    Nice! Like you said about the tank, I’ve found that adding snow effects to terrain is a great way to hide modeling mistakes - Build & paint everything quickly to an “almost good enough” standard then make up a lot of snow, slop some on horizontal surfaces where it would collect, pile some in the shade on the ground, and drizzle a little down the side like icicles to cover cracks or seams in walls

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Oh yes, the mud and the snow certainly help I'm concealing quite a few mistakes on the two vehicles. But it's good to know that when I do get around to making some winter themed terrain I can apply the same techniques that I used with these vehicles 😄

    13:20, I like it, it looks like he's yelling at his crew for daydreaming into the distance!

      You are absolutely spot on! I'm not going to be able to look at this model again without thinking of the daydreaming crew. Awesome! 😁

    These look amazing! Great work, love how you base each one.

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's awesome, thanks Dylan! This is probably my favourite Bolt Action army that I've completed so far and the basing really ties it altogether. Every figure in the platoon is kitbashed to some degree which, while a bit time consuming, really makes it a unique army 🙂

    Lovely work Ste! The Snow effects especially on the helmets really set them in the elements. Fantastic results.

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Scott, much appreciated buddy! When I first decided I wanted to do these with a winter theme, one thing that worried me was going overboard with the winter and snow effect and that the whole thing would just be a big white blur! I think keeping it minimal to the helmets and bases has worked pretty well 🙂

    Superb US army . The winter bases , the troops , artillery and the weathering on the sherman and armoured car : everything is stunning . I understand why you need more than 3 months . Bravo for this fantastic result .

      That's awesome, thank you so much! I didn't plan on it taking so long but once I started I really wanted to do it properly and take my time over each conversion and kitbash. It was definitely worth taking my time in the end. Thanks for watching 🙂

      Thanks mate! It was such a great feeling see the whole project complete with the armoured support being added. Probably the longest that I've spent on a 'set' Bolt Action project but definitely worth it. It looks pretty much how I imagined it to be when I first started planning it 🙂

    Beautiful army Ste, the hellcat came out superb, i bet you didn't even paint the tracks lol. I like how the sniper holds his sniper rifle, and the heavy machine gun crew. Your cork basing is very nice inspired me to do some bases, it gives a lot of depth to my archers, like shooting from above.

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Lucian, always appreciated! With the Hellcat I actually painted it like I normally would - hull,tracks, decals etc and then added the white effect. It was pretty nerve wracking as I thought I'd ruined it at one point but I managed to rescue it!
      I really love working with cork and it's why I pretty much based all of my recent Bolt Action armies on. It gives depth and and a bit of a mini diorama 🙂

    Brilliant work mate, really enjoyed watching this come together, it encouraged me to attempt some kitbashing with my US Airborne winter army too, not up to your standard but I’m happy with them, so I guess that’s all that counts🙂. I haven’t completely eliminated metal troops from mine though as I wanted the Band of Brothers Stoessis figures in mine.
    All ways a pleasure watching your videos, thanks for sharing👏👏👏

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Chris! Thanks for the kind words and I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. With kitbashing it's what you feel happy with - swapping a head or using bits from 5 different kits, it's all about what works for you and ultimately what makes you happy. And I'm still learning and finding new techniques to use, definitely my favourite part of the hobby. Best of luck with your Airborne Chris 🙂👍

      Cheers Stu! That was really uncanny with the medic's bag! I had made it that day and was watching your video that night and was like.....wow, that is really pretty cool how we both had really similar ideas. But, its a really simple conversion but seems to work really well. It shall definitely be repeated on future medic kitbashes 🙂

      Thanks Jan! I am really pretty proud of this army, it took a lot longer than I expected but it was all worth it in the end. It is probably the most unique and individual army that I have worked on given that every single figure has been kitbashed or converted 😀

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd always say have a go and keep ot simple. I sometimes get involved in complex or involved bits and pieces but 99% of my own kitbashing is really really simple swaps and changes. Warlord's kits interchange so easily it makes the whole thing a whole lot simpler than it looks. Once you've done the first one, I guarantee you'll think.....this is easy. Happy hobbying dude 🙂👍

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Niclas, that's awesome! You'll have to let me know how you get on with them. I wanted to keep the colour scheme simple and the winter weathering quite minimal but I always like to see other winter themed armies. And you're spot on, it is definitely cork on the bases 😄

    Great looking army 👍
    Have you any thoughts on British winter as I believe Warlord only do them in x10 metal. x30 plus of the same metal mini's somehow isn't appealing. Could German or US winter be converted or is that a bad idea???

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, much appreciated! I did think about the winter British and how these could be kitbashed. You are right in that the range is pretty small and all metal too. I guess at a push you could use the plastic German bodies. I think this would probably a bit of extra work compared to the US kitbash as it would involve adding the British ammunition pouches to the webbing straps to give them that British look. That aside, equipment could be used to hide the German look, British helmets etc. Certainly doable I think 🙂

    • @Salty_Sassenach
      @Salty_Sassenach 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OnPointHQ Thanks for the reply. Perhaps Warlord will come out with a new model kit??? I've heard that the Italian's are getting new plastic infantry later on this yr so I may start an Italian army instead.

    How did you get the snow effect to look so good, what's your recipe? Thanks.

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Gary! The recipe is Army Painter snow. I mix this with PVA glue and then use a cocktail stick to 'roll' the paste onto the bases. To give it a more uneven look I then sprinkle some more of the Army Painter show and shake off the excess. It gives it a more built up and natural look. Hope that helps! 🙂

  • @IratusSerpentus
    @IratusSerpentus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lovely work, this is really tempting to give my own attempt at,
    I have got to ask though how hard was it mixing the German infantry kit with the US kits? Was there a lot of gap filling?

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers! I would absolutely say have a go, it's always worth it. With regards to the kits, they all went together really well. The only difficulty at times was combining the Airborne arms with the German bodies. There is a slight size difference in that the Airborne arms are slightly smaller but with some positioning and a blob of green stuff, it is barely noticeable 🙂

    Great video and beautiful army. Any chance we could get a kit bash video for Continuation War Finns. I know warlord did an article on it but I feel its a tad out of date and think your kitbash will be of higher quality 🇫🇮

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Daniel, much appreciated mate. Ahh Finns....I must think about kitbashing Finns at least five times a month! For me they will be the ultimate kitbashing/converting project as there is scope for so much creativity, kits used, basing and a really thematic list. I have just started a new British project but I will give serious consideration for Finns being up next. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video 🙂

  • @warwickstephenson1613
    @warwickstephenson1613 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have always liked bolt action but one thing that's bugs me is how small the vehicles are in comparison to the tanks

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Warwick, you and me both buddy. There is definitely a discrepancy in scales between some of the plastic kits. This is why I don't tend to add any of the Italeri crew to any of the vehicles as it is really noticeable. A lot of people have taken to using 1/48 scale model kits as this tends to give a more realistic scaling between the figures, tanks and vehicles. Its not something that I have tried but I will one day 🙂

    • @warwickstephenson1613
      @warwickstephenson1613 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OnPointHQ yea 1/48th scale sounds good coming from a scale modeling background. Is 15mm a good size to play as iam thinking of doing battlegroup and bolt action in 15mm as its cheaper and you can fit more on a table

    • @OnPointHQ
      @OnPointHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know a few people that have experimented in playing Bolt Action 15mm and have said that it plays really pretty well at that scale. I'm currently painting two 15mm armies that I plan to use for Chain of Command but using them for 15mm Bolt Action is definitely something I'm considering 🙂
