I strongly agree that the original movie is better. The sequel however is enjoyable the slightest bit could have been better/worst. As I was afraid would happen, the original plans to make it a Disney Plus and no Lin Manual Miranda involved would have some effect on the quality. I wanted the story to continue for nearly a decade. And still was worth the wait despite some minor flaws. When the Moana/Maui reunion got out of the way, the pacing picked up a little.

This is a no brainer. The original felt like a movie, the sequel felt like one of the direct to dvd sequels where it was three episodes of a tv show trying to pass itself off as a movie.
Moana 2 deserves credit for not falling into the traps that the other theatrical Disney sequels fell into. It didn’t flanderize and ruin the characters the way Ralph Breaks The Internet did. And it didn’t try too hard to expand the lore and add pointless new meanings to what the first film established like Frozen 2 did.
I loved Tangled the series. I would've loved a Moana series done with the same care and spirit just as much. I really wish they'd left Moana 2 as a series.
After Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, I had that same mindset. That way we could have easily found an MVP amongst the new characters. My MVP of the Tangled new characters was Lance. Unpopular opinion

The Rescuers Down Under isn’t just the first Disney Sequel for an animated classic from the 1970’s but it’s not that mentioned, even by WatchMojo standards. It’s the first Disney Sequel to hit theaters since 1990 In 2018, Ralph Breaks The Internet became the first Disney Sequel to achieve an award for Best Animated Feature. In 2019, Disney went ALL OUT for Frozen II of its storytelling, songs and animation. As of 2024, I say Moana 2 is Disney’s Best of this year! It even made a lot of money in the box office. The animation is flawless and outstanding and Dwayne Johnson as the voice of Maui is amazing!
Just want to clarify something this video got wrong! While Vancouver was in charge of the tv show, once it became a movie, Burbank jumped in. This movie would NOT have been completed if Vancouver did it on their own. It was a team effort with both studios. ❤
Not only that Moana is my 3rd favorite Disney Princess movie, it made me fall in love with Lin-Manuel Miranda and he’s amazing! His performance in Hamilton is phenomenal, his voice work in Vivo is a whole lot of fun and his music in Moana, Encanto, and Moana 2 is magical! Can’t wait for Mufasa

In Moana 2 she knows who she is, there's zero growth, they introduce some new characters for the sake introducing new characters, Maui got capture by some evil vampire/bat woman, she lets Maui and Moana go and disappears for the whole movie until the midcredit scene, lightning god dohicky Maui pulls up island, oh look there's others out there... ummm was this a thing? Yeah it was because this movie said it was. And music was very lackluster.

The first one, no question. The second wasn't bad, but it was weak and disappointing, feeling like one of those straight to VHS/DVD sequels from the 2000s.
I've liked Moana 2, the animation is amazing and I like that Moana is still a strong and flawed character. My only small complaint is that I was expecting Matangi to be more than just a random helper. I was sure she would reveal to be some kind of villainess and not to disappear just right after having helped Moana. Also, the song "What could be better than this" reminds me to the vibes of "The family Madrigal". Side note, but SPOILERS ALERT: I still can't believe I've dreamt two scenes of this movie (Moana in the tent for the ceremony, a lightning striking from above and then her d3ath) BEFORE said movie did even exist. The shock when I saw those scenes in the movie was really high 🤣(I am not joking and I DON'T work for Disney).
I thought the animation was a draw?! That means no points, but it was given to Moana?! I did like the Polynesian culturally driven story. I think it would have been best to give Matongi more of a character arch. She was kind of thrown away. Instead of 3 extra characters, maybe one or two?The Maui fanboi is funny but knowledgeable and would have explained more of Matongi's back story or her relationship to the weather deity to Moana. Mark Manchina and Van Ta (?) were great. I'm not sure how I feel about the new songs. Miranda is missed, though. I think Moana's character arch is how to stay true oneself, and she didn't get challenged to take a shortcut or how to take advantage of a situation. Which would be counter to her previous character arch, but happens in real life. Disney may have considered that un-Disney to show her in such ways.

Why do people keep saying that Moana 2 looks like a TV series? I didn't feel that way. On the contrary, TV series are boring, poorly developed and poorly drawn .... Moana 2 felt like a real sequel to me, like Frozen 2: No one said it was a dvd sequel ... Duh!
That’s because it literally was supposed to be a TV series until suddenly being turned into a movie this year. You can feel that episodic format. The beginning of the film to Moana and her crew is pretty much episode one, episode two is them meeting the Kakamora to Maui giving Moana motivation, and the final episode is them fighting the storm god and then the conclusion. Also, shows are poorly drawn?! Have you ever watched Arcane or The Owl House? Plus, this movie was already animated as a show as like I mentioned, the show was turned into a movie very last minute, so are you gonna say the movie is poorly animated?

DUH!!!!! Of course *Moana* (the First Film I mean) wins by a landslide. Looks like it's Sequel, *Moana 2* didn't get much Respect and Appreciation for us Disney Fans. I kinda like Nalo and Matangi in the Sequel Film.

I love the sequel, but I have to give the original a cheeho.
The first one, no question. The second wasn't bad, but it was weak and disappointing, feeling like one of those straight to VHS/DVD sequels from the 2000s.
At least it’s better than most of those sequels back then. I wasn’t crazy about the trend.

I've liked Moana 2, the animation is amazing and I like that Moana is still a strong and flawed character. My only small complaint is that I was expecting Matangi to be more than just a random helper. I was sure she would reveal to be some kind of villainess and not to disappear just right after having helped Moana. Also, the song "What could be better than this" reminds me to the vibes of "The family Madrigal". Side note, but SPOILERS ALERT: I still can't believe I've dreamt two scenes of this movie (Moana in the tent for the ceremony, a lightning striking from above and then her d3ath) BEFORE said movie did even exist. The shock when I saw those scenes in the movie was really high 🤣(I am not joking and I DON'T work for Disney).

I did like the Polynesian culturally driven story. I think it would have been best to give Matongi more of a character arch. She was kind of thrown away. Instead of 3 extra characters, maybe one or two?The Maui fanboi is funny but knowledgeable and would have explained more of Matongi's back story or her relationship to the weather deity to Moana.
Mark Manchina and Van Ta (?) were great. I'm not sure how I feel about the new songs. Miranda is missed, though.
I think Moana's character arch is how to stay true oneself, and she didn't get challenged to take a shortcut or how to take advantage of a situation. Which would be counter to her previous character arch, but happens in real life. Disney may have considered that un-Disney to show her in such ways.
I liked Moana 2 I didn't see much fault with it and as a person who grew up with the straight to video sequels this is a much better improvement.

Why do people keep saying that Moana 2 looks like a TV series? I didn't feel that way. On the contrary, TV series are boring, poorly developed and poorly drawn .... Moana 2 felt like a real sequel to me, like Frozen 2: No one said it was a dvd sequel ... Duh!

That’s because it literally was supposed to be a TV series until suddenly being turned into a movie this year. You can feel that episodic format. The beginning of the film to Moana and her crew is pretty much episode one, episode two is them meeting the Kakamora to Maui giving Moana motivation, and the final episode is them fighting the storm god and then the conclusion. Also, shows are poorly drawn?! Have you ever watched Arcane or The Owl House? Plus, this movie was already animated as a show as like I mentioned, the show was turned into a movie very last minute, so are you gonna say the movie is poorly animated?
