    Thank you for this lesson. I eagerly await each lesson from you. I also am on level 15 on Duolingo and test out at an intermediate level, but I have a very long way to go. I am saving my pennies for your course because my long-term goal is 100 percent fluency in Spanish within two years. This is probably TMI, but I have had four back surgeries and I am in ill health, but when I learn Spanish it helps ease my pain and I envision myself in Spain on the beach one day. It really helps!

    When I'm in a better position to do so, I'll subscribe to the main course. Paul is excellent and very easy to listen to. His explanations are thorough and clear. I'm in my mid 60s and retention is becoming more and more difficult. I need to go over things time and again. Paul explains in terms that I understand and I find it easier to retain information! I do have a question:
    is it 'Hace calor'? or 'Hay calor'? I lived in Gibraltar many years ago, unfortunately I didn't learn Spanish at that time because I was working, and as Gibraltarians are bilingual English / Spanish, it was even more difficult... or rather it was easy to slip into English. But, I did pick some phrases up. In Gibraltar (Andaluz Spanish) we would use: Hace calor. BUT, perhaps Hay calor is used around the area of Mexico that Paul lives. PERO: Hay calor humano en mi familia. 'There is human warmth in my family'. BUT: Does the sentence refer to the jacket? Or the weather?

      Chris J You are right to question why this & not that, how else will you learn the correct of saying things, I did not feel your question was to challenge Paul's ability in any way. Students always ask & check things out with tutors.

    What is the different of calor and caliente?

    • @santiagoferres1402
      @santiagoferres1402 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Calor is used when talking about the weather (hoy hace mucho calor) and when talking about the energy of matter (si quemas madera, se genera calor). Caliente, u use it when u are describing de temperature of a thing (esta taza de té esta muy caliente).

  • @bayougal9279
    @bayougal9279 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can someone please answer my question? Should be very simple to most: if “to swim” is nadar, how is “going swimming” also nadar? Thanks in advance.

    • @bayougal9279
      @bayougal9279 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, I think I just answered myself- if you put “voy a” in front of nadar, that changes it to an action. In essence, you don’t have to have the -ing at the end. Correct?

    • @legaleagle46
      @legaleagle46 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty much. "Voy nadando" means "I keep on swimming." In other words, it means that you actually ARE swimming at the moment and have been for some time. If all you mean is "I am going swimming" (that is, you're discussing future plans), you simply say "voy a nadar."

    • @thekschannel8563
      @thekschannel8563 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well. In Cuba we don’t use lentes , we use ESPEJUELOS. Those are the ones we use when we need them to read. We say GAFAS when we need them for protecting from the sunlight and we use LENTES whe we are referring to contact lenses and ANTEOJOS It is the device used for nearing far away objects. Like the ones used by pirates. I know we all speak Spanish but each area has its peculiarities.

    • @larrynarvaez7545
      @larrynarvaez7545 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      “Anteojos” looks and sounds better than “anti ojos”. “Ante (before) ojos” is more logical than “anti (against) ojos” because we put them on in order to see and read better. 😊✌️✌️
