    Sing us a verse of this while sowing next time. I reckon that you both can sing.
    🎵 🎵Inch by inch, row by row
    Please bless these seeds I sow
    Please keep them safe below
    'Til the rain comes tumbling down🎵🎵
    Yea, I think that if we all are honest we have said, in the Fall of a poor return, “Never again”!! Then Spring comes and off we go again.
    Inch by inch row . . . .

      @OzziesOddities  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked up the song. Pretty tune! I'll see what I can do.
      And yes I've been saying "never again" for quite a few years. But deep down it's really a joy.

    What a great video. This takes me back, seeing the huge garden like my grandparents had a long time ago. My dad always talked lovingly about the Mpls Moline on the farm where he grew up.

    • @OzziesOddities
      @OzziesOddities  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for taking the time to watch it Lee. Your dad was right Molines are the kind of tractors you really grow fond of. Course they give you some grief here and there but they all do. I guess besides being how we eat, gardening is kinda a way to keep a relationship with nature. Kinda like fishing!

    • @TowardNature
      @TowardNature ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ozzie's Oddities I also remember the crank just about taking my dad's shoulder off when his little Alice Chalmers tractor fired off. You're so right about connecting with nature.

    • @OzziesOddities
      @OzziesOddities  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TowardNature yeah that's no joke. If the timing gets a little off on these engines and tractors they can be extra dangerous to crank.

    I suspect this year will be the 12 annual last planting with the way prices have really ramped up in the past year. We certainly are preparing to do our biggest garden to date. Plenty of peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes and now corn thanks to your expertise on a great method of getting good pollination.

    • @OzziesOddities
      @OzziesOddities  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I guess we'll do it again. We love it, it's our way of life, but it's really getting tiring at our age. But every year we're able is a good thing. Happy to hear we could pass something along that will help with your corn crop. Once I started doing it that way it was night and day. And it was a lot easier to keep up with a spread out harvest.

    • @OzziesOddities
      @OzziesOddities  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha. Yes I have tried the little seeders that you push. I found the ground has to be pretty well worked up for those to really work their best. I'm sure it would make more sense. But I only plant 2, 25 foot rows of sweetcorn at a time anymore so it goes quick enough by hand. Keeps me young right?

    I take it u dont have sweet corn plates for your JD planter. Grandad had one just like yours

    • @OzziesOddities
      @OzziesOddities  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your grandfather had on old JD 2 row huh? Different times from what they're farming with now right? I don't have the sweetcorn plates for it. I'll tell ya, around here I only like to plant maybe 100 feet or less of sweet corn per day. Back in the 90s we were planting a lot of sweet corn and selling it and there were two things we were always battling. One was the racoons and all the wildlife who thought our field was their food plot. The other was all the corn coming ripe at approximately the same time. So I guess that's why we're in the habit of not planting too much corn at once, so we wouldn't really have the need for a planter.

      Thanks Danny, for finding us and for being such a kind supporter of what we're doing. I guess we kinda take our chances. The way I figure is the folks most likely to start stealing might not be focused on garden produce. Besides if anyone came to us in need, heck we'd pick the veggies for them.

      As for my favorite weed, Ragweed. My husband and I walked corn and beans for ragweed during the "coolest hours" of a hot summer's day. Made common garden weeds gentle in comparison. But come harvest we were mighty glad for fields with fewer weeds and less to wrangle with the next growing season.

I won't deign to tell the family what to do with their own videos, however, as I find that's just rude. They're so full of knowledge that I can tolerate a bit of royalty-free music.

    i love fresh corn its my favorite thing to grow i love it on the cob or cut off & fried..but it is so hard to grow it n small town ky cant seam to keep the deer ,coons & coyotes out of it & the Black Birds 8 rows 100ft long ea and we might get 12-24 ears total..& its just so good i still try..lol. we have electric fence around it with (10,000v) but they still do a number on it ! & as any one who has ever raised a garden to feed his family darn well knows its a truck load of work to raise a Garden of about any size but the bigger the garden the more hard work it is..i have one at my house probably 125ft X 75ft an another at the farm that's probably 200ft X 100ft give or take & its a ton of work for 2 people & i dont think one person could do it especially when ya work a regular job to its just about to much.. But it can be done but yo will work no doubt about it..lol. ! but now ya about got to try because ya darn well just cant go to the store n get it no more & i imagine its just goin to get worse im afraid & so many folks are going to get a very rude awakening i think !

      Wow I thought we had it bad with wildlife, but that's sounds like a crazy hard challenge. That is a lot of gardening you're doing, just two people. You must be a little younger than us, but even so that's very impressive. I worry there might be some rude awakenings for all of us, but I also hope we all can learn from what's going on and it might make some of the traditions like garden a little more valuable to us all.
