I have watched The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer...and I can tell you that Buffy is the superior show. Those other shows are good in their own way, but BTVS is definitely on a different level. Btw, you also have to bear in mind that BTVS was a mid-season replacement for another show that was canceled on the TV network, so their very first season of 12 episodes (13 eps if you divide the pilot episode into 2) was severely underfunded, so the first season of the show did not have much of a special effects budget. What made the show a break-out hit in its first UNDER-FUNDED season was the top-notch writing, the dialogue, and the acting. But from the 2nd season onwards is where it really begins to reach legendary status. And without giving away any spoilers whatsoever, the first season is more so a monster-of-the-week episodic format...but then from the 2nd season, it more so becomes a serialized format with an overriding theme for each season.
Amazingly enough, this is probably one of the best shows out there. It's first season was made in 1997, so the special effects are dated and fairly minimal compared to today, because they were so expensive. Still, the show is groundbreaking in universe and character generation. There's lots of foreshadowing, sometimes seasons in advance. It may seem fairly comedic, but it can actually bring a tear to even some of the most hardened people. It is very popular amongst reactors. Many have noticed that this show is actually the precursor to shows like Vakpire Diarires, Supernatural, and Twighlight amongst others. Each of whom have borrowed from or sometimes outright stole elements of Buffy. Some things to keep in mind. Most Buffy fans love season 1, but acknowledge it's flaws. Buffy came into existence to replace the second half of a show that was cancelled part way through a season. The network execs just wanted to fill time and didn't expect the show to take off. Thus, the first season was rushed and on a tight budget. Still, each episode has elements that prove quite important to the rest of the show. Also, you've only seen half of the pilot. In the original airing, 1x01 and 1x02 were one episode. As always, I usually recommend any new reactor to Buffy to keep a well stocked box of tissues close by at all times. You may not need it right away, but if you continue with Buffy, you will need it. Also, Buffy fans are aplenty, we all love the show quite a bit many of us have watched it many times. We are fun and love interacting and commenting quite a bit. We also are pretty good and are more than happy to fill in gaps. The show has a lot going on, usually too much for a first time watch to catch everything. We usually respect a reactor well enough to let them figure most things out on their own, but will help out if you miss something crucial to understanding future episodes. Have fun.

The Buffy fandom is huge and very devoted (not to mention prone to spoilers). If you watch every single episode on a regular timetable, they'll come out of the woodwork--a lot of the reactors I follow have built pretty good-sized audience based solely on the Buffyverse. Also, you commented that American teenagers don't talk like Buffy's students--and that's true. But you're assuming the dialogue is meant to accurately reflect how teenagers speak, and it isn't. The show's dialogue has been studied by linguists because of its originality and the way it functions. There are a lot of things that Buffy did that were completely new to TV. If you're a fan of the Vampire Diaries, strap in--you'll likely adore Buffy once it finds its footing. When I watched TVD, I was frequently amused by how much they stole from Buffy.
The first season of Buffy is good with some forgettable episodes. Seasons 2 and 3 are epic TV history. You are juggling a lot of shows but reacting to Buffy comes with a legion of followers. The director also did a 1/2 season show called Firefly which has its own cult following.
@@CassandrashadowcassMorrison please stop mentioning the A show, as if by some miracle they don’t know of it, it’s a HUGE spoiler. i don’t understand why posters love to post massive spoilers? if you have to reference it, just say “the Buffy spinoff”.
This show is amazing. The first season isn't, but once they get a handle on the characters. And the budget goes up. That's when it's great. Also you'll see a lot of young actors that went on to have big careers in TV and movies.
I was like 12 when this show was first aired on TV here... It's the reason I have a big thing for shows involving anything supernatural and vampires in particular. I loved Buffy, I loved Angel and I still, after nearly 25 years, have this little world built in my head involving the characters and an few OCs originated from those shows. I think a rewatch is coming on because you just reminded me of just how much I loved this show. So thanks for that ;)
To be honest the 1st series is rough. Some episodes are more important than others, but luckily the 1st series is pretty short. 2nd Series to Series 7 is why BTVS is beloved. It only gets better. Stick with it. You won't be sorry or feel like you're wasting your time
Just letting you know the first season was a midseason replacement. So it's half the length of a regular season. And the budget is basically nothing. But if you do get to season 2 the budget and the story really does amp up. I love season 1 more than a lot of people because I don't mind smaller budget. But honestly the aesthetic isn't for everyone.
