Intelligence without sentience was my big takeaway from Blindsight. Understanding that concept was huge for me
Blindsight is my favorite book of all time. After watching this, I love the book and Watts even more. Great one fellas!
This!
Haha he's such a character!
Same. Really hope CDPR makes a game with Peter one day. That would be a whole new level of epic!
That Buffy the Vampire panel story never gets old.
Peter is the best, always a pleasure to hear from him.
Oh man, what a treat to wake up to!
Somehow I didn't felt the vampire dysonating with the rest, but now with the interview I like it even more! Great interview! I loved it!
This man is so wonderful. Thanks for doing this Hugonauts!
So glad you liked!
Woooo! I read this book thanks to Cody's recommendation and honestly I had to read it twice - whilst I struggled with the writing style in parts, the story and execution is amazing. Definitely a 4/5 from me and great to hear Peter break down his thoughts. The whole right angles thing (along with the vampires having superior IQ) totally fascinated me, like it's really hard to write a superior intellect because we are all just apes with keyboards so getting insight into something higher level needs to be kind of abstract and partially hidden - I think he did that well with Sarasti, he kind of kept to himself and only spoke when absolutely necessary so it kept that allure of mystery.
Sarasti - the strong, silent type. Are we 100% sure Peter wasn't inspired by Twilight?
@@hugonautspod"Consciousness expands to fit the mold it's put in".
Remember, Sarrasti was perpetually mainlined to the ship AI.
It was basically a vampire cyborg AI interface with the AI and Sarrasti effectively acting as two hemispheres in one brain.
And now to make you read it a third time... who are the two antagonists in the story? 🙃
This was awesome! I've been rereading Blindsight this month after discovering that awesome short film a few months ago- I had no idea Echopraxia was getting a sequel or that there was so much film in the works!
CDPR needs to get together with him and make a game! That would be one for the books!
Thanks guys!
I love his books BECAUSE they are depressing. Favorite author.
I was in the worst mood, punched a wall, drank a liter of vodka to fall asleep. Now, life seems exciting again. it really does
Absolutely great interview! Didn't know I could fall more in love with Watts
Thanks for sharing this interview. ! I recently read Blindsight because of your recommendation.
Of course, hope you enjoyed!
Oooh! New interview! \m/
excited to see this come across my feed, what a surprise banger!
Hope you enjoyed it!
great interview! this guy is just awesome
So glad you like!
Fascinating.
Thank you for the interview! I missed the original recommendation, but will give Blindsight a read now 👍
Hope you love it! Crazy book - it's all about the big ending
Peter is always a unique mind to hear from.
Love Blindsight! Got the novel and the audio-book
Ceo of midjourney sent me here - love your ideas!
Rifters was uncomfortably brilliant
I, ve got a bit obsessed with Firefall...Peters great to listen to...
Tried blindsight earlier today.
But only got through 2 hours of audiobook before giving up in boredom.
Sounds like it gets better shortly after that point and maybe I'll go back and try more of it.
The author is clearly creative and enjoys "what ifs" to a high degree.
The kind of people I enjoy spending time with most.
However so far Im not a fan of his writing or characterization.
Enjoyed the interview 👍
Glad you liked the interview, if not the book!
More Sunflower cycle please!
Neither a Blindsight/Echopraxia movie or Mr. Watts writing Omniscience seem to be coming to fruition with any speed, which is an utterly soul crushing prospect. Also, while Mr. Watts is undoubtably brilliant he comes off in interviews as a bit of a fart sniffer like most academics. There should be mandatory psyche counseling for guys like this.
Blindsight is my favourite book. Concepts and ideas blew my socks off and terrified me at the same time - love it!! Really, really enjoyed Things as well - never watched my favourite movie the same way again!
Trying to join your discord - but it doesn't seem to be working... I select the link, the discord invite pops up - but then nothing...any suggestions?
Hmmmmm. After you click the link do you see a page on discord that says accept invite?
I@@hugonautspod a new Safari window opens up that says "discord" and "accept invite"...I'm on a Mac... .I select "accept invite" which then opens up the Discord application on the "Friends" Tab - w/ no (apparent option) for your server and the server link doesn't appear anywhere...
@@davidgodfrey880 After the discord application opens, there should be an icon for our server just below the direct messages button. So very far left is there a discord logo in the very top, which when you hover over it says direct messages, and which contains the friends tab. Below that discord logo is there a Hugonauts logo? If you click that, should take you into the server! Wish I could respond with a screenshot but youtube doesn't have that option.
@@hugonautspod No Hugonauts logo ...actually there's nothing under direct messages no matter what I try... it's what I would expect/see - .. so not sure what I'm doing wrong...
What's your discord username? Maybe I can send you a DM and we can get it sorted@@davidgodfrey880
My all-time favourite Sci-Fi book is Blindsight (I re-read it once a year). The density of interesting ideas and concepts that permeate his books is the main reason that sets him apart from other authors. Thanks for the interview, guys! Hi from Ukraine 🙌🇺🇦
P.S. And no, I'm not the guy who asked Peter to sign the book "Fuck you, Stanislaw!" 😁
Slava Ukraini! Haha glad you liked it, such an interesting book
Blindsight movie?!
Let us pray, amen
Steven Baxter was a scientist before he became a writer.
Fell in love with him after "Moonseed". Great writer.
29:15 lmao i guess even amongst the best need to deal with the beast of procrastination
Also glad to see he has a sense of humour far cry from most sci fi authors
He is angry
Hahahaha
