    Part 2 to come! Make sure to press the bell button for both my channel and Qi La La’s channel.

    Absolutely WC. Complete with the angles and levels that should be used with the bridge. Trap, trap, strike, move off line. It starts to look like what you'd expect of a real Shao Lin type fighter with those quick level changes.
    Got to watch this a couple of times. Thanks.
    Yes... that almost Capoeira! I though he was going to do a spinning kick.

    Sub, follower of the channel and Wing Chun practitioner for many years. I'm so inspired by the Wing Chun I see presented by Qi La La here! The 3 principles are displayed even in the level changes and other movements that could be ascribed to other practices. I see my own movements in the light sparring I do reflected in Qi La La and I am ever more encouraged to continue training and working with my body, energy, in movement, through intent.

    Qi La La is like my favorite kung fu fighter right now. no bs, always pressure testing, but stays traditional...although I hope he used more lateral motions & sidestepping

    Very interesting and unexpected moves.
    I like it how he breaks the rhythm when bowing a bit and staying there.
    Any trained fighter would expect a fast recoil but he stays there an extra second.

    Good solid wing chun. Love that he is able to bridge and connect. It was cool when he connected to his opponent's guard, who then brought Qi La La's hand down, in which he came back over the top. He has a similar approach to me with wing chun in sparring but I do some slight different things. Great video!

    Qi La La wing chun journey is inspiring. He is at the wrong end of 30. If he was in his 20s, I believe he could be a much better wing chun practitioner.
    I have to admit it is really hard to pull of wing chun moves in boxing gloves, and sometimes it’s more convenient to just do boxing but somehow he managed to pull off some wing chun.

    Qi La La blends wingchun with kickboxing like I do and it's really interesting to watch. Loved his use of trapping and sticky hands here. Didn't see any chain punching which is odd, I definitely would have done that at certain moments.

    3:43 roundhouse countered with another roundhouse! Might be the best example I've ever seen. That hurts really bad when someone can jam your hip, you go limp trying to pull the kick. Pretty sure he did hurt the big fellas hip too, that's why he upped the intensity.

  • @nathandrake5544
    @nathandrake5544 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    5:45 It looks like he tried to use bong sau there, which is my personal theory of how it was meant to be applied. Some of the Wing Chun techniques that are taught as deflections might have intended to be more similar to a frame

    Exactly. The Clinch IS Wing Chun. Not walking flat footed with chained straight blasts. The only thing he needs to do differently is put his dead weight into the guy when he clinches him and try to turn the guys shoulders, it will stifle some of that counter-punching. Under the kickboxing rules, he stands in The Pocket too much though. Great session overall. Wing Chun is so tactile, it’s difficult to express with BOXING gloves. MMA Gloves would have probably upped his performance even more. Rackemann Martial Arts is the youtube channel you want to check out. Him and Qi La La linking up would be massive

  • @Aikibiker1
    @Aikibiker1 ปีที่แล้ว

    That sweep he was trying to do is very analogous to an Aikido technique called sokumen iriminage. From an Aikido perspective he needed to tilt the boxer's chin up a little to force his hips to shift forwards, then drop his weight so his arm landed on the juncture of the upper chest and throat. That said I have never used that particular technique on a resisting opponent. The closest I have come was the regular iriminage and a sweep type kick to the calf combined with reaching around from behind to tilt the chin up. Both of those were on diminished opponents, one drunk and one on drugs. Bouncing their head's off the ground worked very well, nor sure of the effectiveness on a trained fighter.
    I am not sure how it is done in Wing Chun, but just concentrating on tipping the chin up should help complete the throw.

  • @StimmedPenguin
    @StimmedPenguin ปีที่แล้ว

    I think this is the best way to train WC for practical development is to layer it on top of just enough solid kickboxing like this.
    One could incorporate/practice Wing Chun as an avenue to transition from an outside attack or counter to inside fighting and focus on using bridging to learn how to throw combos and defend from the forced high guard chi sau position created.
    It makes me think that a better way to practice chi sao would be to use like a thai style long guard bridged against another long guard and include movement and real punches rather than just a purely stationary sensitivity training drill.

    Random thought: would arm trapping be more effective if it involved manipulating your opponent's clothing? Similar to Judo gripping, perhaps that kind of controlling your opponent's limbs and balance would be more effective with bare hands against a clothed opponent than with gloves against a shirtless opponent in a boxing or kickboxing ring?

    • @FightCommentary
      @FightCommentary  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ll ask qi la La. Good question.

    • @assoverteakettle
      @assoverteakettle ปีที่แล้ว

      But a judo/BJJ gi has lapels and heavy material for gripping. It's harder with a t-shirt or rash guard.
      Also it's not necessarily necessary because trapping is really a general term. What is trapping? Is it intercepting and deflecting? Is it clearing someone's guard? Is it jamming, immobilizing or grabbing and controlling the limbs? It's really all of that.
      Yes for trapping which involves grabbing then material might help but most trapping techniques can be done and is often trained with a t-shirt.

  • @katze97
    @katze97 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bridging is how you get the trapping. No bridge means nothing to trap. That is why the second form 尋橋means finding bridge. QLL uses chum kiu techniques to connect in this video.
    In my WC school, we spare weekly. Sometimes we experience the law of Diminished return because we are used to each other bridging techniques. So we knew HT counter like in Kung Fu movies 🙄

    I'm a sceptic, but I thought there is nothing wrong with orthodox wing chun, except it is so hard to understand. Fake masters forget about a lot of factor like right position, movement, timing, and stamina. But if you are not a philosopical person, you still can fight, but never use chinese kung fu. Muay thai and jiujitsu is the choice. 🙏

    Just learn how old school boxers trap. Trapping is not exclusive to wing chun after all.

  • @jeffreypham5687

    He should do this with MMA gloves. The boxing gloves are just too big and unnatural for wing chun to work with.

  • @eddiemendez1983
    @eddiemendez1983 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If it’s not effective don’t waist your time on it. You shouldn’t have to make up excuses by making it more effective. If it’s sucks then it sucks. Heck MMA eats up wing chicken every time! If wing chunk was real and not just keeping up old outdated traditions. There would be at least 1! At least 1 UFC champ! They would probably be have there own league by now Ultimate Wing championship huh!?! There got Karate combat! So what’s up?!?

    Look, Qi La La is undoubtedly a better fighter than me. I think I might have him in the grappling department, but I've never fought mma or kickboxing. So I freely acknowledge he's better.
    But the better he gets the more he looks like a kickboxer. I see no chain punches. I see no trapping. He's in a kickboxing stance. Sure, there might be a few little things he ported over from his WC training. But if we are concerning ourselves primarily with fighting effectiveness we have to ask this question: How much better would he be if he had just trained kickboxing in the first place?
