden Viaduct. Your video has filled in the whereabouts of Wilsden station for me.
Another historical railway adventure, enlightening and entertaining. I never knew of cut-n-cover tunnels til now. Gonna get my AdventureMe B.R. t shirt tomorrow. When I wear it i'll think of the good old days. Thanks dude.
Watched your first videos, then fell by the wayside - but I'm pleased to see you've not just kept up, but improved on, the standard . . . looks like I've a lot of catching-up to do.
Yet another stellar video. The drone shots are nice and provide excellent context of the area. Interesting that new housing development on the old station site. Sort of sticks out to the surrounding countryside.
Just watched the Denholme episode. I worked at C R Taylor's [Timber] who owned the old station site. I was there from the late 1990's until the 'crash' of 2008. The old goods shed was part of the saw mill and still intact until after the firm closed and it was destroyed by fire. The steps down to the yard and offices used the old entrance to where a footbridge connected to the platforms. Both tunnel entrances at either end of the yard were still accessible, although the one at the Keighley end was very boggy.
Very informative and detailed video enjoyable drone shots . Really appreciate the overlays from the by gone days of the route and buildings on the course 👍.
As I've said before, the work you do is important to document these fantastic infrastructure engineering achievements by our forebears. Such a shame, nay tragedy, that it was all abandoned !!!
Great Video as always Darren, I hope Rebecca wasn't too startled by the Bull. What Beeching did to our railways is criminal, such a shame we have lost so many branch lines and stations. Looking forward to the next installment.
Fascinating. I have been traveling with you vicariously and marking out various features on my google earth. Thanks for your top quality content and research.
Really Great video, great memories for me. I recall looking down onto the track at Harecroft (Wilsden) Station with a tank engine and coaches stopped at the platform. Would have been very small and it was hard work scrabbling up the hillside from the beck by the viaduct. Your shots from the bridge pretty well reflect the memory. There is also another great bridge back towards Denholm from there.
It’s high time Sustrans linked the two sections of the GNR trail and opened up the tunnels between Thornton and Harecroft. It would be fantastic to cycle that far on the old Queensbury lines.
Can you imagine how many people would use this route to cycle reduce car travel, would be amazing to see all these tunnels open, just like the monsul trail, but mps ain’t interested in this they just purport to be interested in climate change
@@chrisb3830 It’d be great if the Challenge Anneka program was still on. She could be challenged to link the two sections! Could be done for next to nothing and on national tv so most of the country would know about it.
The work was started on the Great Northern Trail when my children were tiny, the first section in Cullingworth (using the fabulous viaduct) was opened in time for my daughter to use it to cycle to primary school. That was getting on for 20 years ago! The Queensbury to Thornton end was opened a while later. The bit in the middle will never get done, the attention has shifted to a different project at the Queensbury tunnel. Such a shame as a trail of that length would be a great asset to the area. It’s well used as it is but there’s potential for so much more.
I'm in absolute awe of what you do Darren it's fantastic and I so wish I could do the same, but only people with your skill are able to pull videos like this off and you should be commended for it mate. If you ever need a 50 year old mess to trundle behind you I would be more than happy than to bring the tea and butties;) I am a genuine fan, in fact my wife is getting jealous!!
Just found this video, and watched the others in the series. A pal and I walked the entire Queensbury route (with the exception of Queensbury tunnel) back in the 80s - at that time, pretty much all the tunnels (including Well Heads and the Doe Park trio) were accessible. Sad to see they're now so overgrown and inaccessible. Great videos though 🙂
The bridge is simply magnificent - beautiful. Your drone shots are just fine - you are simply far too criticial of your skills, I for one think your shots are just fine. Well done.
Me and my little boy have loved watching your videos especially the Queensbury lines. Can you please let us know when part 6 will be posted. The one with hewenden viaduct x
Good video. Always good to see you and The Whitewicks. I\f you have minute I still am unclear on the idea of the inverted bridge for cut and cover. Could you explain, or direct me to a good definition of this. Thank you. ON to more adventure, which we sorely need these days. A ;}
Top quality again Darren, lovely condition that bridge is in, I'm just wondering why do the authorities need to fill in some of the cuttings but not all .
I've been in Buntons yard a few times, I never knew it had original railway buildings on it. Again all these hidden bridges and structures just left and hidden by nature. Such a shame
@@AdventureMe i know but i wonder why , in wigan they either fill it or if it s an embankment they scrape the top off it , any way thanks again for superb films, from nick and tracy in wigan , still in lancashire , a world of lost railways too

The woolen industry - most likely. There were a lot of mills around there. Not sure if milk was part of it too.

It just has a replicated arch beneath the track bed. Instead of a flat surface. It's for strength.