It is a really fun shiw. They get a little campy from time to time but it is fun. And the mysterious gorgeous man in black will be around in future episodes.
Girl, I could tell you're super interested just by the way you were quietly watching and paying attention to the dialogue and what was happening around these characters. I remember back in school how everyone rolled their eyes whenever I mentioned if they had seen Buffy. Just the name alone put them off. Same went with the Emmy Awards. No one gave this show a chance. Now look at it. More and more people are tuning in and they are forever changed because of it. Ellie, I just know this show is gonna make you feel something. You're gonna go through every emotion possible. Some things you won't see coming. Much like life, it's very unexpected. I'll tell you that this show has underlying meanings/messages through the monsters and all things that go bump in the night. More importantly, you'll see the journey of this young girl grow into adulthood. I'll also add that this show was even taught at some universities because of certain themes that this show touches on. It was called the Buffy Studies aka Buffyology. The themes discussed are in: psychology, women's studies, theology, sociology and philosophy. The show continues to be discussed but I'm not sure if they are still teaching it.
this ! it's still the piece of media that has the most papers written about it (slate made an article called "Which Pop Culture Property Do Academics Study the Most?" about that)
Best show of all time. I agree with this. I took one of these classes and went to a conference at my school. The had a lot of different speakers with a wide range of topics.
@@jeremywhite6121 Wow Jeremy. That must've been the best conference EVER. Did you take down some notes? I would of taken a bunch of them lol. That or find a way to record it, if it was allowed. Man. That's so cool. Do you know if they still teach these courses?
Buffy basically started Joss Whedon's rise to fame. Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse. All really great shows worth looking into! Buffy and Angel were the corner stone that lead to more "scooby-doo" type shows like Charmed and Supernatural. Also another really great show that has a similar feel to Buffy, but doesn't do the supernatural stuff is Veronica Mars, where Kristen Bell is the lead and is basically a high school detective trying to solve her best friend's murder
Veronica Mars is great. Also, if you all love that show, the same production team made iZombie. It shares a number of elements and style from Veronica Mars.
@@haddow777 Oh really? Hmmm might have to give that one another shot. I did hear good things about it, and enjoyed the first episode; but I was so burnt out on zombie content at the time iZombie was airing that I passed it up
Without a doubt one of the best shows ever made, though it only really hits it's stride around midway season 2. Still, until then it's not like it's bad, just cheesy fun
The whole "Romantic" vampire as we know it got it's slow start with Anne Rice's book Interview with a Vampire way back in 1976 (followed by a bunch of sequel books), but didn't really get going til they made a movie out of it with Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Kristen Dunst in 1991. Then Buffy gave it another big push, til finally Twilight made people forget that vampires were quite often monsters and villains in pop culture before Twilight. I should also mention the Lost Boys (1987) probably helped the romantic vampire along a bit between the Interview with a Vampire book and movie. All that said, Bram Stoker's Dracula way back in 1897 had a lot of those romantic characteristics, they just got overshadowed by the horror side of the tale, which may have been partly due to the times... whereas the romantic side may have been made more prevalent (or just noticed more) if Dracula was written today... maybe, who knows?
PS I highly recommend the rest of the show. From watching other reactor, it seems to hold up and (though it may be til the second season when the show really starts to sort itself out and just gets better from there) it will, almost certainly, eventually suck you in and become a favourite for you as well.
I watch like 4 Buffy reactors right now, always welcome another one I like different perspectives, it's one of the greatest shows of all time, a lot of the shows you talked about, would have never been made with out Buffy, but Buffy didn't walk so they can run Buffy drove a truck through every thing and still beats all those shows series wise!
Buffy "The Vampire Slayer" was one of the best shows I have ever watched, just like you I am a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries and at first, this genre of vampires was bugging me but with the development of the series and the plot, you will learn to like them. And Buffy is kinda amazing. I think this was the show that served as a platform for all the vampire shows we have today, including The Vampire Diaries, Paul Wesley inspired himself in the Angel character to bring Stefan Salvatore to life, they have lots of smiliarities. Nice video. You gain one more subscriber. :)
"Should I watch the second one?" You should watch the entire show! It's so good! Also, some of the acting and dialogue might feel forced in the pilot, but it doesn't stay that way, and the effects and fight choreography get so much better, so if that's what's holding you back, just be a little patient ;)
You should definitely watch part 2. It continues the story from the moment this part ended. Season 1 is fine. If you are doing reactions, I think the 2 part pilot, "Angel", and "Prophecy Girl" (finale) are probably most important.
