  • In this video, we will show you how to connect multiple 12 volt marine batteries in parallel to create to increased amp-hour rating. Wiring in parallel sums capacity (amp-hours) while maintaining our single-battery voltage.
If we start with two identical 12 Volt, 100 amp-hour batteries and wire them in parallel, we will receive 200 amp-hours at 12 volts. This is a great option for powering a 12 volt trolling motor where the battery life runs out prior to the end of your fishing day, or for those looking to get added run time out of cranking or electronic accessory batteries.

Thank you that’s exactly what I needed to know.

I thought u are supposed to hook to negative on one and positive on the other battery for the trolling motor and the charger anyway

I have a question that I cannot find anywhere on TH-cam when I connect to lithium ion batteries and parallel versus wiring them in series. What happens to the water hours?

Diagram connection is different than his install procedure. He connected trolling motor to one battery and diagram showed neg lead to battery 1 and pos lead to battery 2. Your response?

How about charging them? Do you just need to put the charger on one battery, and it will charge both?

Can you use one bank to charge two batteries in parallel? How would you put the leads on?

      Thomas Robey,
We would recommend each battery to have their own bank. You could do two batteries in parallel with one Bank but it will take a lot longer to charge the batteries that way the Charger could time out. You would put the leads to one battery and when that battery is full it will trickle over to the other battery.
      Best Regards.

@@MinnKotaMotors I agree. I actually do this. However, I fully charge the batteries first, then hook them in parallel from biggest to smallest, then hook the automatic trickle charger to the biggest battery. I only do this to maintain batteries over winter. It does work however.

Something scares me here about slightly un-equal battery voltages and the large current that may result between the two batteries!...any help???

in effect the batteries should come to equilibrium, its like jump starting a car battery but just leaving the terminal clamps on the batteries forever lol

⚠️⚠️There is a possibility that This particular WIRING can end VERY BADLY.⚠️⚠️
ALWAYS USE FUSES TOGETHER WITH A PROPER FUSEHOLDER THAT CAN WITHSTAND HIGH CURRENTS OVER 100 AMPS. (When shortciruited)
SO: in my opinion there has to be a FUSE in the Red cable (between the + of the batteries) and the cable that runs to the motor HAS TO HAVE another FUSE. Think of 50-60 Amps fuses. You do NOT want to be close to a DOUBLE LEAD ACID that is short circuited

follow the diagram, not the demo when hooking the trolling motor to the batteries.

  • @ras1on1

Why does the wiring diagram show trolling motor negative and positive going to separate batteries and you hooked them to the same battery. Makes no difference but you showed one thing and did another.

    • @AllSnipe

What he meant to say was series. The way he's doing it is producing 24v. Parallel is same voltage (12v) but doubling the runtime with the extra battery.

    • @davidmillen2705

@@AllSnipe It's still parallel. Red connected to red, black connected to black. If he connected the battery positive to 2nd battery negative, then connected his motor to the other free posts, that would be 24v.
And yes, the way he demonstrated it (connected the motor leads to only one battery) was wrong. It does make a difference and the diagram should be followed (connected to one side of each battery) so it doesn't lead to uneven discharge and recharging.

  • @wade4025
    @wade4025 ปีที่แล้ว +2

May be better to Connect the load to the positive of the first battery and the negative of the last battery to make the batteries discharge evenly.
