The Trick Dogs that’s my problem with it, it’s not for the dog, it’s so you get attention! Your needlessly putting your dogs life in danger so you can be the centre of attention, dogs are not props! No offence but I guess with a name like “trick dogs” I guess it’s your thing. To me my dog is my best friend and I am responsible for his life and happiness, his not an “object” or possession.
@@geoffsaunderson5766 I don't ride a motorcycle it's on a bike big difference ...I see dogs on motorcycles a lot my dog even has a helmet and doggles to protect him...
The Trick Dogs yeah see I’m sure you love your dog, this is nothing personal, but a dog will do anything to please you, so it will put up with it. Problems lay where we get anthropomorphic about it, trying to humanise animals. I’m pretty sure your dog does not enjoy wearing a helmet and goggles, it’s totally unnatural, but unconditional love will let its self put up with it. Ask yourself who is it for? It’s not for the dog is it . In short “people love it” and you get lots of attention, your dog is probably miserable.
Awesome! My friend has a jack russell corgi mix and we got a rucksack to put him in so I could take him on my trike. He is very reactive, but there was not a peep when we were on the trike- he absolutely loved it! The rucksack front leg holes were too close together for him, but he was comfy enough for short journeys. I am getting a dobe this year, so need to find an alternative solution that doesn't break the bank! Might be trade the trike for an outfit! Safe riding!

What a cool idea! I haven't been very active with my dog Harley this last year - we moved from Europe to Australia, my poor boy had to have several operations on his leg, and we're only just resuming normal life now! Thanks for your comment, I'm feeling very motivated to revive this channel with more doggy adventures. Love the idea of a group where we can all share them!
My girlfriend and I both ride bikes and have 2 dogs. We are trying to figure out how to travel on our bikes with our dogs. This was a good helpful video.
I'm really glad it helped you guys out! Awesome that you both ride! What sort of bikes do you guys ride? And are your dogs large? I'm looking into long distance solutions now. For instance, there are some great dual-sport trailers out there, I'll be ordering one later this year as my boy and I pack our things to live on the road. The carrier has been a great solution so far but I'll need something that is better suited for riding solo long distances with a 12.5kg dog. I'll definitely make more videos as I go. Safe riding, mate!!
I ride a Victory Vegas 8 Ball and my girlfriend rides a Honda Shadow Spirit. We have two dogs about the same size as your dog. I have been wanting to take our dogs out but just didn't have a solution. I follow this guy on youtube that rides with his dog too. His bag was pretty expensive though. We will get something though. This year I want to do a lot of bike rides and photography and I know we will have to bring the dogs along. We can't go on every trip without those little mutts. Ha ha.
That's awesome!! I know, those bags are so expensive! And they're not usually suited for larger dogs. Out of curiosity, what bag does this guy you watch use? I have come up with a scrappy solution for the back of the bike, basically a metal cage that is thoroughly strapped down. I took my dog across Scotland in it and it was great. Scared to death of dropping the bike, though, but that's always going to be a thing, isn't it? The biggest downside to it however was the rain. I used a tarp to protect him but it basically turned the cage into a massive sail! Which wasn't great on the windy Isle of Skye!! Once the winter clears, I'd like to find a better way to weather-proof it - because aside from that, the cage was definitely a good budget option.
I may have missed the brand but I didn't see him talk about it. Here is the video that talks about him traveling with his dog. th-cam.com/video/CxdIlw5_G6U/w-d-xo.html The tarp was a great idea. I didn't even think of it being like a sail though.

That kind of carrier might be good for the motorcycle ride and something that doesn't create too much movement. Do not buy this if you're planning to use it for walks or hiking. I got one for my dog ( Jack Russell terrier, 13lbs) and after a hike she had horrible skin abrasions on her inner thighs from the fabric rubbing the skin while moving around. Two, my back was killing me after carrying her in front of me rather than on my back. My shoulders were super sore too and that's all after carrying a rather small dog. Bad design for that purpose.
Try a rear rack carrier. Cecil and I have 80k miles and we ride the freeways of socal. Cecil is a 25lb rat terrier. If you google "pawdragger" you will see many pictures and some videos taken of us. I am actually selling his carrier with the rollcage addition now as we are moving across the pond soon! His carrier is a custom build hardwood box with padded marine vinyl covered inserts. he is held inside with a 4 point harness and the latest version of his box has a roll cage!

