@@Naphtali__ The original Disney drawings of the Little Mermaid pictures a caucasian girl with red hair, therefore logically the role should be played by a Caucasian actress. Just like Mulan should be played by an Asian actress, Jasmine should be played by an Indian actress, etc.

@@Naphtali__ Well, with this logic, the race and sex is not vital for any fictional character. That’s probably why people try to get a female and/or black James Bond nowadays…
@@fvnt0miix953 Jasmine daughter of sultan in Arabia, Mulan lead a Chinese army, and then Ariel daughter of king of Alantica. Notice how race plays a big part in jasmine and Mulan's story and changing the race wouldn't work; however, Ariel's race is alantins which is fictional race meaning anyone could be Ariel. So race is vital just not all the time when fictional characters race are fictional or being nothing to the story.
