When I think of Undertale Yellow, this is the first song that comes to mind. It's so iconic. I also find it clever how the only time Dalv's motif shows up is when the music is in the ruins, or has to do with Dalv himself. Obviously, it would show up in the ruins and Forlorn, since... yeah. And if we don't count

I am commenting on every single song of the Undertale Yellow Soundtrack playlist! (Read this knowing I discovered, explored and played Deltarune (in 2021) before Undertale (in 2022), which to the current day of this comment I have only watched the entirety of, but not actually played. Hence why I assume that I like Deltarune more than Undertale, because it was personal and... new, in a way, but can still feel what I would call a "fake" nostalgia from Undertale despite that). I played Undertale Yellow one time. My playthrough went across from 10/12/2023 to 26/12/2023, during a total of 15-16 days. I played it, aimed for the best, and got True Pacifist. When I finish it, I tell Flowey to wait. And get off the computer for the day. Some days pass by, and I finally start watching a True Pacifist route on YT. Some days pass by again, and I gain the courage to watch the not-so-dark path, and then the truly dark path. Some time passes once again, and I finally watch the end offered by Flawed Pacifist. DALV!!!!! Yellow Toriel, Cartoon Network vampire, whatever you wanna call him, the first boss encounter of the adventure is finally here! WAHOOO I might as well strap in to this banger cuz Imma be here for a bit hahah!!! 3 minutes of non-stop head bounces, that's what is is! (not counting the part where the end cuts back to the beginning in the most anticlimatic way imaginable lol) It starts out with a lone and ominous organ playing slowly, something you would expect from Dalv's appearance (and his likes), it begins to build to something, and when it reaches that point, the music stutters like it doesn't know where it wants to go, and just frees itself from a completely serious tune saying like "screw it I'm not holding back, I'll sing my heart out"; a feeling that combines pretty well with Dalv. The fact that this thesis applies so well to both Dalv and his music (as if they were one in the same, which they are, sorta) is something I find very amusing (and kinda funny XD) to think about. Until some days ago, when I actually decided to search it, I didn't know what "Forlorn" meant. I even thought it was just a made up word (which I would not be surprised since it is coming from something like Undertale Yellow). Then I saw that it meant to be alone, abandoned... which I don't even need to say why it fits right? (well, too bad cause I'm gonna say it anyways :) Dalv keeps his story and secrets to himself mostly, he doesn't want to bother people with his own problems, something that has taken quite the toll on him unfortunately. Still holding back a little and regretfully doing it, he attacks Clover, because they insisted in entering Dalv's domain, but it's not only that, since Dalv affirms he recognizes the kid, while in reality it's the effect of a looming terrible memory that Dalv kept to himself. "Have you come to finish the job?", "Don't you remember me?" are pretty good indicators of it. Sometime in the past, he wasn't like this, though something happened one day, and he shut himself off from everyone and now... he has to fight back with what he still has, for what he still has. I think it's safe to say that "Forlorn" and its context do a good parallel for "Heartache" from Undertale, a similar situation. Both take place in ruined places sure, but there's more to it. Both Toriel and Dalv do really subtle and next-to-nothing moves in the battle, it being of course because they don't really want to do it. They know what they are doing is wrong, yet they still have their motives to do it. Toriel feels the need to protect, Dalv feels the need to fight back because he assumes he has nothing left. Both tracks are named after their bad sentiments, and are quite intense and decisive, like it is the first big choice that is being presented to be made (which we already know well it is ;) Something I have also noticed (and I hope it's correct), is that: "Heartache" has one core instrument, the weird flute thing (I don't actually know if it is a flute), and the rest of the song is mostly composed out of "bit" electronic sounds and melodies. Well, "Forlorn" has one core instrument, the organ, and the rest of the song is mostly made out of "bit" melodies and sound effects. Now that I think about it, this can add up to the the fact that their actions here are fake, artificial, these are not who they really are, and it's good both of them realise it in the end! We ain't done just yet, I maybe have been here for a little more than an hour, but I'll clock another one if I need to alright! Back to the musical aspect? Sure! I might have talked about the organ part in the beginning, but it actually becomes something sprinkled along the song, not in many sections though. Also caught the whistle reminiscent from "Fever Pitch" in it, starting at 0:45. I'd like to imagine Decibat just watching the thing unfold and contributing, or maybe passing by, whistling silently to the sound of this jammer! (I wonder if it's too loud for their taste). Gotta say, for a song mostly put together with non-instrumental melodies, it rocks in a way I can- definitely describe, just look up and you'll find out why wow XD. The constant drums definitely help it reach that headboppin' status too! Can't believe I still haven't touched the battle itself! At first I was like "Lightning attacks? They're cool sure, but they don't really fit a vampire that much" (wait I only now realised decibat is a bat and Dalv is a vampire dude I'm so dumb to notice these little things lmao, THAT'S SO CLEVER EVEN THOUGH IT'S JUST A MEANINGLESS INTENTIONAL COINCIDENCE AAAARGH I LOVE THIS). Only then I realised that it does makes sense: Vampires are to be considered a figure associated to scary circumstances, and lightning bolts in a thunderstorm, creeping through the windows at a late night, can too be considered in that (just like it happens in the bolt attacks, that shine their light in the background of the battle, IT ALL CONNECTS). The battle is not that hard, but that's expected. Not only the Dark Ruins are the first area Clover ventured themselves into, but it is also a time for Clover to reflect on Dalv's situation, to then develop their choice on how to deal with it. (i was debating on writing this, i didn't want to bring IT up...though it is weighing on my mind now. when you... finish Dalv, leading him to believe everything is fine, to then backshot him in the end... "I shouldn't have let my guard down...", he says in a final breath... "I would've been a good friend..."... without a doubt, one of the strongest lines of the entire route. heartbreaking.) Despite trying to look serious and focused, Dalv finally breaks free of his mental imprisonment and understands what he has done and caused. He has no idea of how to solve it, he's at a loss. An idea sparkles on Clover's mind... Maybe... a handshake, would suffice? We're reaching the end (i think). I couldn't forget, of course, to mention how much in awe I was to know how long this song dates back, completely untouched. It surprised me maybe more to see it than with "Fever Pitch". Also, this song can feel so much disconnected with its sad context, that it works PERFECTLY for the Undertale Yellow Launch Trailer that it was used in. Seriously, I love that trailer for just throwing everything at you all at once, while this plays, it gives me life! Somewhat regarding that, I'm proud to say that it has been exactly 2 months since the release of Undertale Yellow! (applause) And with it, not only "Forlorn", but the playlist of all these beautiful pieces, which I still am excited to experience again, in the most detailed and overly-complicated way imaginable! I didn't said much yesterday (mostly because I couldn't think of anything and didn't really saw it myself at the time), but I can see I definitely surpassed my expectations with this one lol! But you know what, this comment is exactly what I envisioned when I started doing these everyday, and I feel so happy to see I am capable of accomplishing it! Feeling hopeful for the future of this journey... who knows if I will actually be able to do something as grand as this... I hope so >:) Despite that, let's hold down the horseys for a bit! Clover still has the honor to be a guest at Dalv's house! I think that would be something friends would do, right? Justice delivered. (09/02/2024)
On the genocide route i was so destroyed when he talked about that girl that used to draw paintings for him and how he never thanked her 😭😭😭 ( i killed her ) Edit : that monster called penila
I honestly dunno if its intentional or im just playing the fight that way, but the part at 1:13 always syncs with Dalv using the spinning electricity circle attack
[Lyrics] 0:12 This time I won't be running I guess this fight was a long time coming Are you here just to hurt me? Who has sent you, why can't you just leave me? Did you harm other monsters? Wish I cared more, we don't really talk much Why do you trespass freely This is my home, just leave me alone 0:34 I fled all the way here just to get bothered by another human, memories just won't leave me be That day I will never forget, The fear that shook my fragile soul, each dainty step, my desperate pleas I've been rotting here for too long, Been feeding off of nothing except corn, it's barely kept me living This is where I now must belong Although I wish I could return, the outside world is unforgiving 0:56 That solemn look inside your eyes, What's with your refusal to fight? Why do you look so helpless, Feel so different, You're not who brought along my demise
This is way too good of a song for a first area boss. I'd accept that as a final boss theme. Also Dalv *may* have potentially killed a human, but we'll forgive our precious boy
He attacked the blue soul human, then the blue soul human fought back and escaped Might be the reason why it was impure and led to kanako’s d€eath Plus it’s said that nobody knows what happens in the ruins from outside which means ceroba didn’t know Which means dalv might have k1lled kanako
@@Cicine59 Dalv was the monster in Snowdin playing with Kanako, so Kanako saw the fight take place. Also; beating the crap out of people and then sparing them doesn’t make you impure, so that wasn’t the reason.