Please, please continue. It gets so much better 💕 Your channel will grow a lot and you can make money on Patreon with full length reactions! There are tons of Buffy fans!
BtVS is one of hte most influential TV shows made in the last 25 years. I basically wrote the ground rules for most of this sort of sci-fi fantasy TV that came after it. The first season take a bit of time to work out what tone it's aiming for, but gets better in it's second half - but the show really starts to fly by season two, and regardless of what elements feel cheesy and dated now, it's absolutely work sticking with. I think it's safe to say that most people who aren't immediately put off by the basic premise soon fall completely in love with the show. Hope you do too.
first season is a bit janky in places, but most shows are in season 1 before they get picked up and budgets increased. Its really worth a full watch through though, the character development is amazing in this show.
BTVS - horror, humour and heartche mixed into an irresistible cocktail with fantastic scripts, brilliant characterisation and excellent acting. As others have said the first season, whilst enjoyable in its own right, only hints at the wonderful episodes and plots to follow in future seasons. It's absolutely addictive!
Buffy is everything, personally I wouldn't write off shows because they're 'old' it might not be in a carbon copy of the world we live in now in 2022 but the elements of friendship, loss, love & hard times remain the same. The first season was good but you can see they were finding their feet & they toned down the sarcasm by the later seasons. It was brilliantly written & the actors are so believable even with some of the most unbelievable story lines. It juggled real life woes with the supernatural. Buffy is so relateable. I watched the show when I was 5 when it came out & grew up immersed in Buffy & Angel.
Season 1 is pretty good but after that the show takes off like a rocket. Buffy is one of the all-time best shows. You will absolutely love it if you stick with it until season 2.
Before there was “True Blood” and “Vampire Diaries”There was Sarah Michelle Gellar & “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” the originator or forerunner of all these Vampire shows glamorizing the Undead!❤😊😊
Buffy is a childhood classic and iconic. I know it is bad...but yet it is so good. ...Nice to see it come back, you can see how the style has changed from then and now, when you watch TV serieses.
Best show EVER! I watched it when it first aired and am currently on another rewatch, not sure how many times I have watched this show... but that's how good it is!
There are some terrible episodes, especially in the first season, but it does get good. The downside of getting invested is that there are a LOT of gut-punches in this show.
"When did they start glorifying and beautifying vampires?" Bram Stoker, who popularized the vampire creature, made Count Dracula "darkly alluring". Then during the 1970's, Hammer Films put out vampire movies that had some "sexplotation" in them to get in the views. But all these vampires were evil, vicious monsters who's inner evil showed on the outside when they were hunting prey, or feeding. It wasn't until Ayn Rice decided to equate vampires with people who have addictions, and wrote "Interview with a Vampire", that vampires changed from monsters to poor misunderstood people. You should go look up the old silent film called "Nosferatu" to see what vampires are "suppose" to be like.
I hope you continue this show, but if you can only decide some time to it, I think random episodes would be fun to see. The show develops a lot, and it would be awesome to have someone familiar with Vampire Diaries watching it.
yeah, definitely watch some more of it. The first season starts out a little rough, but it gets a lot better. Considering your love of supernatural things and the accent, I have to ask ... have you ever seen Doctor Who? If not, that might be a fun pilot for you to try. The 2005 show (Nu Who), not the 1963 pilot.
Buffy would be well worth watching including it's spin-off. I grew up with the show and it has influenced my love for Supernatural shows. The show is a classic in television history and is still very loved until this very day.
As others have said, if you like the pilot, you'll *love* the show. It takes a while to really find itself - Joss Whedon himself said that it was only around the middle of series 2 that he realised what the show *could* be and I personally don't think it truly gets there until series 3 (although there's plenty of good stuff in series 1 & 2). But, man, does it ever reach its potential. Put it this way - a *lot* of genre shows to this day are copying Buffy. It was absolutely revolutionary at the time and, judging by other reaction channels, it still has the power to captivate people, and to make them laugh and cry. And, yes, you should react to it. It's a hell of a journey and it's always interesting to watch someone go through it.
