Nabataeans and the Magi Wise Men visiting Jesus | Avdat

  • The Nabateans are the lost nomad tribe that built a magnificent empire, including the hidden city of Petra. In this video, we visit one of the ruins of Nabataean cities, lying at the heart of the trade route, the ancient city of Avdat.
But here’s the problem. The Nabateans appeared only for a few centuries in human history. Shortly after the 4th century, they magically vanished, leaving only ruins behind them. This left historians with many great questions. But some believe they are the very wise men who came to visit Jesus after his birth!
So who were the Nabataeans they? Could they be linked to the birth of Jesus? And what had caused their disappearance?
Join us in this adventure to find out a little more about this mysterious tribe!
Special thanks to Yossi Dolinski for editing this video!

    Hi Rhoda and Sergio!
I made a small web-research regarding this ancient Greek inscriptions on 6:35 and 7:14
    These are tomb inscriptions (epitaphs)
From what I can understand the name of the buried dignitary is Germanos Alexandro (2nd -4th line)
And on the second inscription the name is Zacharia Seracin
The menora flanked by crosses appears on many of the epitaph stones inscriptions of that period of 400-600 AD.

Great video, guys! My wife and I love watching your videos while we drink a cup of tea here in England. I met your friend Yossi at the Nazareth Village last November; his tour was the highlight of our whole trip and our whole tour took the time that evening to pray for him as he continues to shares the Gospel there. I thought I recognised him, and then I realised it was from your videos. I took a little Greek in Bible college and the second line and first three letters of the next line say "KARIOSGERMANOS" or "blessed Germanos," which must have been the person's name. It does look a bit like a eulogy tombstone. The menorah surrounded by two crosses makes me think he must have been a Messianic Jew!

These videos are great. For the inscription at the 6:30 mark, I translate the first sentence as, "The blessed Germanus [son of] Alexander lived seventeen years and seven months, and he died unmarried." I'm no expert, so take that with a grain of salt. The next part puzzles me. It appears to mention the month Dios, the ninth indiction (which would have run from about 432 to 446 A.D.), and the year, so it likely gives the date. But I haven't cracked it yet.

    • @slowscape

    • @RGrantJones

@@slowscape - I can't tell what the first six characters mean. From there, it says, "The blessed Zacharias of Erasinos, in the tenth [day] of the month Panemos, the 14th indiction, on the Lord's Day, in the third hour of the night ..." From there, it becomes more difficult. It mentions "the third of the Sabbath" (I think) -- perhaps the third day of the week -- the month Panemos again, and the twelfth indiction. There is a parenthetical statement "Behold, those who oppose mercy", numerals I don't understand, and the words "Give him rest." It closes with "with your saints. Amen." It's a puzzle.

Here in the Philippines we celebrate Christmas as early as September and it concludes on January 6 which is the three kings (Magi or Wise Men).

Thank you for the video! Once you mentioned Shivta - I tought to myself why did you not include Shivta and Mamsit also? They are similarly spectacular and historic. Nabateans also went down to the Ramon crater and had a caravan serai there. I was waiting to hear the fact that they were arabs mentioned. I learned from a documentary that their downfall was the rearranging of trade routes by the early Muslims.

This is amazing, until now I never noticed that the wisemen though so famous, are so mysterious.