disclaimer that i haven’t finished the game yet, so not sure if this gets addressed later. but something i haven’t seen many talk about is the fact that dalv originally mistook you to be some kind of phantom, a phantom that he seemingly recognizes. we know clover has obviously never met dlav before. but based on his dialogue in the ruins, along with how dalv never expected to meet “another human”, did dalv know another human in the past? if he did, was it one of the fallen humans? curious to know what others think! edit: i finished the game and have feelings about it! :,)
Personally I think Dalv met the human with the blue soul at some point. Because of Spoiler reasons: Mainly because they seem to be the most relevant other human to the story, considering they where the Soul Chujin got his hands on for his experiments. On the Pacifist route, Dalv also notices how different Clover acts from the previous human he met and the blue human did attack at least some monsters (which is why their soul couldn't be used for the serum).
like the above commenter says, he was most likely attacked by the human with the blue soul. kanako had a drawing of dalv in her room, and chujin mentions a monster was playing with her in snowdin before they got attacked.
@@altf4undo01 Close, if so; Dalv attacked integrity first. He mentions as much if you fight him. It’s very likely he did so because he felt fearful of the human (who may have killed others before.) and fought them to protect Kanako. They beat him up, but spared him in the end, and Dalv escaped.
The melody at 0:55 got me seriously thinking of Xenoblade 2, specifically Temperantia. They're nearly identical for 2 full measures minus 1 note, they're even in the same key as far as I know. Idk if this was intentional or not but this got me loving Forlorn more than before, cause the Xenoblade series is my favorite, and this is just a funny coincidence (maybe?) and I appreciate it very much for being so
p sure you've probably seen this but if you want extra dialogue you can travel back to snowdin with the mail whale after you beat starlo because you get a letter from dalv saying his life has been alot better since you've spoke to him last and to visit him sometime and when u go you can ask him about his future or furniture lolz!!

