  • Sky News host James Macpherson discusses the one-year anniversary since Australians voted against the Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
    “Tomorrow marks one year since the idea of an Indigenous Voice to Parliament was overwhelmingly rejected at a national referendum,” Mr Macpherson said.
    “Dividing Australians by race was a bad idea.”

      I mostly agree with your sentiment, but I'd change "no separate electorates for ANY minority" to "no separate electorates for ANY group". I also don't mind if someone flies a flag or sings an anthem from a peaceful group or country. I just don't think the government should be officially promoting a separate flag or anthem because it divides the country. But if an individual wants to show support for a country that believes in freedom, democracy, and peace by raising their flag or singing their anthem then I wouldn't have an issue.

    It took less than 4% of the population to ask for a Voice to Parliament to receive full backing and 100s of millions of dollars from the Australian government. But yet when an overwhelming majority of Australians ask for something the current government ignores them.

      I saw a report recently that said that the "indigenous" people of Australia were not truly the first people to live there.
      I don't know how true that is, but here in the US it's that way, so it's quite possible that the same goes for Australia.
      But, in both cases you're not allowed to talk about it and break the narrative.

    Of the 14 bodies, 13 are part of the Prime Minister and Cabinet portfolio. There are also 5 statutory Indigenous-specific boards or committees, 5 non-Indigenous-specific statutory bodies which have statutory Indigenous members, and several non-statutory advisory bodies.
    In 2023-24, the Indigenous-specific bodies employed 2,714 full-time-equivalent public servants. This is 1.41% of the Australian Government’s 191,861 full-time-equivalent non-military public servants.
    Estimated 2023-24 total Australian Government expenditure on all Indigenous-specific programs is $5.3 billion.
    As of June 30, 2021, there were 983,700 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders onshore.
    All that got me thinking - *_WTF comes next??_* ... why doesn't someone write something about the public funding of private *ISLAMIC SCHOOLS???* ... & then - blow me down - *this* popped up in the search results:

Hiding behind a job is not an excuse for misappropriation of funds in any other profession.       Multiple Indigenous majority electorates and individuals voted no. Politicizing reconciliation was voted down by a fair and democratic vote of the people of Australia. Do you have a problem with that.
