real cool to see your interested in giving the ultra series a look. For a bit of context, shin ultraman is essentially a reimagining of the original 1966 ultraman, its not really required to have seen the original series to get the movie, but there are a lot of things in it that you'll appreciate more if have have, but again its not required. Its one of the rare products in that ultra franchise that isnt connected to the wider franchise, so you can watch it independantly and enjoy.
As that statement would imply, the ultraman franchise is super interconnected. Anything from plot points, kaiju or characters from over 50 years ago can and do just randomly show up in another ultra series; past characters storylines continue in newer shows; episodes of one show can be direct sequels to ones from a previous season; but in saying that, each individual season does have its own story to follow throughout as well, theres always a good balance of original plots and reprises of older ones throughout a show (the enourmus more recent crossover miniseries' that pull characters and plots from all over the franchise together not withstanding). Its very much a "pretty much everything is canon" type franchise, shows, movies, mangas, novels, audio dramas and stage plays all can be considered canon to the overall storyline. In an ideal world, you would definately get the most out of everything and have a really rewarding time if you were to watch everything in order right from the start, but since thats a lot to ask, its more then reasonable to start from anywhere (unless the show is a direct sequel to the previous or is that massive crossover series mentioned before). Fun Fact: The creator of Ultraman was the special effect director for the original Godzilla movie. Even fact the original pitch for the 1st Ultra season "Ultra Q" was what if we had a weekly new Kaiju story on TV in the style of Twilight Zone? The popularity of Ultraman revitalized Tokusatsu starting the "henshin (morphin) boom" Era of the 70s which lead to the mega hits Kamen Rider in 1971 and Super Sentai (Power Rangers) in 1975.

This'll be a bit of a long comment lol
A quick correction with the title and video: while Toho is involved with the Shin Ultraman movie, the franchise as a whole was created by and is owned by Tsuburaya Productions.
Now, on the topic of eras of Ultraman, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa are legit eras of Japan, not something made up for Godzilla; I was confused for awhile, too. Every Japanese work created in the past 93 years will fall into one of these three eras.
As you say you enjoy the Heisei Godzilla films (I presume the 90s ones), I'd recommend you try out Ultraman Tiga, Dyna, and Gaia. A huge amount of Ultraman is available to stream in the US through TH-cam, TokuSHOUTsu, and Tubi.

if you ask what is ultraman i prefer you look for what is tokusatsu is? because if tokusatsu of japan don't exist your power ranger not exist too