I love how both Forlorn and Heartache take cues from their games' respective versions of Enemy Approaching
i really wish dalv appeared more in the game, like, even though hes "uninteresting" hes just so lovable
he does appear again in snowdin if you backtrack after a while

Idk if it’s just me but I would’ve loved to see Dalv join you as a party member, and his spells could include boosting your speed to electric shields to protect you from an enemy’s attack, and more dialogue from him too, god, I want to see Martlet and Dalv interact with each other during the Dunes segment have Dalv and Ceroba interact during the Steamworks segment.
@kerran4550 He makes a comment about how Axis’ wife and Pops would get along well
Everyone's favourite eripmav, Dalv nov Alucard.
WAHOOO
I might as well strap in to this banger cuz Imma be here for a bit hahah!!!
3 minutes of non-stop head bounces, that's what is is! (not counting the part where the end cuts back to the beginning in the most anticlimatic way imaginable lol)
It starts out with a lone and ominous organ playing slowly, something you would expect from Dalv's appearance (and his likes), it begins to build to something, and when it reaches that point, the music stutters like it doesn't know where it wants to go, and just frees itself from a completely serious tune saying like "screw it I'm not holding back, I'll sing my heart out"; a feeling that combines pretty well with Dalv.
(well, too bad cause I'm gonna say it anyways :)
Dalv keeps his story and secrets to himself mostly, he doesn't want to bother people with his own problems, something that has taken quite the toll on him unfortunately.
Both tracks are named after their bad sentiments, and are quite intense and decisive, like it is the first big choice that is being presented to be made (which we already know well it is ;)
Something I have also noticed (and I hope it's correct), is that: "Heartache" has one core instrument, the weird flute thing (I don't actually know if it is a flute), and the rest of the song is mostly composed out of "bit" electronic sounds and melodies.
"I would've been a good friend..."... without a doubt, one of the strongest lines of the entire route. heartbreaking.)
Despite trying to look serious and focused, Dalv finally breaks free of his mental imprisonment and understands what he has done and caused.
I hope so >:)
Despite that, let's hold down the horseys for a bit! Clover still has the honor to be a guest at Dalv's house! I think that would be something friends would do, right?
Justice delivered.

This time I won't be running
I guess this fight was a long time coming
Are you here just to hurt me?
Who has sent you, why can't you just leave me?
Did you harm other monsters?
Wish I cared more, we don't really talk much
Why do you trespass freely
This is my home, just leave me alone
0:34
I fled all the way here just to get
bothered by another human, memories just won't leave me be
That day I will never forget,
The fear that shook my fragile soul, each dainty step, my desperate pleas
I've been rotting here for too long,
Been feeding off of nothing except corn, it's barely kept me living
This is where I now must belong
Although I wish I could return, the outside world is unforgiving
0:56
That solemn look inside your eyes,
What's with your refusal to fight?
Why do you look so helpless,
Feel so different,
You're not who brought along my demise

@@MaskedHeroLucky oh.
@@MaskedHeroLucky So was Vlad just made into Dracula through legends?
disclaimer that i haven’t finished the game yet, so not sure if this gets addressed later. but something i haven’t seen many talk about is the fact that dalv originally mistook you to be some kind of phantom, a phantom that he seemingly recognizes. we know clover has obviously never met dlav before. but based on his dialogue in the ruins, along with how dalv never expected to meet “another human”, did dalv know another human in the past? if he did, was it one of the fallen humans? curious to know what others think!
edit: i finished the game and have feelings about it! :,)
Personally I think Dalv met the human with the blue soul at some point.
Because of Spoiler reasons:
Mainly because they seem to be the most relevant other human to the story, considering they where the Soul Chujin got his hands on for his experiments.
