Hi from the UK, nice looking little Anglia you have there. I own its four door brother the Prefect (1958) Just so you know, here in the UK our cars do have the speedometer in MPH normally. Good luck with the car i hope you enjoy it, best wishes for the upcoming festivities

Oh thanks for answering that question. I figured it would be it would be in kilometers. I learned something new today.

My first legal car at age 16 was a 1959 Anglia 100E like yours, but lefthand drive. Went through a rear most connecting rod babbit bearing, had it re-poured, and same problem again. I was told not to let the engine lug. Also went through two rear ends. Now at age 70, I own three of them. Mostly rusty, one assembled engine. Nothing running. It was a fun car, though.

I'm in the same age group. I've only driven it one time it seemed to drive out well other than the carburetor needing rebuilt. I'll do another video as soon as I can find time for more maintenance. I have 40 cars now so it might take awhile.

I was going to comment since I used to own a '58 E100, but the language coming out of your mouth stopped me COLD at 01:35! There can NEVER be any excuse for that on TH-cam!

We have always used miles per hour and our road signs are in miles. Fuel consumption is measured in miles per gallon but you have to buy petrol in liters.

We use a lot of the metric system but they have never tried to force Kilometres on us yet in the UK

My Dad had one of these, but in two tone blue & a 1958 model. These are a side valve engine & have a distinct sound when revved up. Hearing this one rev was like traveling back in time to the early 70's just before he sold it on. The gearbox on these sound a bit like a ghost train when going through the two lower gears :) . The other aspect I seem to recollect was the loud hiss from that cylindrical air filter when the engine was running on choke from cold, does yours do this too?. Ah yes... I also remember the screen wipers being vacuum powered & hence use to stop when climbing a hill in the rain! :-) ... cheers from the UK.

I've had the car parked for a year. It went down due to ignition fault. All the parts are in. I just need time to work on it. lol

Sorry to Steve! My first car was one of these, 1957 Anglia model, 53000 miles, and six years old, and it was really rather awful but I had not acquired the knowledge to realise! Your car has a defective speedo but with a working one you might get up to 70 mph. if the wind is right. The first useless feature was the vacuum operated wiper blades, working off manifold vacuum, so you had a choice going uphill between a few part throttle hp. and seeing where you were going. (There was a large vacuum reservoir which I do not see on your car so I think a wise person has thrown the vacuum wipers away) The second useless feature was the recirculating heater which produced little heat and quickly steamed up all the windows particularly with passengers aboard. The third useless feature was the three speed gearbox which meant that you would soon be grinding uphill at a maximum of just over 30 mph. The fourth crudity was whitemetal cast directly to the con-rods so the big-ends failed after a few miles of full throttle driving. A very slow journey of 100 miles followed. The fifth crudity was the car needed greasing every 1000 miles, so relentlessly, which did not stop the steering joints wearing out (vague worm and peg steering for two inches slack at the wheel). The primitive side-valve (flat head) engine, 7:1 compression, did about 32 mpg. (27 US perhaps)
The car was supposedly suitable for "souping-up" (and racing!) and I quickly got tired of the body roll and zero performance. A second front anti-roll bar and radial tyres made the car driveable and a pair of SU carburetters on a decent inlet/exhaust manifold boosted performance and economy a bit. I also had a skimmed head which probably helped destroy the bearings. To be honest I think the top speed had gone up from 70 to 74 mph. but it was no longer so annoyingly slow.
A friend of mine demonstrated a Mini which was a fascinating car and when I had the money I got a Mini Cooper and said good riddance to Ford for ever although this car had got me around. I cannot understand how Ford had the cheek to be offering this car in 1959-61 as the Ford Popular alongside the new Anglia. Any classic car enthusiasts, shun the 100E as it has no merits.

I'm happy you've taken the time to tell the story, I'll print it out and place in the glove compartment for future generations.

@@BuddyCoopers You are welcome, Buddy and, no, it was suitable only for an uninformed novice driver. If you ever see the British tv show "Dial 999" with Robert Beatty you will see one used as a "getaway" (slowly) car. Proper crooks used the Ford Zephyr 6/Zodiac or Jaguar while the police used Wolseley 6. I suppose the 100E was quite good looking for the time.

@@BuddyCoopers You should like the cute Scammell Scarab 3-wheel tractor and trailer which would turn on a sixpence (dime). The ones I saw were British Railways, looking smart in Crimson Lake and Spilt Milk livery and one must turn up on Dial 999.

I looked up the registration number and you MIGHT find interesting it had a road worthy inspection ( mot test ) in may 2010 and the mileage was 57296. She next had an inspection in march 2013 and miles was 57409. In UK when a car reaches 40 years old it becomes except from the yearly test.
