AMAZING 5-Axis Horizontal CNC Machining Centers | GROB: Entering the Job Shop Machining World

  • 5-axis horizontal machines from GROB are large, heavy, capable, and fascinating to watch. Although they have one of the largest machine tool building campuses in the world, you may not have heard of GROB. The reason is sitting in your drive way.
Not only do these machines have a left to right Z-Axis to maximize the work envelope, they also crank out incredibly intricate parts like nobody's business with built-in automation and large ATC capacity. Chip control simply isn't a concern when you can use gravity to your advantage.

5-axis machining provides us with the following benefits:
Improved drilling process: This process allows us to reach smaller and more complex angles, as well as proving the capability to drill a set of holes with different variants without changing the initial set up of the machine.
Efficiency & cost effectiveness: By being able to cut your material in one place, rather than having to set up at different stations after each section saves a considerable amount of time. This also leads to less wastage and lower tooling costs.
Better surface finish: With the extra axes provided by 5-axis machining we can bring the part we are working on closer to the cutting tool. This allows the cutting tool to be shorter, resulting in fewer vibrations and a higher quality surface finish.
