I hadn't played Heroes 3 since childhood, and I was never close to being even an average player. Was invited on a date where the main event was an 'epic' Heroes 3 battke since that was her favorite game. In desperation i searched on the internet to find any knowledge that could help me to not look like a noob, and this guide helped me secure the win and a second date. Thank you Alex_The_Wingman!
I'll be honest... it's really mind-blowing to learn that I had such a big blindspot in my understanding of this game. I've known about a lot of competitive tactics, such as creating 1-stacks and forming walls with them, chaining heroes, understanding terrain, all that stuff... but I've never in all my years known about the map buildings like Pickets and Hives that give you good units early. I've always just avoided those buildings because they had scary guards in front of them and I figured that they couldn't possibly be worth it. I assumed you were supposed to get the good units by earning them the normal way in your town. That one little piece of knowledge changes everything.
@@alex_the_magician9483 So the buildings that HotA adds really change the whole game at high levels? Why add them if they make such a huge impact, was gameplay stale without them or something?
does anyone have a good video about how to play the desert? I’ve been practicing and now i’m able to break somewhat early, like during week 2! but when I get into the desert I’m not sure what’s the strategy
Having external Dragon Cave as a Dungeon player (with access to portal of Summoning) basicaly grants you victory on its own :) 5 dragons / week instead of 2
why dont the troglodytes take damage from breath atack? I understand that there is manipulation to force the dragon to atack the harpy because there will be no retal from her but there would be from troglodytes. But that assume that the computer "thinks" that troglodytes will also take the damage
It’s the “fake breath tek”, what you need to do is take retaliation from the dragon, then hit directly from behind with your power stack, then put one stacks either in the hex on the top left or bottom left from your power stack. The dragon then tries to attack the harpy because it thinks that it will hit the troglodyte stack with the breath, and not take retaliation damage that it would take if it hit the trog stack. However dragon breath doesn’t work this way, they cant breath backwards - it’s some sort of a bug, but the HOTA team decided not to fix it, so it’s a widely used exploit that everyone uses, and it can be used on any dragons, and also on firebirds.
You can see it at 10:49, basically you draw out retaliation, then hit the dragon in the back with your power stack, then put a one stack in the hex that's on the top left or bottom left of your power stack, then the dragon tries to use his dragon breath on your power stack by hitting the one stack, but the breath doesn't work like this, so your power stack remains unharmed. This way you can take dragon caves without losing any trogs, just 1 stacks (unless the dragon morales).
@@stonem0013 Because the dragons can't breath backwards. I've heard some people say that it's a bug, but the dev team decided to leave it as is rather than fix it.
Minotaurs are viable if you get a few minotaur dwellings, more than 2 ideally. They hit hard, but they are not very tanky so you have to be careful when fighting with them and try not to get hit. Overall i definitely prefer to have dragon dwellings.
Missed this comment somehow. You have to start somewhere. When I first started playing, it was also a success for me to break week 3, or even to be able to break at all! Just gotta keep improving from there.
It's because he starts with 3 stacks of troglodytes, which gives you a good early game power stack. Alamar or Jeditte can be a better overall main if they roll Earth, but you will lose early game tempo if you start them over shakti.
@@alex_the_magician9483 thank you Alex 🙏🏻 Btw, how many troglodytes should I have to take dragon cave? Cool video for Jebus cross, this tactic wouldn’t work on any premade maps, Altho some random maps are more balanced for sure since most maps have AI only players who start with big bonus to their army ect…
Most of the time people play heroes 3 competitively with 160%. 200% would just make things slower as you would have to pick up gold/chests with your main hero on turn 1 and focus more heavily on the crypts/churchyards/treasuries. Other than that, it would pretty much be the same thing, just 1-2 turns slower.

Because some towns are stronger than others. In a PvP game you roll a pair of random towns and then you and your opponent "bid" to see who gets the stronger town.
