      I don't know who would say those ugly things, and ask personal questions about jobs but that is terrible! Anyone should know you cant share every single thing about your lives. I enjoy watching you guys you make me smile and I need that. Your children are so well behaved and sweet, just keep doing what you do and the nosey people just ignore them. Hope you get more than the asking price for your home because of all the work you have put in.

    I don’t see how anyone could leave a negative comment. You two are hard working people and part of homesteading is to be self sufficient and not dependent upon something like a 9-5. Such kindness and patience about those intrusive questions! I was brought up with knowing it was never anybodies business how much money you have, or where it comes from. That was one of the most private parts of someone's life. Unbelievable to me that so many people think it is their business when it is just plain rude beyond curiosity.
    You handle all that with grace and that is very admirable.

      Sherri B Sir I believe it still is considered not NICE to ask someone about money and how much they make. if someone asks me ( rarely but it happens) I try to avoid the answer politely if the person doesn’t understand I’ll tell I don’t want to talk about it. if they’re not nice I’m not going to be either. I have close friends for 15 or 20 years and I still don’t know how much they earn. not my business. if they need help that’s another thing. but asking about people’s earnings still not nice in today’s Europe. don’t know about US.

    Hey! Garage cleaning is a big accomplishment! I hope you find a place that becomes your "perfect" place!

  • @GraeMatterz
    @GraeMatterz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    You have such a great work ethic, as shown by your videos. Don't let the downers get to you. They are talking out of petulance and more likely than not, some jealousy about what you have accomplished in the short time you've been there, showing them up. You guys kick @$$. I really enjoy your channel. I just stumbled on it while searching for mobile home remodel ideas. (The poly wall one popped up. I loved the idea. Kinda reminded me of the walls in traditional Japanese homes.)
    You are doing what I call "flopping" a house. Living in it while fixing it to sell, even if that wasn't the original plan. Moving into a place, start fixing it then having to hurry and finish it in order to move again is something I've done more times than I'd like to admit, in both stick built and mobile homes. I'm currently trimming out the big bay window in my MH. I'm really close to finishing the current stage of the full remodel. It's slow going. I can't work like I used to - too many things hurt or don't work well, lol. So I do what I can as the budget and old bones allow. I've been living "under construction" for 6 years now and I'm ready for it to be done. I've got the bathroom to do yet, then the front porch needs new stairs, handrail and awning. I may even make it into a sunroom. I plan on this being my last one. I'm getting it ready for me to age in place. It's in a 55+ park. I'm getting too old for this carp anymore. lol
    I totally get the minimalist ideology. I bought into the consumption treadmill for too many years. I've been downsizing as I go. Nothing is more of a reminder of how much stuff you don't need as having to look at it daily stacked in the livingroom while remodeling the other rooms. I've started calling it my pilot house - pile it over here, then pile it over there. It's not funny anymore. I'm planning on the Big Purge as I sort through things to put them back where they belong.
    I hope you will continue to document when you move on to your next endeavor.
    Camera tip: Once you get the button unstuck, you can put some clear packing tape over the button to protect it when you are filming sticky/grubby work.

    • @diyfferent
      @diyfferent  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That camera tip sounds simple and neat, maybe we'll try that! Thank you so much :) I hope you can get your home all fixed up so you can just sit back and not have to do that anymore. Moving things from room to room gets old fast, haha! And then you wonder why you even have the stuff. Yea, we've gone through the Big Purge multiple times, "stuff" has a way of multiplying even when you don't want it to! At least some people have benefited from our free piles, lol. Hopefully they aren't hoarders and we are contributing their problem, haha. Our bad spot is the garage, it never fails to get messy, probably because we don't have any shelves or ways to organize the tools.

    I agree with you to not paint the paneling. Simply because if you are selling soon, the new owner gets to decide. It can't be undone once someone else moves in.

  • @smallfootprint2961
    @smallfootprint2961 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I've moved quite a few times and have fixed up a few places. My recommendation is to have a place to go before selling your place. You can always write into an offer that you can stay until you find a place, but I hate that feeling of being without a home. Your place looks great and might not sell at all if you didn't do what you've done. The work won't go to waste. I did the same thing... gave stuff away. Put stuff out by the road and signs for people to come and get free stuff. Habitat for humanity were glad to have most of it. I still have stuff I am getting rid of. Take it to Good Will, Habitat, etc. I love the less is more life. I also don't talk about work. Keep up the great videos and thanks for taking us along.

    The value of your trailer is higher if you retain the wood panel in its orginal condition. Perhaps some wood soap to clean it. So kudos to you for holding on to it. There is a trend toward keeping the vintage. So great you're not painting it.

