many people don't realize that in Puerto Rico there is no Real Estate tax, what this means is that when you purchase a home there you actually own it, unlike in the US where even after you pay an enormous price for your new home you still have to pay a yearly tax that is assessed using a formula that takes the value of said home into consideration. In Puerto Rico there are a number of other tax benefits that make it appealing for those seeking to establish a business there. I'm not exactly sure what they are titled but it's along the lines of not getting screwed by the government tax racket like on the mainland. There are a few other tax benefits I've read and or heard about them I just cant recall what they are exactly but if curious you should check it out via Google or some other search engine. Puerto Ricans are American citizens! You do not need a passport to travel to and from.Puerto Rico. It doesn't matter if you were born on the island or not you still do not need a passport to travel to anywhere in the US. It's like going from one state to another, same difference. This island has a very in depth history. It has been invaded by one nation or another throughout the centuries. At one point the Dutch had control of the island, then I believe the French had control of the island, if I'm not mistaken. The islander vary in appearance as varied as blonde hair blue eyed persons to very dark skin African featured persons. You have a number of people with red hair freckles then there are those with very strong Taiono Indian features still till this day. Tainos were the indigenous people of the island. If you ever get to travel to Puerto Rico don't just stay in the San Juan area, you'd be missing out on so much it's unbelievable. The island is just aa safe as any place in the US mainland. Just like anywhere you go use common sense. For the most part the island is filled with very very warm.friendly people and in most larger cities most speak English very well. Once you get into the inner towns is where you might run into the Spanish language more often. The island has a number of very unique features for example it is home to the only rainforest in the USA. There are two thousand miles of beaches, ranging from very calm waters to internationally recognized surfing spots such as Rincon, this are is sort of like the California laid back vibe of the island area. Then there is the third largest underwater lake/cave system.in the world. There is also the Toro Verde which was considered the highest, longest zip line experience in the world. It stretches across a mountain area for 1.7 Miles for the longest of these, there are many others there also. From what I last heard you get the all inclusive package if zip line experience for around $150.00 dollars, yes that is US dollars. The US dollar is the currency used in the island. There are so much beauty on this island, there is a bioluminescent bay, in which kayaks tours are given at night to get the best experience of the "glowing waters" which is actually some kind of tiny plankton that glow. I could be wrong what kind of animal it is exactly but when you brush your paddles or hands across the waters the effect is magical. Then there is the world's largest radial satellite dish in Arecibo, it is one thousand feet in diameter. It is used to search for ET's and other things in space it has been used in many movies as a backdrop. There are tours given to all these places ive mentioned then there is the Barcadi Plant, where you can tour one of the world's most popular rums being made. There are all kinds of tour option there, for example you can do a tour in which you become a mixologist, after successfully completing said tour they give you a certificate. It's all pretty cool, they also give a glass as your waiting for your tour to begin and you can get a drink which is part of the tour. There are so many things to see, it would take a book to describe it all and I'm sure I'd be leaving out a ton of stuff still. Let's not forget the Morro in San Juan that if the Fort built by the Spanish beginning in the 1500's and stretching out across a portion of San Juan. It is truly an amazing sight, breath taking in its immensity. Puerto Rico was hit very very hard by hurricane Maria, the people suffered greatly especially given that their major source of income is Tourism. Many lost power for six month to a year and homes were destroyed but this is a very proud people a very resilient people. When the dust had cleared and devastation was all about, the people got together, neighbor with neighbor, making sure all were ok. People shared with each other whatever they had. The disaster did not destroy the innate goodness of these wonderful people. Together they've gotten back in their feet and the island is just as beautiful as it always has been. The best thing we can do for the people there is to visit the island, go on a vacation spend some time on one of the most beautiful islands in the world. Make it a point to explore the island don't just stay at a resort or you'll be missing the real beauty of Puerto Rico, It's People! One of the most interesting things I found about this magical Island is that each town has what they refer to as their " Plaza" it's basically the center point of each town where usually there is a church, many of these plazas have statues plaques etc that give facts about what that particular town is known for. For example I have visited Puerto Rico in 2015 and traveled to this very quaint town called Penuelas, there they are known as the " Guido" Capitol. The Guido is an instrument used in Salsa music and other Afro/Spanish music. It's basically a gourd that is treated and then groves are carved in it and it's hollowed out and then one uses something that looks very much like a pic used to fluff up afros. If you curious just look it up. Anyhow this plaza was perhaps one of the most beautiful I saw on my trip. There are statues there and plaques that speak of notable events in their history and other things. They have an Amphitheatre there has a beautiful tree painted on the inside of it, that the town of Penuelas is also known for. The tree is called Flamboyan in Spanish, but in English I'm not so sure! This plaza.was very very quaint and just beautiful, the Church, the Amphitheatre, the Statues the plaques and the history they speak of, the way the have these fountains with the water going all around, just so beautiful. Well folks I'm sure each town.would claim there plaza is the most beautiful on.the Island and in my opinion they'd be right, lol. if you have any questions about Puerto Rico I have an extensive knowledge of the Island on a.personal level..If you get the chance take a trip.to "the Island of Enchantment" as it is referred to by its people..In all honesty it fits. Once again, any questions hit me up I'll answer your question honestly and as in depth as possible. God bless

Hawaii didn't seem to lose its culture when it became a state. So I think Puerto Rico would not lose either. And it would be actually cool for the US to have a Spanish-speaking state (as other states once spoke). I think the same should apply for the US Virgin Islands.

Some of us want to be part of Spain again like in 1898. We WILL NOT be a state it is just NOT POSSIBLE ,REASONS VARIES, among them because of the following:
    Politically
    Financially
    Culturally
    Morally.
While living in the island WE HAVE NO RIGHTS.
The US promotes DEMOCRACY like many US things DOBLE STANDARDS for EVERYTHING

If Puerto Rico become a State...nothing will happen to their culture...they will keep speaking Spanish and English as well...they will have a Bilingual culture...something I think it will be great.