Thanks for sending the link as I was going to ask. I live in the UK but I'm very inspired by your design! I'll be sharing more videos as soon as the terrible winter here ends and we can get back out on the bikes. Thanks so much for sharing! By the way, I've followed you on Instagram, great account!
An inexpensive alternative would be to find a plastic cooler or heavy duty plastic crate to use. Cut a piece of hardwood that fits inside the cooler on the bottom and drill holes through the hardwood and the cooler and bolt it to your rear rack or to the frame. you can put a seat pad inside for his comfort. install 4 eyebolts (2 on sides, 1 on the back, 1 in front). The cooler should be just large enough for your dog to sit upright with only a little extra room (you dont want him to be able to throw his weight around too much). he should wear a harness with a loop on his back. then you have a strap that goes between the 2 side eyebolts and through his harness loop connected by carabiners, and it should be snug enough so he is forced to remain seated and he cannot stand up. another strap goes from the back of the crate to the loop (extra security), and a bungy goes from the front to his collar (allows him to stretch his neck out to see but not to spin around. cecil loves riding and with a setup like this we share eye contact through the mirrors. you want a setup that you have no worries about, so when the road conditions are intense you can concentrate on driving and not on your dog. and by having a box that fits your dog correctly he can only lean a little bit of his weight which is very important. Cecil is a 25 lb dog but he can only move about 5 lbs of weight from side to side with his setup, and this weight shift has no effect on the handling characteristics of the motorcycle.
Australia looks awesome, I think you will like it there. We wanted to move there too but it was easier for us to get Italian citizenship. I am sure you will come with a solution for your riding style and lifestyle :)
Hello! Thanks so much for this review. Can you give us an update on your thoughts now a few months after the initial review? I wanted to find a slightly higher quality version but they don't seem to be easily made! The problem with this pack is that the original intent I believe was to criss-cross the straps, but this is difficult/impossible with motorcycle gear on unless you're very thin or flexible. So instead you have to wear it with the straps parallel but without a waist strap or something pinning the straps together in the back, it is unstable. I noticed as well at around 4:29 that doggo seems to be waring some sort of bib with a white reflective border. What is that? It doesn't seem apart of the original bag.
Hey Phil! The carrier I used in this video is too small for Harley so I needed a larger and secure solution. I forgot to mention it in the video, but that reflective border is a harness. Basically, while we were riding, I felt he wasn't secure enough, so I readjusted the dog harness he was wearing to include the carrier (so he couldn't slip out). I'm sorry for the confusion! I know your struggle in finding better quality carriers but there's nothing really out there in the market for us folk. If there is, it's very expensive! I've just made a video today about my next solution, which involves a bit more DIY but it's something I've used on multiple trips now. It basically involves a 25L backpack from a military shop and some scissors. What kind of dog do you have? What's their size and weight? Thanks for your questions! :)
Hi GatTD, Yes, it has indeed been a bit difficult. Ours is still a puppy (mini schnauzer) but she will eventually be only around 7kg and 12" in height, so much more manageable. One possibility I'm wondering is to just custom-make a tank bag. Buy an expandable tank bag, and pay a tailor to install a hatch and you can of course sew on a collar attachment. Regarding backpacks, there is the K9 Sport Sack which is sold in the US. However, without a UK supplier, it is hard to know whether it works well on the bike. I haven't been able to find a better quality front sack, which is what brought me to your video. What kind of harness was Harley wearing? Phil
Hi Phil, I know someone who rides with a tank bag - this will never be an option for me, unfortunately - as Harley is too big. Have you heard of Motorbike Milly? The guy's name is Paul, lovely fella, and Milly rides around with him in a tank bag - she looks very content in the videos. Sounds like your mini schnauzer would be a good candidate! Are you in the UK? I know that tank bags aren't legal everywhere, so you're best to check up on that, too. Here's the link to Motorbike Milly's page: facebook.com/motorbikemilly/ Alternatively, just met the Australian "Pack Track" couple the other day - and we're super keen to purchase their Pillion Pooch. I know they've been trying to crowdfund to manufacture and sell them. They've recently toured Africa with their dogs in these, and have had multiple crashes where the dogs came out fine thanks to the aluminium roll bar protecting them. This is currently my dream solution. Here's their FB page: facebook.com/Thepacktrack/
Sorry, regarding the harness - I can't recall what it was. A very cheap generic thing from Pets At Home. It's long gone now as I've bought something better
He's 12.5kg and I bought the largest size available. He's too heavy to carry around like this for long rides though! I rode from Edinburgh to Aberdeen (approx. 3 hours) on the highway as a pillion. My back was quite sore!! This is definitely better for pillion riders with lighter dogs :)
Not sure if it is available in GB, but the K9 Sport Sack is great for dogs his size. I have one that is good for short trips. Timbuk2 also makes several doggy backpacks called The Muttmover, but I'm not sure if any are large enough for him, but when I go on long bicycle trips, this bag is my go to. The Doggles are GREAT though. :o)
Oh boy, I wouldn't recommend it! Harley weighs 12.5kg - I used this carrier riding passenger from Edinburgh to Aberdeen (about 3 hours) and it was incredibly hard on the back. Do you ride solo? If so, I think a carrier on the back of the bike is the way to go for larger/heavier dogs. It will be more comfortable for them, ultimately.