    The actual name of the fiberglass "cloth" is "fiberglass mat". The most common is called "ounce and a half mat". When I do small fiberglass repairs. I use a piece of cardboard, cut the mat with scissors to cover the area, put a thin coating of resin on the cardboard, lay the piece or pieces on the wet resin, coat with more resin, roll out until the mat is saturated, wet down the area that you want to cover, peel the mat off the cardboard and apply to the area. It works really good when you need to add a couple of layers or are glassing a horizontal or upside down surface. If you want adhesion and don’t care so much about pretty, you can scratch the area with some rough paper like 36 or 50 grit just to knock the loose stuff off. Good luck with the sale and the purchase of new property. It's nobodies business if/or what you do for a living. Good for you!

    You're both doing a great job on fixing up the place. I really hope the place sells quickly for you both and you find somewhere quiet and that speaks to you. I
    don't understand why people need to pry into people's business. I like to just watch channels on youtube, and figure what the people do when the camera is off, is no concern of mine. If they share it fine, if not, just as fine. If you're ever in need of a quick and easy brush to paint with, you can try smashing end of a thin green tree branch. Make a few splits in one end of a stick or branch, then start to fray out the fibres by smacking repeatedly with a brick, hammer or rock until they resemble a rudimentary brush. If too many break off, just cut it off and start over. Its not pretty and won't last long, but its free and abundant, and it'll do in a pinch :)
    I relate to being a minimalist. I've always tried to live pretty simply and not accumulate too much stuff, but am not hardcore by any means yet. If i get something new it generally has to replace something I have or upgrade it and serve multiple functions so i can replace 2 things. Stuff just becomes more to clean, to move, to stress and worry about. I need to do a little more downsizing, but at the same time, I also like to buy good quality things which last a long while. Definitely easier though when you're single and don't have kids or people to worry about messing up your stuff.

    "Where did you learn all this stuff?". Hahaha I am self taught, I strip and prep, jib, stop and plaster, paint, paper, plumb and do electrical I am permitted by law to do, build inside and outdoor structures, and I am all self taught. The majority of times I get it right first time because I thought it out first. To me it is just common sense... read the instructions and do it or stare at it and figure it out. I've never really had any problems doing what needs to be done and I have very rarely ever hired a professional. I don't do the vehicle though beyond changing the oil and rotating the tires... I leave the rest up to the mechanic. I am a 60 yo female and I am still amazed at people who can't do these things, won't even attempt it. Just try it!
    Love the way you closed out today's video, you had me to the end..... and don't forget the mound. I really want to know if there are interesting things buried there. I think you’re smart to leave the paneling because it’s an easy job to paint it if the buyers don’t like paneling but if a new buyer likes the paneling, once painted it can’t easily be brought back to original. You’re taking care of the work that needs to be done and doing a great job.

    When it comes to fiberglass repairs such as the barn roof, there is a fiberglass woven cloth which is used in marine and auto body repairs. That material would be MUCH more user friendly than the loose fiber material you used.

    Amazing how you have to talk loud to be heard above the sound of the road. Your place looks so sharp. I'd have the same problem with the highway noise but otherwise, I'm like you. I love that property. I see you as "flippers" you bought low, fixed it up and will make some profit on it. That didn't used to be called flipping but, it was a starter home and now you're moving on. Good for you. What is a "real job" these days? Many people work from home and work on the internet. People have to mind their own business and do what makes them happy. So happy for your progress. I really look forward to your videos.

    If you like the panelling, that's all that matters. My MIL still keeps her panelling in her kitchen & bathroom and conditions it with Murphy's Oil Soap. All your renovations will pay off in the long run. Wish you all the best with the sale of your property!

    You both have done such amazing work on the property. It's beautiful and should catch the eyes of prospective buyers. I wish success and that everything goes smoothly for you. I did a lot of DIY on the house my parents owned in PA after they passed away. Also, I don't feel that your financial and work life is a concern to anyone. It is not right that you are subjected to any negative or intrusions. You are nice people, remember No is a complete sentence. Thank you so much for sharing. :-)

    I think what you hv done is amazing..the work on the mobil home and property at large is amazing. I think you moving and selling at a profit is such a great thing. Why not make a profit? I have gone back and binge watched all your channels videos. You guys work so well together. Its inspiring. I hv a new question about the paneling. " when will you stop talking about not painting the paneling?" Ha ha. Do what you want. Don't worry about what others think. If someone wants it painted. They will paint it after they buy it. Love your sweet daughter and your funny babay boy..
