Hey :) This EXACT thing happened to my baby clothes my mother gave me for this bin. They were stored in just regular grocery bags. Some of them had horrible yellow stains from 20+ years ago. I just used some Shout Action Spray on them, let it sit, and washed with Oxiclean. Brand new! Only 2 of the garments were unwearable and I just bleached them (since they were white anyway) and they were perfect. I was so happy to see it worked. Give this a try if you didn't already get rid of them!
My daughter is 9 months old now and I have used the big bags that you did from the dollar tree but I also separate them into one piece, outfits, pajamas, and pants. I also just write on the bags with Sharpies. I have also done this with my son's clothing (5 years ago). I now also have a bin that is for all the unisex clothing that I have. LOTS of clothes to organize.
Very clever way to store clothing. I only had one child, but I did keep some her clothing pieces that I loved or were special - I need to take your advice and store them this way. Thanks!
I stored my sons clothes the exact same way...now I'm donating his clothes and it so easy to find the items I want and just take the whole bin with me. Great job!
I just want to say that I really love your tips. I love how manageable and practical your ideas are and how your execution and composition of ideas evolve. Keep posting vids!
I used those Vaccumed Bags from the Dollar Tree, I did not use the vacuum, but its just a BIG ZIPLOC BAG. I store my sons clothes by season and then I sell it to a consignment store, when the season is in. Thanks for the videos!!
I purchased the same type of storage bags from Dollar Tree and have stored some purses in them. I think it's great you kept your baby clothes. If your next child is a girl she can wear them! :) My mom saved my christening outfit as well as my brother's so our future kids can wear them.
I put all his newborn stuff in a Rubbermaid bin too but I didn't think of putting them in bags first. Especially with a dryer sheet! You're so smart! Oh and instead of those little green bins, I just kept his small diapers in the old diaper box!
my son was the same way he came out 7 lbs and 9 oz and i swear he fit 6 months by the time he was 2 months. i know the feeling! Im so happy for you!!!!
I do the same thing with my seasonal clothes, I do have a large walk-in closet, but I also have a ton of clothes, so I put summer stuff away in mid-fall to late fall etc. and I'm happy you shared the bags with us from the D.T as I've yet to try them, but will now since you seem to like'em, Thanks a Million..Have a great weekend/ week my friend!
Help me! I live in Davidson. :) Seriously, I love your channel so much. Recently, I've ventured over to your family channel as my husband and I are newly licensed foster parents. Our house is a wreck but in a good way from our gracious friends donating clothes, toys, etc. We have to be prepared for any gender and any age at any time. Wish I had your creative organizing skills to make systems that work... This has helped.
I'm in Canada....and the vacuum bags from the Dollarama for $1 work great here. When they first came out they were hard to keep in stock so many people grabbed them. Great for storage for sure!
I’ve been using vacuum bags, just not the dollar store ones, I wanted to make sure they were the correct size and that they actually worked. I went from 6 or 7 bins down to like 4, I combined boys and girls and that really helped.
I've had really good success with them with other long-term clothes storage (2+ years). Plus I loathe the smell of moth balls :) The biggest key is the zip bags I think!
Thank you so much for the tips. I have b/g twins which means two of everything. Bins of clothes are over running my life! I am planning on re-organizing all of them and plan to use some of your tips..
This is great because I have been saving a lot of my kids clothing for when they have kids as some things I just cannot part with, And I just throwing them in and then I am definitely going to get organized!!
I have used the vacuum bags from Dollar Tree for storing my extra bed linens. They work but you have to make sure you don't fill them to full or else they little mechanism to close the bag falls off and you run the chance of air getting back into the bag.
I am so with you on having a big baby. My sweet Andrew will be 5 months on Saturday and has been in size 9 month clothes for about 2 weeks already! He was born huge and hasn't fallen below 96th percentile for anything since birth! Hang in there! :)
I bought those vacuum bags from Dollar Tree...I bought 6 total (all they had) and 5 out of the 6 worked fine and have worked for weeks now, none of those have got air back into them, the 6th bag ended up having a rip in it (possibly from where the store unpacked them from a larger box) I don't think those odds are too bad! haha And they hold a ton of stuff!!
Great tips! I put all my daughter's baby clothes into storage but as no.2 turned out to be a boy, they were promptly donated to the local charity shop!! As we're not planning any more babies, all of Charlie's clothes go to my nephew, so no storage but I love the idea of the fabric softener sheets in with the stored clothes - I must start doing that with our summer clothes here!!
The vacuum bags work pretty good and they store a lot of stuff in them, I know they sell them at Walmart and you can get a multi pack for a pretty good price too!
Thanks for the tip about putting a fabric softener sheet in when storing clothes. Even though my clothes don't come out smelling musty they do wind up smelling plastic-y, like the container.
The vacuum bags do work will but they don't come out flat and stackable like you see on the commercial. They are more bumpy and slippery so stacking them does not really work. But your clothes will stay dry and smell fresh years later when you open them.
great video, where do you store your bins, back in his room or in the garage etc.. oh and I just love your new shorter hair style, it really suits you! xx
Contact brand has clear laminating in a roll,it works great to place over your label, its wide enough to use a letter size piece of paper&leave enough overhang to use the adhesive to attach it directly to the container.I love this stuff, its cheap&makes quick work of labeling. Its cheaper than page protectors&you wont need tape.I also use it to laminate my row markers for the garden&use the same markers year after year, its super durable.I hope you give it a try&then let me know what you think :)
whenever i change sizes but dont want to throw out something i store it in suitcases. i mean the space is already taking up space and then when i need to use the suit case they are in plastic bags and i just put the bags where the cases were and then back in the suitcases when i get home. would love to see you do a day in the life XD

