  • Rachel Nichols, Nick Friedell and Kendrick Perkins discuss the possibility of players going from the high school straight to the NBA again, as LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady and Amar'e Stoudemire did successfully in the 1990s and 2000s.

I feel like the stakes and responsibility are a little lower for a new NBA player. I don't care how important anyone thinks even the biggest game is, it's not as important as choosing if you should take a life or not.

How about the players association taking a former player who had a great career to be assigned mentors for all new players coming into the league especially if they are straight out of high school. They can be assigned as a non-paid advisor for at least 1 to 2 years. Also a trust should be established as well. Let's say if they are a top pick at least 30% is put up for 3 to 5 years in a interest account. This way if they blow through their money some is leftover so they are not on ESPN 30/30 broke special.

No trophy or championship but a gaureenteed draft pick for 5 players that play the best during that tournament. That way those that are truly NBA ready will stand out from the crowd and be easy to find. Everyone else can try again as long as theyre still in HS. Or take the one and done route thru collage.

The reason why the one and done rule exists is because of the NBAPA not wanting 18 year olds taking veterans jobs. The three-year rule in college football should exist because it would be stupid to send kids to a physical grown man league like the NFL. I wish people would like you would stop acting as if there are gates on other sports. Black people can do anything they put their minds to just like any other race.
People talk about baseball and hockey drives as if it's a guarantee that you make it. Big money goes to the top tier prospects. In baseball, you're probably less likely to make it to the big leagues than any other sport.

The problem is why do we consider 17 or 18 years old as kids.....if people can't be self responsible by age 18, there is something wrong with the education system

Id be totally fine with 1&done if its the g-league instaed of college. Still get that transitional acclimation period but the player would be getting paid.

NBA should follow the Australian Football League. Players can join at age 18 (legally an adult in Australia), and clubs then provide support in helping players seek education. (However in the NBA, I don't think many players would need an education due to the vast amounts of money they make.)

It's basketball, not football. They can either ball or they can't. Simple. Zion waiting another year clearly didn't teach him how to walk properly.

The legue is better because guys go to College or Overseas. The Legue was terrible when everyone was comming out of high school and the percentage of guys that didn't make it was far too high to validate the guys that were ready. Also the average NBA carer is long enough to justify the players that spend less then a few years in the NBA.
Ultimately the Rule doesn't benefit the NBA.

Yeah but rookie contracts should be longer than 4 or 5 yrs especially since there’s a lot of players that are reaching their full potential after that 4/5 yr period

The reason I'm liking *EMONI* *BATES* is because he's already 6'9 and has the handles of his idol, Kobe. Zion is only 6'6 and heavy. Luka is 6'7 and not much athleticism. Ja is 6'3 & thin. Emoni Bates looks like the REAL NEXT GOAT.

I'd say no. Roughly 95% of the high school players need to learn how to play winning team basketball at the college level before taking the next step which is the NBA.
The college level is far greater than the highschool level.
The NBA level is far far far far greater than the highschool & college level.
Let me put it this way; You shouldn't go from elementary school basketball to college basketball. Correct? Just like you shouldn't go from highschool basketball to NBA basketball.

If the NBA stops the one and done rule nonsense, players who don’t do well coming out of high school straight to the pros can go to the g league, which will expand the more and more players come, more revenue for the NBA
