I loved the version played by Karl Richter on LP (on my young 16 year old ears on LP it sounded better than on any CD that I've heard) Please also try out Andrew Arthur's version...it's wonderful as well: www.andrewarthur.com/recordings.html

@@VoicesofMusic This is the 2nd best version I have ever heard. The best was when I was 16 and traveling in Stratford upon Avon. I was wandering around town while my Mom was doing business (reason for teh trip) and I heard an organ being played in a church, so I went in and listened to him play. After awhile, he noticed me (we were the only ones there) and asked if I had any requests.
You know damn well what my request was. He played it wonderfully... for me. My own private performance.
      It was.... formative.

Seeing the organist play from the multiple angles really makes you appreciate the complexity of mastering the Pipe Organ. It can be challenging enough to master a piano with it's pedals. Mastering a Organ requires mastery of hand play and foot play of keys in the corresponding locations. The song itself is already greatly appreciated. Seeing all of the aspect involved in its play only makes me appreciate it that much more. Thank you Voices of Music!

I have been listening to various versions of this for nearly 40 years, I have my favourite recording.. the one I grew up with, but I have spent a long time finding one that satisfied both the audiophile, and the videophile in me. This not only hit the nail on the head, but walloped the shaft and spat out the hammer. Thank you.

I fell in love with this piece nearly 40 years ago as a kid, from the original Telarc Sampler CD on the original generation of CD players in the 80s (my dad was a hi-fi nut). I've been a total snob on interpretations ever since, and I've listened to this one probably 30 times now, and just absolutely love it. Thanks so much for bringing this genius work to life!

We believe that this work is by Bach. However, other musicologists have questioned the attribution, and one of the stylistic points they refer to is the pedal solo in the statement of the Fugue. In this case, the pedal solo is unaccompanied by harmonizing or imitative parts--in other Bach fugues the pedal statement is not a solo, it enters accompanied by the countersubject and/or other material from the polyphonic web. There could be any number of reasons for this, but it is unusual.

My humble recognition to the Glory of the One inventing music and designing the ear, who this artist composed so well for the executioner to display all these quealities. No wonder Bach and his family was in the habit of worshipping Him and creating music to His Glory. Thanks for sharing this beatu with us, mortals and deaf people.

  • @VoicesofMusic

You can see the pedal solo sounding the subject at 6:50. The paper which raises the questions of attribution is Williams, Peter F.. 1981. BWV 565: a toccata in D minor for organ by J. S. Bach?, Early Music, July 1981. The paper raises interesting points, however the style of the piece is consistent with early works of Bach such as BWV 1026.

    • @paqman67
      @paqman67 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It also sounds very similar to the toccata and/or Prelude in E BWV 566 and no one disputes that work as not being made by J S Bach. (>:

Francisco Carvallo, I am sorry for my inadequate English. I can accept that BWV 565 is one of Bach's compositions, but I can't accept that the fugue was original a work for the pipe organ. There are too much of fantasy elements in the fugue.(4:27-4:50, 5:01-5:33 and 7:10-7:24) Some scholars think that BWV 565 original was a composition for violin solo.

@@geiryvindeskeland7208 I think the "for" idea is a modern invention. It's possible that works were conceptualized at multiple levels, and we see this in CPE Bach, for example the cello concertos.

One Take people... Today's artists record a 3.00 minutes song in 100 takes and it's not unusual that live performances are disappointing.
The level of talent and discipline required to play and interpret bach in this way is totally underrated

This organ is based on the classic "Werkprinciple" layout where the pipes are encased in cabinets that carefully blends the sound from the different divisions into very rich harmonic chords.
By carefully selecting the combination of stops in the different divisions, even a small organ can produce a wide variety of sounds.
For a detailed explanation of how this works, search for E. Power Biggs "The Organ In Sight And Sound".

    • @VoicesofMusic

The Busoni is really interesting, and very creative, but the piece is really designed for split keyboard and pedals. The campanella effects are lost in the Busoni. I wouldn't say the organ (original) version is easier, you have to maintain the voices on the different keyboards and pedals.