Loved this! How many valium is Harley on? My Patterdale is a twat to get an ordinary harness on...I don't think he'd stay still long enough for that one!
Hahaha, Harley is the chillest dog I have to say. He did wriggle a bit at first but once we started moving, all the interesting smells caught his interest!
Hard to find quality front/rear carrier backpack for dogs. I had one exactly like yours (probably same factory) and the Velcro came undone while riding with my chihuahua during testing, luckily I had him in harness and the carrier has a backup clip to attach to that harness or he would have fallen out. I then had a local tailor add a couple buttons to the Velcro and that worked until my dog got bigger, now even that design is not really usable so he's 3 years old now and I need to come up with something completely new or DIY it in combination with a skilled tailor/sewer to make sure my dogs safe and can start riding with me again. Even enclosed backpacks where my dog is completely covered are not safe. I have one of the spacesuit style where my dog can look out the bubble of the pack and riding him around on my ebike i got a flat and crashed in a fairly busy street and siper of this thing opened and the backup clip broke at the same time and only reason i knew he fell out is because i looked over my shoulder and he was in the middle of the street staring at me. Luckily no injury to him, but im concerned about all these devices now but want to figure out a way to travel. Eye protection (for Big eyed dogs especially) is important, my dogs eyes got highly irritated when i first started riding so I got him some sun glasses called "Doggles" off Amazon and those worked great and will still fit him today..
Any ideas that will work for my 5 lb deerhead Chihuahua.. I wanna be able to carry him on my back where he can look over my shoulder. To go on walks and take him on rides on a regular bike.
Haha, we adopted a second dog last year who is 25kg! I understand the struggle. My boyfriend carries him on the back of his bike with the homemade "Mutt Bucket". There's a good photo on @didiersmith on instagram
Sorry to not get back to you sooner with your question. As you found out, this is for the front yep. Do you ride solo with your dog? I'd strongly recommend a carrier that sits on the back of your bike! I will be making a video about this soon as I've done exactly that :)
Hey girl Fellow aussie here Looks like youre in UK remember Aussie is the nanny state. Not sure if its legal here to carry doggo in backpack . Do u know if this is true ?
Hello! Ah, I'm actually living back in Australia now (WA). I'm aware that dogs are not allowed to be between you and the handlebars. I've been meaning to make a video about this as I've been trying various ways to take Harls on the bike. But I don't want to keep you waiting so here you go :) I currently have a "pillion pooch" on the back of my bike, which has been awesome. Lots of cops smile and wave at me when they see me, so seems to be OK! I've put a link below. thepacktrack.com/?rfsn=2813624.9396f9 My boyfriend carries his dog on the back of his bike with a homemade "mutt bucket" (check out @didiersmith on instagram). Been riding with his dog in that for a while now and no authorities have raised any issues. One cop pulled us over for your regular Sunday breathalyser and seeing the dog in the back, he said "I know I don't have to worry about you guys!" - he didn't even test us in the end, guess we got caught up in the conversation! Long story short, I encourage you to find a solution to get the dog on the back of the bike, positioned behind you like luggage. I've seen some people put a dog in a pannier but I also have a friend that had their pannier sideswiped off by an oncoming car on a mountain bed... They're ultimately safer there - both of us have dropped the bikes with the dogs on them, wasn't an issue. The Pillion Pooch has been professional engineered, load tested, but costs a pretty penny. Or you could whip up a DIY solution like we did for the Mutt Bucket. The important part is to be able to attach them (in a harness) to the carrier. I'd love to know if you do get your dog on the bike!
