    Intelligence without sentience was my big takeaway from Blindsight. Understanding that concept was huge for me

    Woooo! I read this book thanks to Cody's recommendation and honestly I had to read it twice - whilst I struggled with the writing style in parts, the story and execution is amazing. Definitely a 4/5 from me and great to hear Peter break down his thoughts. The whole right angles thing (along with the vampires having superior IQ) totally fascinated me, like it's really hard to write a superior intellect because we are all just apes with keyboards so getting insight into something higher level needs to be kind of abstract and partially hidden - I think he did that well with Sarasti, he kind of kept to himself and only spoke when absolutely necessary so it kept that allure of mystery.

    • @hugonautspod
      @hugonautspod  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sarasti - the strong, silent type. Are we 100% sure Peter wasn't inspired by Twilight?

      @@hugonautspod"Consciousness expands to fit the mold it's put in".
      Remember, Sarrasti was perpetually mainlined to the ship AI.
      It was basically a vampire cyborg AI interface with the AI and Sarrasti effectively acting as two hemispheres in one brain.

    Tried blindsight earlier today.
    But only got through 2 hours of audiobook before giving up in boredom.
    Sounds like it gets better shortly after that point and maybe I'll go back and try more of it.
    The author is clearly creative and enjoys "what ifs" to a high degree.
    The kind of people I enjoy spending time with most.
    However so far Im not a fan of his writing or characterization.
    Enjoyed the interview 👍

    Neither a Blindsight/Echopraxia movie or Mr. Watts writing Omniscience seem to be coming to fruition with any speed, which is an utterly soul crushing prospect. Also, while Mr. Watts is undoubtably brilliant he comes off in interviews as a bit of a fart sniffer like most academics. There should be mandatory psyche counseling for guys like this.

      @@davidgodfrey880 After the discord application opens, there should be an icon for our server just below the direct messages button. So very far left is there a discord logo in the very top, which when you hover over it says direct messages, and which contains the friends tab. Below that discord logo is there a Hugonauts logo? If you click that, should take you into the server! Wish I could respond with a screenshot but youtube doesn't have that option.

    My all-time favourite Sci-Fi book is Blindsight (I re-read it once a year). The density of interesting ideas and concepts that permeate his books is the main reason that sets him apart from other authors. Thanks for the interview, guys! Hi from Ukraine 🙌🇺🇦
