A world to come was absolutely good……It was set in a time where homosexuality wasn’t heard of…….They absolutely nailed the “hiding in the closet” aspect of things seeing how that’s prolly how it happened back in those times…….They also showed how men cant accept defeat……Would I have loved a different ending absolutely but given the time in which it was set…….ehhhh……Expected
Though the ending made me REALLY sad, the chemistry between the two and daydreaming of killing Tallie's is enough compensation. I've watched it two more times since.

I've watched The World to Come, and I felt it was a hot piece of garbage. The music was awful, the horse was over the top, the chemistry was mediocre and the lines were boring and the story telling and editing left a lot to be desired. Hard pass on ever watching that movie again, and that's without accounting for the shitty ending. Happiest Season was all about Kristen Stewart and Aubrey Plaza, when you watch it, you'll catch my drift. Summerland was **excellent**, right up there with Ammonite and The Half of It. All the thumbs up for these three titles.
I get what you say about "The World to Come", and thank you for sharing your opinion; that being said, I liked it more than Ammonite; somehow, I felt it was tender. It took me a long time to finally watch, but it turns out to be so much better than that I hoped, it was beautiful, deep, with a delicate narrative, and I have absolutely no regrets from watching it. That being said, I was also hoping for a better end, but I totally recommend it.

I believe my expectations were through the roof when I watched The World to Come, due to thrilling trailer, which resulted in me feeling like I got a bucket of cold water over me when watching it. The tenderness was there, indeed, but I still missed passion and a less fragmented tale. The obvious self restraint and longing, and the breaking of the dam of passion left me speechless. And I felt for her mother as well, what a tortured life. World to come.. Its reminds me of my past relationship to same sex, we both have bf that time, and now i we both have already family. We love each other that time, but we don't know what happened next, but i haven't regrets having relationship with her,. I love my family now, my loving and responsible husband and two cute kids..
Not a movie, but "Gentleman Jack" reminds us that queer people did live authentically as themselves (though it probably helped that Anne Lister was wealthy and white)... It's about an actual person and she kept a very detailed diary of her life (with all the juicy bits in code). I think it's a fantastic historic piece and I can't wait for Series 2.

Adding 'Kiss Me Before it Blows up' and 'My First Summer' to my watch list. Thanks for the reccommendations! TWTC - I liked the characters and the setting/cinematography but fully agree that period dramas were the lesbians have to die or be miserable are just not good enough anymore. We need to move away from this and start telling better stories. They do exist - just look at Ann Lister! Dating Amber and Summerland were my favourites on this list. It helped that they were quintisentially British(Irish).

yes, The World to Come could have been perfect without the classic boring and super predictable ending that it had (without making any spoliers). I love the photography, the dialogues are sooo well done -using a more complex and historically accurate english - and I like the actresses although the critique says that there’s not enough chemistry between them (?).

i would love to see more movies of single moms trying to discover their gay side. at they late 20s - early 30s age maybe. i think i would be different and a good story as young females are not the only ones coming out. especially if they are already known as straight with kids. would be good support for the single moms that never got a chance to experiment they sexuality.
I just circles back to this because I didn’t know if you had ever included The World to Come in any of your reviews. I co M pletely agree that it is an absolutely beautiful film. The formet using diary entry voiceovers, intinate conversations between the leads and the visuals make this one of my top 5. Yes, the ending was heartwrenching. But the fact that, for at least a few months, they both felt loved, made it all worthwhile. "How uncommon and extraordinary it is to make one's day." Sigh. ❤❤❤
The World to Come is one of the cruelest movies I have watched. The ending is spine chilling and the thoughts of power and control over the wife is heartbreaking. May men like him rot in hades. I wish we had seen the scene where she comes with the rifle and kills him. I will not be able to watch this movie.

That movie was very beautifully done especially to be produced by a man! To basically only have two characters in the whole movie- and naked majority of the time and not be exploitive is awesome.
In many cultures and countries queer love between women cannot have a happy ending even in the present day, let alone the 19c. Certainly we need new empowering narratives but it would also be good to try not to be spaced out from the pragmatic reality queer women still face in numerous corners of the world just because we were the lucky ones to grow up in Berlin or London..
