Love the honest reactions! But I cannot believe the winners. You are not losing your mind at all.

I finished the books (just for best Novel) a couple of days ago (beginning of October). Finally I could watch this video! I agree with all your comments, in general. I liked Cosby a lot and I was not crazy about Bright young women. I realized that people who knew about the story behind Bright young women liked the book a lot, while I knew nothing. I agree that felt long books and sometime difficult to read. My favorite was the Crook Manifesto (the last one I read). I would not have guessed the winner but I saw the value of it: original story, orginal voice, interesting story. But I did not enjoy it as much. Now I have a few months to recover and then here we are again!!! Thank you for another great videos! PS I am going to cosy mystery now, too!

@@elisabettaliverani2627 that's an interesting point about Bright Young Women! I think it does add to the experience if you already know a lot of the true aspects of it. It's interesting to think about how much we bring of our own experience and background into the books we read! I felt like I had to rush through Crook Manifesto. I think it's a book I need to revisit when I have time to savor it but I did really like it! Can't believe it's almost time for me to start reading the short list again! 😬🤣

You are mot alone. I love James Lee Burke, but this does not belong on the Edgar awards for best mystery novel. Actually, I agree that only Bright Young Women fit in this category. I dont know what they were thinking. Maybe too much wine while trying to decide?
