From now, during winters, if your shipments have temperature concerns, ship them to someplace warm instead and roadtrip to get them. I know that adds more travel time and hassle, but at least you would be available to intervene to add oxygen, water, or chemicals. You could even mod up a heated van or small bus with tubs, water, oxygen, etc.

the Bichirs will actually latch on and deathroll like a crocodile so the teeth make sense. its sad but was cool to see up close.
at least one of the suspected fish to be dead might not die.
Plus they’re ambush predators. Teeth make sure their prey doesn’t get away
These guys hunt most of the time at dark hours, so the box was 24/7 dark, close range, perfect atmosphere for the bichir

To keep the heat, you can build a roof over some of the aquariums in the hall - constructions on poles, columns covered with some boards and put insulation loosely on it for the winter time.
That's an excellent idea. Like mini-pandemic greenhouses, over each rack.
You can 'double tent' in areas, where you need extra insulation.

weird question.. when the fish die while they are with you but arrive semi alive ? do you ever then freeze them and use them as free feeders to your other fish ? save them being wasted. obviously not with fish that arrive floating as you dont know how long they have been dead. but the others ?

Funny diaper gag you pulled on Paul! I don’t know how you do it with the delivery systems for your fish. So many aren’t reliable lately. You work hard to revive them, which I appreciate and commend you. It must make running your business very difficult. The fish that look like dragons were very cool.
Lol one day he will have to deal with a real diaper. 99% of time they are good shipments but if flights get canceled and fish is not packed properly then we run into these types of situations.

If you guys can get Urogymnus polylepis or the giant fresh water string ray, and accommodate them, you should. They are endangered and breeding them would be amazing, zoos and aquariums would love to have them as well

Iv seen ppl do certain techniques "fish cpr" to bring fish back to life after they jump out of the tankard been on the floor for 1-3 hours and it works most the time.

what are the puffers that can be together?
Very bad to buy fish and see that some of them are dead or sick. Watch the reviews from online shops, if you get it from a store always check the bag to see if all of the fish you will buy looks nice and healthy. Today I got some tiny fish from a store and unfortunately one of them had already dropsy because I was careless and trusted an inexpierienced employ. If I saw it I would propably return all the fish and live store.

We are insulating the back part of the building where all the fish are, should be done before it gets too cold.

I think Paul C. could add that fish with a dragon like dorsal fins. It would look great in the huge tank/pond that he got from you when you moved from Florida if he gets it to a good size to be able to go with his big fish.

I want to have a small fresh water puffer. What is the best small fresh water puffer to start with. I have only kept tetras before so I am new to the puffer game.
theres pea puffer but some say they need to be in groups. imitator puffers, ocellated puffers, red eye puffers, red tailed dwarf puffers. do your research for their needs and what u need. most puffers require a good filtration system as they produce a lot of waste.
also a planted aquarium is always best to keep nitrates down.

Yes, the fish that arrived DOA (dead on arrival) we can claim but the biggest expense is the freight.
