Thanks for a very helpful video. I’ve had AUM for quite a while but am only just starting to dig in to the basics. If you have any other videos for this app, I would love to see them. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. Have a great day.
Thank you for this. I was hoping AUM could create a mix of BIAS FX2 and MIDI Guitar 2 (both on an iPad) with a guitar that has both analog and (13-pin) MIDI output. Unless I’m missing something, AUM is THE way to do that without having to use expensive and bulky pedal board options.
These are great tutes! I’m just discovering AUM and have a bunch of gear (but never enough time...) but will be getting busy now! To your question, I presume the “Toggle Play” means Play/Pause. Could be useful in performance. Thanks again man!
Hi, thanks for the video, I have just purchased the Novation launch key 25 mk3 and was looking for a tutorial, excellent stuff. Also I have just looked at a new au called MidiMixer which has been specifically designed to work with AUM, it allows you to control volumes etc and even automate them. This is useful for me because my launch key doesn’t have sliders. Thanks again for a great video and love your music.
Nice to meet ya bud, that damn algorithm sure makes or breaks doesn’t it?! Dang. I’m a drummer and mess around constantly with the iOS platform and I love it and snarf up all the apps and efx apps midi dork etc. 😋 I tend to make drum loops like sitting down to drums and playing for a while and then cutting up whatever I think it’s a steady and good and works for loops and you know progressions. Nice to meet you brother I guess this is in the new video but it’s certainly new to me so I’ll be here brother thanks
Very informative video. I’m coming to this video a bit late, but found it as I’m having a bit of trouble with hardware connections to my iPad. You’ve answered most of my questions, but one thing I’m not clear on; how are you getting audio out of the iPad in order to record the final output to a DAW for example. Is your audio interface connected to a computer? Thanks very much. I’ll be checking out your other videos.
Just a tiny correction: the voltage of USB power devices are always the same: 5 Volts. However, those USB plugs that serve your devices with higher power needs, have a higher current output (in Amperes).
say i recorded a ios audio unit played by either my ipad's virtual keyboard or an external keyboard hooked to my daw. it works like a charm, thanx to your tutorial. then, i want to be able to move say the ios audio unit's cutoff AND record those changes into my daw. i dont know how to do that. even if i say to my daw to overlap a recording (so that i dont wipe out the midi notes, as i do for any virtual instrument into my daw) it seems i cant record anything. is there a particular thing to change inside AUM for my daw to recognize and record those cutoff changes ? thx a lot and i hope my questions in understandable
nice video. just becoming familiar with AUM. Q: is there a way to "remove" old inactive hardware from AUM as I'm always switching things around to get most practical setup for different situations?
If you have any of the following gear, would you please be able to do a video showing how to connect them to and ipad pro (I have the 2020 12.9 inch model, with USB-C) and set them up to record into AUM, or Loopy Pro: Roland T8, korg kaossilator pro, korg volca bass, pocket operators. I appreciate any help with this, thanks.
Hi Logan Great great channel man ... So informative ....I’m subscribed. I have a question as a bass player who’s old school into amps ha ...I’m just getting into this synth world got myself a m audio oxygen pro .Xkey. And a Yamaha reface yc (red Hammond tonewheel version) here’s the problem.. How do I get the Yamaha reface into Aum ...in simple terms ...,? I’ve hooked everything else up (sort of) but I’m struggling big big big time on this one I want to incorporate the Yamaha reface into the whole set up so I can also record parts from the Yamaha reface yc Please can you help me ? Many thanks NP
Are you trying to run audio from the Yamaha or MIDI control? If you're running audio, you need to go out of the line out or headphone out through an interface (like a PreSonus or Focusrite).
What’s the difference between this video and the more recent one you uploaded about 9 months ago? 👀 Was there updates or something? lol I’ve watched endless videos on people using AUM or AudioBus or a combination of the 2 together to sync different iOS synth/drum machine apps and for chaining iOS FX apps together as well is integrating those with both Logic Pro on MacOS and hardware synths that are controlled & sequenced by in my case a Keystep Pro, and I got the connections down no problem, but I start getting lost not too far after that point each time 😅😂
The newer one uses the official User Guide as the basis to take you through the process, where this one is just an example of what I was doing at the time.