The first season of 12 episodes has great snappy dialogue and great supernatural metaphors for high school life. Although the real drama starts kicking in from season 2 onwards, it is always balanced by the sarcastic humour. I hope you will watch some more Buffy; It was unlike anything else on network tv at the time.
This is a life changing show...it changed me and i'm a bloody bloke for crying out loud.....Season 1 one has a charm to it,it's low budget due to the fact that it was a mid season replacement for another show that got cancelled hence why there are only 12 episodes...but with every season the budget goes up,the storylines and writing goes up,the entire production value goes up and the4 character growth we see is second to none....I'm being honest here shows like Supernatural,Vampire Diaries,Grimm,Lost Girl amongst others all owe a huge debt of gratitude to Buffy and none of those shows even come close

@@TheNoybusiness true, in VD almost no one has any change in there character when comparing the first and last episodes.
I first watched Buffy when I was really young and since then I’ve rewatched it so many times. It’s truly my all time favorite tv show.
This is one of the best shows of all time. I hope you keep watching!!
Definitely keep going. This Is the best show ever written
The first season of Buffy is good with some forgettable episodes. Seasons 2 and 3 are epic TV history. You are juggling a lot of shows but reacting to Buffy comes with a legion of followers. The director also did a 1/2 season show called Firefly which has its own cult following.
The director and creator of both shows (and of the Buffy spin-off "Angel" is best left in the bottom of the bog where he belongs.)
No such thing as a forgettable Buffy episode :P
@@CassandrashadowcassMorrison please stop mentioning the A show, as if by some miracle they don’t know of it, it’s a HUGE spoiler. i don’t understand why posters love to post massive spoilers? if you have to reference it, just say “the Buffy spinoff”.
Omg yessss this show is amazing!!!!!!
It literally is one of the top 5 series ever, cannot judge it on the first season.
Buffy released when I was 10 yrs old. Watched it every Sat night as part of my Sat night line up. It is a great show.
This show is amazing. The first season isn't, but once they get a handle on the characters. And the budget goes up. That's when it's great. Also you'll see a lot of young actors that went on to have big careers in TV and movies.
The character first appeared in a theatrical MOVIE of the same name.
@@CassandrashadowcassMorrison yeah but that movie is terrible. So I try to forget that lol
Awesome I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer this is one of my favorite shows ever, it's so great your reacting to this 🙌🔥
If you chose to stay with Buffy you will gain a lot of subscribers, hope you enjoy the show
I was like 12 when this show was first aired on TV here...
So thanks for that ;)
Are you serious 😧😮,you have to do the full reactions of season 1 to 7 on this channel 😍❤️maybe not full episode reactions but full series reactions
To be honest the 1st series is rough. Some episodes are more important than others, but luckily the 1st series is pretty short. 2nd Series to Series 7 is why BTVS is beloved. It only gets better. Stick with it. You won't be sorry or feel like you're wasting your time
You have no idea what you are getting yourself into. There is a reason why this show is consistently ranked as one of the greatest shows of all time.
Pretty spectacular acting in this show. I mean, there are a few bad eggs here and there, but the main cast are absolutely fantastic!
the show gets worse before it gets better, but once it really gets going, this is the greatest show ever made.
Best show ever! Hope you keep watching!:)
Also another really great show that has a similar feel to Buffy, but doesn't do the supernatural stuff is Veronica Mars, where Kristen Bell is the lead and is basically a high school detective trying to solve her best friend's murder
veronica mars is a great series!
I love Veronica Mars.
Veronica Mars is great. Also, if you all love that show, the same production team made iZombie. It shares a number of elements and style from Veronica Mars.
@@haddow777 i actually wanted to watch izombie when it cirst came out i just never got around to it
@@haddow777 Oh really? Hmmm might have to give that one another shot. I did hear good things about it, and enjoyed the first episode; but I was so burnt out on zombie content at the time iZombie was airing that I passed it up
My fav show of all time! The first season is from 1997 so it's very 90s lol. But it's awesome
The fact you compared this series to Vampire Diaries is the reason I am never watching this channel again.
Your loss
I watch like 4 Buffy reactors right now, always welcome another one I like different perspectives, it's one of the greatest shows of all time, a lot of the shows you talked about, would have never been made with out Buffy, but Buffy didn't walk so they can run Buffy drove a truck through every thing and still beats all those shows series wise!
