"In the 1966 Load Lines convention, adopted by IMO, provisions are made determining the freeboard of ships by subdivision and damage stability calculations." (imo)
@@carolinedick8764 Remember that double bottom can also provide safety layer for damage stability, especially L type of ballast and storage tanks. Sometimes holds also have middle division between 2 holds where are HFO and MDO tanks, dividing two holds.
m rowland I think most general cargo, project cargo and heavy lift ships will have them. Sometimes they also can be lifted into bulkead position for bulk cargoes.
Does anybody here do ships channel shoutouts, my channel is struggling & not growing effectively when I'm always uploading, I really need a little help to take off.
@@michaelsrowland yes every single item by multiple belts, chains and or cables. Heavy items also get stoppers, steel plates welded to prevent the cargo from sliding.
Got to know what you are doing... all sorts of risks here. Great vid.

really good to help me establish a expression of loading general cargo .very interesting
And very satisfying.
shifting pontoons by gantry crane makes life easier.
It saves a lot of time
Timelapse at it,s best.love it.
good job
Such a cool video.
Yes Elsa, it is at that.
it is a double hatches ship.
Do you own this footage? I would like to use a couple of scenes.
Yes it's mine, you can send a DM
Great video!

Is it possible to get access to ports just to have close up views of merchant shipping operstions?.... (I have no interest in cruise liners)
All entries into ports should be monitored as per isps regulations but in small ports you might be able to get quite close in a nearby area.
What is the red item that was the first to be loaded? The white crane appears to be a Manitowoc 4100w.
It was some kind of hammer used in offshore activities.
How is it possible, load line wise, that you have only one big cargo space? Do you have a very big freeboard?
The size of the cargo hold is not related to the loadline.

Dear Fredy . what is the Maximum Tons for above Vessel .?
Can it Cary Granite & marble ?
I'll bet you have to constantly shift the ballast just to swing the crane with a load :)
There is a anti heeling tank to compensate list
@@FerdyHoutstra What a brilliant idea. I did not know they existed. What is the name of this great ship?
@@stephensmith799 at the time of the video it was named 'Indian Dawn'.
does anyone know what they call the shelf type item that gets placed on top of the lower items and thus allows more items to be placed on top ?
m rowland I think you mean the tweendecks
hi, i am grateful for that reply, do you know if all cargo ships have these tweendecks, or only certain ones?
m rowland I think most general cargo, project cargo and heavy lift ships will have them. Sometimes they also can be lifted into bulkead position for bulk cargoes.
I call it a shelf thingie.
what is the name of the equipment that lifts up the tween decks at 26 secs
m rowland we lift the tweendecks with winches on the gantry crane
hatch travelling gantry
Can you say what the frame rate of the timelapse is Ferdy? Both capture and playback?
+Andrew Miller I think i shot at one picture every 5 seconds, the output is 30 fps
Really cool timelapse! When ships have cranes onboard is it the crew that operates them or is it harbour workers?
For us ships crew was operating the cranes when doing heavy lift and project cargo. With some general cargoes there were harbour workers.
@@FerdyHoutstra I see, thanks for the answer!
How does one apply for a job on your ship? (Or any ship for that matter?)

why dont those items get put in a container?
m rowland most items doesn't fit in a container or are to heavy. Items are difficult to lash in containers.
hi, does lash mean to tie the item to something?
Yes lashing means securing the cargo. For example by belts or chains
hi, the video goes too fast, so each item being placed in the holds will be lashed? even the heavy items?
@@michaelsrowland yes every single item by multiple belts, chains and or cables. Heavy items also get stoppers, steel plates welded to prevent the cargo from sliding.
