I lived in San Francisco in the 80s and most of the 90s. It was very scary and common to see the face of AIDS almost daily. Back then it was somewhat easy to spot because of the physical effects. My friend (a Caucasian woman) was 23 when she died of AIDS in 93". Watching her physical appearance change dramatically within 90 days totally freaked me out. I decided that casual sex wasn't worth it to me anymore and I had to stop treating sex like a recreational activity. Today I am 46 and I have been celibate most my adult life. That's how much it affected me. Thanks for posting this. We need to remember those we lost and how devastating this time was.

Beginning in the late 1980's some 1000 month were dying in the SF area. In 1991 my father had a heart transplant at Stanford and caught Listeria 😳. The Fed showed up Quickly. "Would you be here if I had AIDS?" He asked. NO said the Fed. And the farce goes on. Over 1 million year die of AIDS, 30 million+, since 1990.