My crew is older but this is still so helpful even in 2020 the tips and organization are so amazing!!! Kathryn you are awesome:-)
Great ideas! I would just suggest separating by seasons too. I live in TX so it's not really necessary but I'm sure it would be helpful for those who do have seasons.
the vacuum bags from the dollar store here are OK but don't expect them to last through multiple openings. They won't! They also tear much easier than the space bags. But if you only want to put things in them for example until the next baby comes along, they should be fine.
I have to preface this by saying I am ocd about stains on clothing, especially baby clothing. That being said, I used the vacuum sealed bags to store my oldest daughter's clothes (to save space) & I found that when I went to take the clothes out to use with my youngest (they're only 12 1/2 months apart), some of the onesies and sleepers had this yellow staining on them and they wouldn't come out when I washed them to get ready for her, which was super frustrating because I know that I didn't put
Sorry...I use vacuum bags but I got them from amazon. They helped me fit more clothes into fewer bins. I packed NB-12 months started out in ten bins and went down to
How do you store all your plastic bins? You have bins for baby cloths, seasonal decorations etc. How and where do u store them? Also if I have a tiny space say a tiny apartment what/where are some innovative ways I could store bins? (I also love bins)
I'm not sure whtr It's available in yr country but in Singapore we have such "ziploc" bags but there's a non return air valve attached to it. So u don't need a vacuum cleaner and all u do is to roll the air out. Perhaps u can try to find on ebay the bags came from China and Japan. Maybe u can chk out daiso too.
I have had terrible luck with the vacuum bags staying sealed, regardless of where purchased. I haven't tried the one way valve bags that you roll the air out of...could be better?
If the cloths are still in good condition and you happen to have a girl next time, you could take some of the boys cloths/shoes/other items to a consignment shop to sell and you will have money to go towards girls items/cloths/girls toys/formula/buy more bottles if needed. And those plastic boxes are good to keep mice & rats out of cloths, plus help reduce mold & mildew like you mentioned. Mice & rats like to chew clothing and leave droppings which are harmful to peoples breathing.
...any clothes away stained. So I don't know if anyone else had that trouble, but I'm trying to avoid using plastic bags, especially those space saving bags this time around, especially with their outfits that are really nice or used for a special occasion.
I bought a bag that you can suck out all the air from the dollar store, here in Canada. The vacuum does take out all the air from the plastic bags but unfortunately this storage bag only worked for a couple of days!
they way your organizing the kids clothes you can easily sell them as lots later on facebook or where ever and make quick money easily to save your family money on future clothes.
hi there just lovn n benfitting frm ur great videos gud job. one question i have to store clothes in cartons and just wooried that they might get bit of moisture in them , as it gets so cold in London so any advice of how to keep dem safe frm moisture. Many thanks. Sadia
I'm sorry this is 7months since you posted. Hope you figured out what works for you by now,but if you haven't. I live in a super cold climate in winter and hot in summer. Honestly plastic storage is best for keeping the moisture out also put tissue paper for gifts in with it to "soak " up any moisture first. But as long as they are clean a fully dried before storage there should be no problems. Also storing in a regulated temperature spot like a closet in your home or a cool dry basement etc. hope this helps 😊
I don't like those 'sucking out air' bags. They are a total pain to use and they are really only suitable if you are not going to be accessing the bag regularly. I ended up chucking mine and going back to plastic under-bed storage boxes and bags.
The vacuum bags are awful. My clothes were incredibly wrinkled. I always use dryer sheets. I couldnt get rid of the plastic smell even after several washes.

