I just love how Hubie's voice just becomes this beautiful booming soprano when someone finally asks him about the things that he finds curious....just gorgeous...and it really defines him overall character

I doubt if Martin Short is a tenor anymore! It's been quite some time since this movie! Over 20 years have passed and his voice is still beautiful!He is no baritone but he can hit those low notes effortlessly now!l loved Martin Short since I was ten and he always is such a ham!
I love that in the middle he gets swept up in the moment and his singing becomes stronger, no stutter... And how adorably dorky is he at the end getting himself all tangled in his scarf? Lol, poor Hubie!
I love how he blossoms around her. He's so shy and bumbling typically, but with her enouragement, he belts out these profound thoughts. They were such an adorable couple.
You know, Pebble and the Penguin would make a great Broadway Musical with the right people involved

Not a great movie overall, but I just love Hubie and Marina's romance here. No pointless bickering or him having to become "normal" to win her love. He's genuinely awkward and offbeat and she's genuinely interested in him and what matters to him. She encourages him throughout the song whenever he starts getting anxious or self-deprecating. The way he lights up when she tells him "Go on". It's just lovely. I can't say this is one of the best movies ever made, but it is one of my favourites.

***** it was weird. it looked weird at some moments but nice other. I wouldn't re watch it. This is not a movie for an adult watchnig with the kids. Some of Don bluths movies were for both adults and kids. This was an only kids movie. Also the animation on the Debie is a little off sometimes.
I love how everyone in the comment section is gushing about how romantic this song is... and I'm freaking the fuck out about Hubie's pupils showing through his eyelids at 1:57

I’m about to say a lot:
I may not like the movie as a whole like other animated films, but the more I watch this scene, the more it strikes a chord with me. It’s such a strong moment of vulnerability that shows how strength can shine through when you’re with the right person. It seems like Hubie wasn’t sure of himself in the beginning, or of who he’d end up with, but after stumbling on Marina and learning that she’s not just attractive to his eye, but also is a valuable ear to his wonderings, he showed that he’s different than the others, deeper, and more genuine. I feel like I’m not genuine like him, and after watching this part, especially when he says “sometimes, I wonder if there’ll ever be, someone right for me. . .” It hits deep. I don’t know, man I love his voice actor’s vocal performance here. How he just opens up.
This was me as a kid. Stuttering problem, wonder, and a dreamer. Still a dreamer and wondering to this day. Became wiser and creative because of it.

The Pebble and the Penguin is my second favourite Don Bluth movie after Thumbelina. I love it when Martin Short sings, it makes my heart happy! ❤️

Gotta be brutally honest, I'm a lot like Hubie in real life social interactions. I actually wish I was as confident as I am typing out my thoughts here online when interacting with others offline in real life. Everyone just ends up thinking I'm stupid or weird to a point they don't want anything to do with me.😪
Hence, I often end up getting socially neglected and romantically rejected.
At least Hubie is lucky to have an open-minded friend/then-wife who can see past through his weirdness and still love him for who he is.
I watched the critic's review after growing up with this. It has it's problems. But I still love it. I watched it to much to hate it. I love the characters. I agree with the critic's points. But I still love it.
Hubie, you have a wonderful voice. You shouldn't be embarrassed about what you're saying or going to say to Marina. She likes you just the way you are. Just like I do.

Spring Chicken Yeah I only saw it twice seven years ago after seeing bits and pieces as a kid. Maybe one thing would be if the love triangle wasn't too similar to Belle Beast and Gaston. Change it to a typical nerd vs jock conflict over the popular girl