It's basically the best tv show from start to finish ever made.
Buffy is one of the best shows i have ever watched. Season 1 is ok but the show gets better in season 2.
first season is a bit janky in places, but most shows are in season 1 before they get picked up and budgets increased. Its really worth a full watch through though, the character development is amazing in this show.
Its gets better as u get through the seasons
This is a great show, the comedy and writing are top tier you should consider reacting to it
I LOVE Buffy! Definitely one of my favorites. This makes me want to re-watch it.
Well Buffy should always be watched on Tuesday, as is tradition
If you know, you know.
"I wasn't sure I was gonna like it. It is pretty old." Ouch right in the feels.
6:24 I keep expecting her to say ''This one time at Band camp'' lol
Welcome to the Buffyverse, prepare for your hits to increase and your subscribers to rocket!
If you can make it past the lackluster 13 episode S1 (though there are some good episodes) you’ll find what is, IMO, a top 10 all time drama.
My brain just can't understand how someone hasn't seen buffy before 😭😭 I feel personally attacked 🤣
There are some terrible episodes, especially in the first season, but it does get good. The downside of getting invested is that there are a LOT of gut-punches in this show.
Buffy is one of the best shows ever made.
Buffy is a show about a superhero growing up and all the good and bad that life throws at you.
All here for Buffy and Lucifer, two of my favs! Please do all the episodes.
the show is very nostalgic very entertaining.
Welcome to the Buffyverse! I do recommend avoided the so-called remaster (a.k.a the 16:9 ratio edit) because it ruins the vibe of the series.
I'm a big fan of classic who. The first 1963 episode is something everyone should experience.
This is my favorite show to watch reactions of. Just saying.
I kept waiting for Willow to say "This one time at band camp..."
Well said.
This is a life changing show...it changed me and i'm a bloody bloke for crying out loud.....Season 1 one has a charm to it,it's low budget due to the fact that it was a mid season replacement for another show that got cancelled hence why there are only 12 episodes...but with every season the budget goes up,the storylines and writing goes up,the entire production value goes up and the4 character growth we see is second to none....I'm being honest here shows like Supernatural,Vampire Diaries,Grimm,Lost Girl amongst others all owe a huge debt of gratitude to Buffy and none of those shows even come close
thanks for sharing,,,, this is hilarious, hanks for bring back my childhood.
No Patreon? Highly recommend a Patreon. :) People will pay for unedited full reactions to this series, it's full of many very memorable twists and turns and watching someone else experience those for the first time is a joy for us veteran types.
Perhaps the most influential TV show of the last 30 years.
Many people noticed the Scooby Doo vibes. From around season 2 (I think) they occasionally called themselves the Scooby Gang/the Scoobies.
I love this show! I still watch it from time to time! It really starts to hit it’s stride in the second season and just gets better from there! Even if you don’t do it for TH-cam (which I’d love) I recommend you watch it for yourself.
omg girl yes you should do unedited reactions on patreon
1.40….HOLY Crap! Is that Danny messer from CSI: NY?! 🤯😅😂
what app do you use to watch all these shows
S2 is really when it super takes off, let's go!
This is an all time great show and the 2nd and 3rd seasons are the best imo
This is definitely how Vampires ate suppose to be. Evil demons that "transform" when they vamp out. Their vamp faces remind me of The Lost Boys. This show is Amazing. Gets much better every season. Tough out season 1 lol
Please react to it! It’s my favorite show by far. As others have said, season 2 is really where it kicks off. But season 1 has that 90s charm :) Also season 1 only has 12 episodes because it was a mid-season replacement for another show.
This is my favorite show and season 5 is my favorite . Many Buffy reactor put full length reactions on Patreon for $5-$10 a month. Its behind a paywall so copyright dings aren’t a worry. (For Buffy) I guess OF would work as well.
"wtf is a Sucubi?'
A female demon who is supposed to entice men into sexual encounters, to barter for their souls.
Incubi is the male version, but they are both pluralized.
Sucubus/Incubus - singual.
FFS I am a nerd between the tv shows, and movies I watch, and the Latin I've learned. I now realize why I am single. Nerds do not equal sexy.
First season is hit or miss, gets brilliant from season 2 on....
Good reaction and if I could suggest a show to watch, Smallville is awesome and I think may be right up your alley.
