Based on was based 1937 short story "Leiningen Versus the Ants" by Carl Stephenson. It was also dramatized on radio under that title with William Conrad playing the lead.
I remember seeing this film on tv in the 1970s then a few years later it was a book in my english literature class at school and thinking "this seems kinda familiar"
William Conrad - I've always liked him - he was the original radio's "Matt Dillion in Gunsmoke" and did a wonderful job. IDK he could have been a leading man like Rock Hudson or Jeff Chandler but he had an issue - he was chubby - too bad - he would have really been good looking if he'd lost maybe 30 lbs.; at the time of this movie anyway - he progressively got heavier - or maybe he was ok with it - he worked a lot - first in radio then movies and finally he got his own show in the 80's "Cannon" - his deep melodic voice is unmistakable.
Porque no la bajan completa la película. Me encantaría verla otra vez. Excelentes actuaciones de Charlton Heston y Eleanor Parker. Please bajenla, me encantan las películas de Charlton Heston, mi actor favorito. ❤️
Both ants and aunts can be hard to get rid of. Fortunately, I had no really bad aunts...but the folks on the other side of the holler weren't so lucky. Folk had to give those ladies more passing room than was even available on the road...or in the grocery aisles...or by the graveside at a funeral. "Ants and Aunts", a boy from that family once told me wearily, "Can't leave a cookie on the counter long enough to pour a glass of milk without attracting dozens..."
This scene would have been awesome if , when he heard the word Marabunta , Heston would have choked and blown his wine through his nose back into the glass.
@midnightteapot5633: Haha, had that reaction been in the scene, it would have conflicted with Heston's character which has an element of arrogance and pride, yet to be subdued by humility as he faces the oncoming army ants.
True, that is why the idea amused me. I also imagined after it was established that the servants had gone out and it was safe to talk, when the Commissioner said the word Marabunta, a huge crash of dropped plates came out of the kitchen heh, just my whack sense of humor.@@danjarvis6980
……Mr Heston is my favourite actor! Had the great honour, & privilege of meeting him, & his beautiful wife, Lydia many times’ 1966-1996. They were the most down-to-earth people I’d ever met, great conversationalists’ on many subjects’. They both gone now……RIP
How to make the word 'ants' absolutely terrifying 😊😊 love this movie, one of the all time classics
Marabunta 💀 Your so right mate!
I love this movie!

Indeed. He did tons of radio dramas, playing all sorts of characters as well as regular gigs like Gunsmoke and The Shadow.
GREAT movie!
I've seen it. In Peru. Not on the scale as they make it out, but it's best to get out of their way. They have no fear.
1954...The year of the ants. The Naked Jungle and THEM!
classic but still better than the new stuff: love it !
I totally agree.
"If you knew anything about music you know a piano is better when it's played." Sexual innuendo at its most eloquently raw and hormonally cryptic.
Classic!!

My favorite movie, they dont make movies like this anymore.
The Naked Jungle was released in 1954 so this just might very well be the original "shit just got real" moment.
I got ants in my house. They're a bitch to get rid of.
😂😂
No lie there-!

Glad we don't have those in America.
You have mass immigration. I'll take army ants anyday over that swarm!
We have fire ants which, in my opinion, are worse.
Not yet...😮
Heston will just shoot the ants
movie filmed in peru, after the secret of the incas!!!