So helpful I’m an new to all this. My goal is to use all apps and software and IPad to create, mix and master a track. I can play but I use suggester app to create melodies. Once I export its either incomplete or weird sounding instrument how do I fix this.
Great video thanks so much for sharing. Would you happen to know the setting in AUM to send audio out via the headphone jack on the iPad? It looks like yours is coming out of your USB audio interface though...
If you have an audio interface plugged in, you can only send audio out of that. If not, tap the output button on the bottom of the channel in AUM, then hit "Hardware Output" and that will give you your available options.
Hi thanks a lot for great content! I have a Novation mini mk 3 and I connected to AUM without any issues. I wonder if it’s possible to control pad colors from AUM?
I don’t know if it’s possible or not. That’s not something I’ve gotten into. There are some great Facebook groups for iPad musicians, you might try asking there.
Hi Logan, great video! I have a question… I have a Yamaha portable grand dgx-660 and have built in speaker. I use them to hear myself when playing in church, but when I use Aum I hear my piano through the iPad and I don’t know how to make the sound come out through the speakers. Do you know how to make that? Thank you for the video!
Hi Logan. Great video!!! Have you ever try to use AUM as a pedalboard for your guitar? Have you know how to combine your physical pedalboard with the effects you may have in the Ipad apps? I’d love to learn how to do this but I’m not shure if latency and other technical stuff will work properly. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!!
I haven’t tried using guitar effects in a live setting, mostly because I’m really happy with my pedal board and I don’t have a Bluetooth foot pedal to use with AUM. If you have a newer iPad, you can lower the buffer to get rid of the latency. I’m just not sure the hassle of connecting everything is worth it.
Hi. I have a simple set up but it’s not working. I’m trying to hook up my microKORG xl+ to my iPad Pro which is running AUM. Right now I have a USB cable running from the keyboard to the iPad. When I create a new channel and hit the plus sign, I can click on hardware input but only the iPad mic shows up on the list. Shouldn’t my keyboard show up on that list? I also purchased a MIDI to USB-C cable which, when I click on the 3 lines in the upper right corner and then MIDI Ctl, the keyboard is listed. But you didn’t do that. You instead were able to see your hardware on the hardware input list. The MIDI adapter also allows me to play, but when I do there is a huge latency problem. Please help.
It looks like the microKorg does not send audio over the USB, it just sends/receives MIDI, which is why you can only see it as a MIDI controller. I’m not sure why you would be getting latency, usually MIDI is super fast, even reliable over Bluetooth. To be able to use the audio from your keyboard, you’ll need an audio interface (I use a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2) and run a patch came in.
How to you get sound out of AUM my iPhone has no audio port and the camera kit adapter is usb or lightning ⚡️ port ? Is there like a lightning port to rca or 3.5 mm headphone jack ?
There are three ways that I know of to get the audio out: 1) Lightning to 3.5mm adapter. Amazon has a bunch of cheap ones, and Apple sells "official" ones as well. 2) Use the camera kit to plug in a powered USB audio interface. I use a Tascam 4x4 with my ipad because it is powered. My ipad pro will power a Focusrite 2i2, but I don't think a phone will. From there, you can connect to speakers or headphones. 3) Connect your phone cable to a Mac computer (if you have one) and run audio through IDAM. This video can show you how to do that: th-cam.com/video/IXmP938brnc/w-d-xo.html
Hi Logan. Is there a way to control multiple iPads from a controller? For instance a controller routed in some way such as midifire or midimittr etc and then the controller is available for any device? Also, is there a way to have multiple iPads connected in with AUM or similar app running in one iPad. Then each iPad can dedicate to running a sonic app while the aum iPad can send midi control. Is this impossible....? Many thanks for your thoughts!
I’m pretty sure that all of that is possible, but I don’t have specific suggestions for that kind of setup. I think the challenge would be having one usb hub to multiple iPads. I have seen videos of people using both a phone and iPad or two iPads, so you might see if you have find one of those and check with them. Also, I find the Ipad Musician group on Facebook to be really helpful.