I have a Jack Russell and want to take him on my bike but I'm worried about him being safe. I think having him a front rucksack would be safest as if I come off, I'd instinctively protect him. What do you think? Top box is tempting but fixed to the bike and he'd slam around inside in a crash :(
I haven't tried riding with Harley solo in a rucksack, I think it would be easier on a bike with an upright seating position but my own bike is a Ducati Monster 796. That being said, a crash in any case is never good for anyone involved :( I do know there are some dog carriers that sit on the tank, though! (here's an example after one quick google search: goo.gl/yY9M4b) As your dog is a Jack Russell, you are lucky in that you have some more options open to you. The most important thing is that they can be secured, comfortable, and ideally you want to have some solution to wind noise - which is why I think the bags/boxes may have some advantages. I'm actively looking for solutions and I'll be making more videos once the winter hazards clear from the roads! Would love to hear whether you do manage to get your Jack Russell on the bike :D
Carrying a dog on your person is not the best solution as it is distracting. IMO the safest carrier for your pet is one that is impact resistant, bolts securely to the motorcycle, and restrains the animal so it is not possible for him/her to get out. When traffic gets heavy and requires 100% of your concentration you don't want your dog distracting you, even for 1/10th of a second. Most people do not understand but having a solution that is not distracting to you is as important as crash protection. Cecil is a rat terrier and a very similar breed to your Jack Russel. Your Jack will likely love riding after he get's accustomed to it. Cecil barks at cars doing 75mph to get out of his way, and he has 80k miles in 6 years :) Here is a video someone took of him riding on the freeway, as you can see he has a lot of movement and yet he is secure and his custom carrier is impact resistant. He is also wearing a custom armored back protector and doggles, and we communicate with each other through the mirrors. www.socimage.com/media/1190217219553482617_3610628
Hi my name is Will from Ventura California USA ( the beach) I just got dog backpack for the very same reason I'm a motorcycle rider and I it want to be able to take pistol with me on all my Fun rides also for the sake of transportation taking him to the groomers and such. Anyways I felt compelled to comment because Pistol is a miniature pinscher and looks just like your little Harley. And I ordered a backpack online I also got goggles as well. So he has really long legs which which is making it kind of difficult to get him into the backpack however it it looks like it will fit perfect That's what I was hoping to see was maybe maybe if there's a trick to getting your dog into the backpack I went with the delux model with the zipper and the Clips with the waterproof inside Just in case he has to potty I won't find out by getting my shirt ruined Lol I'm still waiting on the goggles anyways I just had to say that that Harley is adorable and I hope you guys have many miles any miles of enjoyment on the open road. Loved the video he looked so happy on the bike.
Make a carrier to put the dog on the back :D I'm currently using a "Pillion Pooch" thepacktrack.com/?rfsn=2813624.9396f9 but my boyfriend made his own for his 25kg dog. I really ought to make another video on these haha
While I appreciate your efforts to accommodate your dog, it does nothing to protect him. What if you go down. Your gear will most likely protect you but not the dog. I encourage you to do all you can to protect that beautiful animal. Here's what I've done for my dog. Since there is no company dedicated to pet protection on a motorcycle, I have been fabricating gear out of a tactical vest using motorcyclist armor, Doggles brand dog goggles, plastic dog helmet with closed cell foam inside, and protective dog boots like Ruff Wear brand, and she will be inside a sturdy dog carrier which is made of tough plastic. Although this gear is not as protective as motorcyclist jackets, pants, boots, helmets, etc, it is the best I can come up with and I feel she has a good chance of surviving if we go down. If she got hurt and I didn't do all I can to protect her beforehand I would feel terrible.
Thanks for your comment and your concern - I know it comes from the heart! It's true that our dogs are at risk on the bikes, as much as we are ourselves. I have heard of some special people out there making kevlar gear for dogs! I have been devising more secure methods of carrying dogs on the motorbikes, more comfortable for both canine and rider and more protective, and I'll be sharing these soon! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and comments :) If you have an instagram account of your adventures with your dog, I'd love to follow it!
