Well, giving animals to people without being sure they will take care of them all their life isn't the best idea. That's why shelters are filled with abandoned animals because people thought at first they were just "cute" and when they grow up, people realize having an animal isn't about being cute, it's a real life-long commitment. Giving an animal to someone is a great gift if they were considering adopting one anyway. But it should never be something done lightly.

I feel both ways. I had a dog for 14 1/2 years that I adored even as she got old. But it’s also a HUGE responsibility especially if you don’t have the money (like Prick) to hire a dog sitter / trainer / nanny.
