I rebuked my brother regarding a serious sin he did in a gentle way, he continued to mock me and hurt my family all for selfish reasons, yesterday I confronted him about his recent behaviour in a harsher way (to my shame) and the result was more damaging to me than to him. So I think it best to try and win your brother or sister in a Christ like way but if they do not listen then simply walk away

If we go to them gently but strong and authoritative in love considering we are not without sin but we must be accurate in being shown by the Holy spirit. We must also ask them. Not tell them unless its blatantly clear. Let the Holy spirit do his job.

    Jesus rebuked the Pharisees.
John the Baptist rebuked unsaved common men and royalty for their sins.
    How about the prophets????
They were all killed for speaking God's word.
God destroys people who don't listen to him, so He warns of their fate, eternal death, so that they may repent! If you love someone you'll tell them of their sin. And how will they hear to be saved if you don't tell them.
I'm personally very timid in confronting sin yet The Holy Spirit speaks by the example of the people He moved through in Scripture.
Lean on His Spirit and Word for understanding.
Jesus told his followers not to judge (condemn people to hell) by ignoring them because the Jews thought them self better then the Samaritans a.k.a. second-class citizens. Jesus taught that if a people refuse to listen after being warned and presented the hope of restoration to wipe the dust from your feet and MoveOn.
They condemn themselves by resisting the Holy Spirit
Furthermore, Paul tells us that if a "believer" refuses and continues in sin to abandon that person to Satan and not even to eat with them.
Thank God he is so patient with us and is faithful and just to cleanse us and forgive us when we turned to him and get honest about our fear; sins of omission or commission.

I agree with pretty much all of what you said.
Just some small notes, as to your first paragraph, but John the Baptist calling out Herod Antipas (son of Herod the Great, King of Judah) was an instance of John calling out a ruler of the Jewish people who would’ve claimed to be part of, support, and follow the Jewish religion. So he would have known the rules and laws of God, which is why John the Baptist was not happy that the Jewish ruler was not setting a good example for Gods people.
And it is similar with the prophets. Most of the prophets and judges were sent to Gods people (the people and kings of Israel and Judah) to bring them back to God when they were disobedient.
So yes, we need to tell non-Christian’s of their sins, but it needs to be out of love (John 3:17).
And the good news of the gospel is so much more than how we are sinners, but it is about God’s love and how he wants to have a relationship with us and how he died for us!!

    • @confusingdot
      @confusingdot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

I think it's also hard for us to judge who is a believer and who is not and I don't think we're in a position to do that either (1 sam 16:7). If they claim to be a believer then we should confront with as much love, wisdom and humility as possible (1 cor 13).

@@confusingdot if we don't confront their behavior, they won't improve. But we have to do it like Jesus did, in truth and justice. Some people pretend to be believers, if they are genuine, they are supposed to live according to Romans 8 and are supposed to be free from sin. (I speak also for myself) . I know some people in my church, Paul would have been very severe with them and thrown them out of community after 2 warnings . But we are very patients with them and keep them even if they don't change.

    instead of listening to men
leaning on their own understanding, perhaps you should obey what God's Word says:
    First, let's establish that what
    1st Corinthians 10:11-12 is true:
*Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.*
Second, 2nd Timothy 3, verse 13-17 is also true:
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
    But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
*And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.*
Third, in the old testament, Jeremiah 5:1 says, "Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it."
Fourth, Zechariah chapter 8 verses 16 and 17 are clear commands:
*"These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbor; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbor; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate," saith the LORD.*
Fifth, Ephesians chapter 5 verses 11-13 is also a clear command(with a promise) from the Holy Spirit, which says,
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather *reprove them.* For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
*But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light* : for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
Sixth, Ezekiel chapter 3 verses 18 and 19 are very clear...
"When I say unto the wicked, 'Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul."
Seventh, Jeremiah 48:10, is also very clear:
"Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood."
    Eighth, Jesus Himself said,
in John 7:24 - "Judge not according to the appearance, but *judge righteous judgment."*
Ninth, in 1st Corinthians 2:12-16 it is made very evident that if are born of the Spirit, *we are to judge all things.*
    12) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. (13) Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
    14) But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
*But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.*
    16) For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct Him? *but we have the mind of Christ.*
Tenth, in Philippians chapter 3 verse 15, it tells us again,
Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Judgment begins in the house of God... but it doesn't end there.
As Jesus said to remove the beam from our own eye first, so we can then help our brother remove the speck from his, that is where it begins.
First, clean the inside of the cup, then the outside.
After the judgment is executed in the house of God, then we are to go and righteously judge our neighbor(s) who are outside of the church.

James literally says in chapter 5, that if we bring a sinner back from wandering, we will save their souls from death

Paul says to the church in Corinth "For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge?"
Paul to Titus: "As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have NOTHING MORE TO DO WITH HIM."
