I love this series. One of the many things I like about it is how Ray (Ricky's father) represents what happens when a person grows up (physically) but not mentally. He's in a bad situation and his explanation, his lament to the world, is "some times she goes and sometimes she doesn't" . His mind, like an eight-year-old with a larger vocabulary, thinks this is a deep explanation for what has happened, what has caused the current problem. No thought about personal responsibility, the idiocy of gambling, making excuses for his behavior, his own myopia. Just fatalism. This is a funny show much like The Three Stooges, Seinfeld and others. But somehow it also is better at showing how low-lifes make themselves live a low life. Could be used in a high-school class on "how to be an adult".