Thank you. Though I don't use Istagram I will be doing something on TH-cam. Since my injuries are extensive the main trip will be months away, But I'm sure a channel will surface around that timeframe. I would love to see some of your ideas. I did basic stuff for my dog but she definitely won't wear a helmet. A vest and boots are her tolerance. @@girlandthetravellingdog1278
Hmm, there are quite a few USA options. Very pricey though and out of my budget. I'm keeping an eye out for the Pillion Pooch - a young couple in the UK (see their blog the Pack Track) are trying to bring them to the market.

Hi GatTD,
Yes, it has indeed been a bit difficult.
Here's the link to Motorbike Milly's page: facebook.com/motorbikemilly/
Alternatively, just met the Australian "Pack Track" couple the other day - and we're super keen to purchase their Pillion Pooch.
It's long gone now as I've bought something better
so damn cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm just going to get a pet voyager, but the goggles are doope. thanks for sharing
Oh, and love your bike... drool
How much does Harley weigh and what size harness is he?
Ohh, this looks amazing! They look like they have amazing support, too, which is essential with a larger dog. Thanks so much for the recommendation!
do you think one of these could carry a fully grown pit-lab mix?
Oh boy, I wouldn't recommend it! Harley weighs 12.5kg - I used this carrier riding passenger from Edinburgh to Aberdeen (about 3 hours) and it was incredibly hard on the back. Do you ride solo? If so, I think a carrier on the back of the bike is the way to go for larger/heavier dogs. It will be more comfortable for them, ultimately.
Awesome vid!!!!
Thanks César!
Patterdales for you, mines the same, doesnt stay still in a car not sure how he would be on my drz..
How much your dog weighs??
Lovely
I to have a aftica twin my dogs are 50 pounds though.
Haha, we adopted a second dog last year who is 25kg! I understand the struggle. My boyfriend carries him on the back of his bike with the homemade "Mutt Bucket". There's a good photo on @didiersmith on instagram
Can this be used so the dog has their chest on your back, looking over your shoulder ? :))
Nevermind, the Amazon link says legs front facing...
Sorry to not get back to you sooner with your question. As you found out, this is for the front yep. Do you ride solo with your dog? I'd strongly recommend a carrier that sits on the back of your bike! I will be making a video about this soon as I've done exactly that :)
Hey girl
Fellow aussie here
Looks like youre in UK
remember Aussie is the nanny state.
But I don't want to keep you waiting so here you go :)
I currently have a "pillion pooch" on the back of my bike, which has been awesome. Lots of cops smile and wave at me when they see me, so seems to be OK! I've put a link below.

My boyfriend carries his dog on the back of his bike with a homemade "mutt bucket" (check out @didiersmith on instagram).
I love this. I just bought a scooter and want to take my dog. He’s 50 pounds though
(here's an example after one quick google search: goo.gl/yY9M4b)
As your dog is a Jack Russell, you are lucky in that you have some more options open to you.
Girl and the Travelling Dog So far I've just started the bike up with him near. He wasn't keen :)
Aww, yeah, Harley was nervous too at first. He's much more relaxed once we're moving - guess the wind and the smells help

Love it hahah
So glad you enjoyed it!! :D
Watch bagster puppy
my wife is buying one now .
Fab!! How is the result?
my wife and the dog love it , dog took to it with no trouble .
@@auggy53 That's so wonderful!! :D
Did you say your dog is muted?!?!
Muted? No, he's not. Not sure what that would even mean.
Looks like mia melano.
You left your GoPro on the ground D:
Eye of a hawk you have! Hahaha. I realised that, too, shortly after departing! Phew! :D

What if I don't have a girlfriend I mean if I do a single r i d e
Make a carrier to put the dog on the back :D I'm currently using a "Pillion Pooch" thepacktrack.com/?rfsn=2813624.9396f9 but my boyfriend made his own for his 25kg dog. I really ought to make another video on these haha
Haha, I'm eagerly waiting.. ..
@@autumngreenleaf3390 Very sorry to hear of your extensive injuries - I wish you a swift recovery and look forward to your channel launch!!
What this beautiful lady doing whit this Indian guy
What she cant do this diseased white walker. Growing Love and family. Which you seem to be a noobie at. Momma issues ?
From CHINA CHINA CHINA where else ? Never found any made in the USA or Europe !
Hmm, there are quite a few USA options. Very pricey though and out of my budget. I'm keeping an eye out for the Pillion Pooch - a young couple in the UK (see their blog the Pack Track) are trying to bring them to the market.
