I remember cruising through the writer's forums on Quora a few years ago, and reading the mournful post of a young woman who wanted SO to become a writer. Her wish...
"When I finish my book, I will have a sensitivity reader go through it!" -This said with such adoration for the concept, a sparkly new one at the time, as though writing with safety scissors was the high point of the exercise, and not the exercise itself.
      Women think very, very differently.
This whole SFWA fiasco was inevitable once the next gen of women writers got into the game. (The first gen went there in spite of it being uncool and weird, because the call was strong and they didn't mind being labeled as odd. The next gen saw the first gen and thought.., "Oh, that's what cool girls do...!" It's been all down hill from there.)
If you are reading this post, it means that it has been edited down to something which was able to sneak past the YT censorship gauntlet.

@@MarkOakleyComics Not all women. Just the silly little girls that never graduated the HS in their heads. Ever read the play Cyrano de Bergerac? I'll be 10 years dead before some pink haired fr**k with a bad attitude about life touches a word I write! "I may not climb to no great height, but I climb alone!"
All this is proving to me that I waited far too long to attempt to publish. I won't be published this lifetime. Maybe someone will find the manuscript in a drawer when they clean out my house? I'm not even sure I am going to bother to print it out. I couldn't have foreseen the madness of this era. (at least, I don't think so!)

"The literary world is dying" I don't disagree. But there is a silver lining of practicality: even if nothing new was ever published again, starting today...there would still be more books than you could ever read during several lifetimes. So...I don't feel like I am missing out on anything by avoiding the new stuff, since I am still trying to "catch up" on classic stuff and vintage stuff.

Weird to me but much of post-modern SF fandom does, in fact, see all sci-fi and fantasy as, BY NATURE, progressive so if you are not woke you cannot legitimately be a sci-fi/fantasy fan or content creator (and you are a terrible person). I have heard this over and over again in chat and comment sections. When I remind them that the legends of speculative fiction, people with names like Lovecraft, Heinlein, Bradbury, and Tolkein, would be regarded as thoroughly Euro-centric, patriotic, conservative, or possibly even (in the case of Tolkein) religious ("perish the thought!") in a Christian sort of way, they go absolutely nuts! Then they follow it up with some weird psychological assessment of each one of those legends to "prove" that they were anomalies and should be disregarded now. I am not making this up!

In COMPLETE REGARDS to our current day: It doesn't matter who did what to who in the distant past. When everything is about race, there's always going to be a two-way road of racism, and ultimately a vicious roundabout. We dropped civil oppression in the 50's. We gave alt-lifestylers full rights in 2008. Demanding any further progress is overflowing the pot. We regular people born into a civil age don't deserve to have our world revolved around oversaturation of moot idealism. No one will ever happy. True progress is to, as Morgan Freeman famously said: stop talking about it. We need to move forward as to-each-their-own, red-blooded homo-sapiens. To refute that is simply ...racist.
But I guess that's the point.

  • @willd1mindmind639

And most of the root of this goes to the idea that in order for African fiction to be accepted as being worthwhile, it has to be westernized. Because Africans have a long history of mythology and fantasy stories based on African cosmology and culture. But when writing popular fiction for the international market, especially expats from Africa in Europe or America, they have to try and adopt themes and elements of western culture and technology to try and sell it. Keep in mind that the term Afrofuturism itself was coined by a white Author in America. Now does that mean that this Nigerian author plagiarized all of his work? Of course not. And why did the author who is making these claims not go to court and file a lawsuit instead of an ethical complaint? And just for full disclosure the author is a white South African woman who submitted a work to an Anthology of African fiction and from the sound of it, wanted the Nigerian to give it an "African voice". Not my words, those are hers. So it will be interesting to see how this pans out. This also fits in with the DEI craze in Hollywood in trying to pretend African actors can only have "representation" by being in Western fiction and fantasy vs African fiction and fantasy.

Ha ha ha ha! Oh, the tragedy is that this was inevitable.
Women, when they don't engage their neocortex in earnest, default to base mechanical behavior, and they divide all people into two groups:
    1. *Infants* which need to be protected and coddled and controlled, (for their own good, you see).
    2. *Snakes* which might hurt the babies and must be crushed with extreme prejudice.
Also.., comics and sci-fi and media jobs aren't adventures (the way men see them). No, no. They are *resources,* which must be jealously gate kept.
Women have much to offer, I'm sure, but the shift in cultural power is apparently a jerky enough thing that the vehicle of humanity can easily fly over a cliff. I'm not sure there are any advanced cultures which survived this point in their evolution.
Oh well... Luckily it only takes a couple hundred thousand years to reset and try again. America was just the latest Atlantis.
This post, if you see it, has been edited multiple times to appease the extreme prejudice of the YT double X gate.
