Xaver Scharwenka (1850-1924) was a Polish-German Pianist and Composer of Bohemian-Polish decent. He was the brother of Philipp Scharwenka, also a composer. Although he began learning to play the piano by ear when he was 3, Scharwenka did not start formal music studies until he was 15, when his family moved to Berlin and he enrolled at the Akademie der Tonkunst. Under Theodor Kullak, his pianistic skills developed rapidly, and he made his debut at the Singakademie in 1869.
Praised for the beauty of his tone, he became a renowned interpreter of the music of Frédéric Chopin. In 1886, he conducted the first in a series of orchestral concerts devoted to the music of Hector Berlioz, Franz Liszt and Ludwig van Beethoven while continuing to tour extensively and play his works in collaboration with other artists such as the conductor Hans Richter and the violinist Joseph Joachim.
Among pianists who received some instruction from him were José Vianna da Motta, Fridtjof Backer-Grøndahl and Selmar Janson. There is no copyright infringement intended. Probably the most underrated composer.
What a shame that I haven't heard of Scharwenka before! His music is gold :D
polish romantic piano music is pure treasure especially rhe one that has been neglected and there are not a few of those
Happy I found this composer, really beautiful music and nice playing!
I agree...such nice pieces and the performances are refined/beautiful.
Delicious compositions played with the choicest tempo and volume at each moment
Scharwenka grande pianista ingiustamente sottovalutato e dimenticato.Onore al merito..

Франц Ксавер Шарвенка, Пруссия (Поруссия). Звучит очень даже достойно, но в наших краях много ль о нем знают?
Thank you for this discovering
À gem
Please who is the pianist?
seta tanyel
im liking the scherzo! well of it ,, but its nice
How edible is that Minuet?! Gorgeous!
I know! Its so clever
Chopin lui a fait de l’ombre mais c’est sans jalousie qu’il devint l’un de ses plus grands interprètes et comme compositeur l’un de ses plus fidèles disciples les pièces enregistrées ici en témoignent !
Do you have any information about places where the performance doesn't match what's in the score? For example, in the Polonaise op.12 round 33:26, last bar on the page.
Hello….. any info about the pianist??
How is he "Polish-German"?