It's going great. Haven't had to change a thing other than update the sizes on the bins as he grows. I'm loving it! :)
I put all his newborn stuff in a Rubbermaid bin too but I didn't think of putting them in bags first. Especially with a dryer sheet! You're so smart! Oh and instead of those little green bins, I just kept his small diapers in the old diaper box!

YES the dollar tree vac bags are great!! I used them for moving and can fit a twin size blanket inside
Thank you, Gabrielle! That means a lot to me!

I am storing all of our baby clothes and everything under our bed in suitcases. We have 5 suitcases under one full size bed!
I've had really good success with them with other long-term clothes storage (2+ years). Plus I loathe the smell of moth balls :) The biggest key is the zip bags I think!
I'm going to the Dollar Store right now to get those storage bags and green containers. Your the best!
Thank you so much for the tips. I have b/g twins which means two of everything. Bins of clothes are over running my life! I am planning on re-organizing all of them and plan to use some of your tips..

You were smart to keep the diaper box :) Then you could just rubber-band them and stick each of the extra sizes in. Genius, girl! ;)
Thanks for the tip about putting a fabric softener sheet in when storing clothes. Even though my clothes don't come out smelling musty they do wind up smelling plastic-y, like the container.

That's a great system :) I do have DITL vlogs on my other channel, doitonadimefamily :)
Love it! I thought it was cool that my mom saved some of my clothes, too :)
NC has seasons more or less...but we don't really need super heavy jackets here. Maybe I will organize it like that as he gets older?
whenever i change sizes but dont want to throw out something i store it in suitcases. i mean the space is already taking up space and then when i need to use the suit case they are in plastic bags and i just put the bags where the cases were and then back in the suitcases when i get home. would love to see you do a day in the life XD

How is the closet system with the dollar tree bins going? I loved the no fold idea and the dry erase labels. Maybe closet update soon?
Omg, YES! It's flying by.
the vacuum bags from the dollar store here are OK but don't expect them to last through multiple openings. They won't! They also tear much easier than the space bags. But if you only want to put things in them for example until the next baby comes along, they should be fine.
I used some empty baby wipes containers to store small items.

The bags from the Dollar Tree do work. They are smaller than the regular vacuum bags though but works fine/
Thanks, Laura! These are going to be stored in our attic :)
Vac bags from dollar tree are awesome, especially for sheets and stuffed animals :)
Great vlog! Would you happen to know if fabric softener sheets work as well (if not better) than mothballs?
Sorry...I use vacuum bags but I got them from amazon. They helped me fit more clothes into fewer bins. I packed NB-12 months started out in ten bins and went down to

Luke is 12 weeks and he's in 6 ninth onesies too! Pants are 3 months tho! He has short legs lol They grow so fast huh!?
great video I am in the process of moving so I needed a way to store my babys clothes which he is no longer using
This video was very helpful and I definitely plan on doing this! Thank you! :)
This was really helpful thank you
I have had terrible luck with the vacuum bags staying sealed, regardless of where purchased. I haven't tried the one way valve bags that you roll the air out of...could be better?
I LoVe those Green Containers
Super good n well organized
i been really enjoying the music at the end or beginning of your recent videos :)!!!!
Awesome video Kathryn!!! Kids baby Carson for us!!'
That's pretty good odds!

My husband said the vacuum bags don't work good
Good
Every time I buy the vacuum bags from dollarama (canadian dollar tree at this point lol) they unvaccum within a week -.-
I use vacuum
To 6.5
And that is why I cloth diaper.
Don’t buy dollar store vacuumed bags!! Not worth it!!
