Los Campesinos seem to inspire the calculated indifference of hipsters more than any band since the Arcade Fire. With that said, this is the most wonderful single I've heard all year.
omg full length rules! thanks to this band for making me feel like i'm awesome even though i'm only 17... they think that's cool. also, props to this for making me feel not so alone in my indifference toward calvin johnson. props to amazing violin parts (and hot violinists everywhere.)
I think what you miss is the fact that the song is mocking the music snobbery that you accused them of embodying. The songs about the underground saving us from "the underground".
I really like this. For once a current young British band being a bit different and having some fun. Isn't this produced by David Newfield of BSS fame?
Some people on youtube care deeply about Henry Rollins, and define their lives by Amelia Fletcher. The International TweeXcore Underground will save us all, though.
it's just references to famous twee singers and famous punk singers, since the song is about a twee pop fan and a punk rock fan arguing. or at least that's what the los campesinos tvtropes page said lol
@LateNightGames its supposed to be an argument between a indie pop fan, and a punk fan, so they decide that they should combine the two, and make tweexcore.... so technically he didn't diss henry rollins
okay well i don't blame you for thinking that! but an ongoing trend in music video comments is to put down other artists just to get likes and i find it pretty distasteful. like if you go to any music video, there's probably a 1 out of 5 chance that the top comment will be about how much justin bieber sucks and how much attention he gets. also, i've learned that hating the mainstream industry won't get you anywhere in life.
The discord of the vocal style is surely integral to the theme of their songs and reinforces the message in their lyrics. And personally I disagree when you say the woman sounds as if she's "trying too hard". Although the accent does sound pretentious I wouldn't have said she sounds otherwise strained.
If you like being counter productive then whatever. I can't change that and I don't feel like trying. But the mainstream stuff is everywhere I go and I've learned to hold a slight appreciation for some of it because it makes my life a lot easier. Now when a Justin Bieber or One Direction song comes on I take it for what it is- a silly pop song. If you want to tense up with hate every time you're in someone else's car or the mall or a club, then be my guest.
you can tell there doin it for the music not for the money because it seems they just got a lode of friends, didnt care what instumet they played and started making music
"What the hell are the band members doing in the video, especially the lead singer, looks like a big fat turd sandwich." Sorry I just reckon that needed quoting.
Telling people that hating the mainstream industry won't get you anywhere in life... won't get you anywhere in life, but you do it anyway. Not everything we do has to get us somewhere, it's counter productive and that's just how we like it. And the mainstream industry deserves our hate, they're beating a dead horse with that whole swag thing and it died faster than it came.
I'm not actually a big fan of the band, I just checked them out because Gruff from the Super Furries said they were good. They're not to my taste, but I'm sure their fans don't want to hear me spouting off about why I don't like them, so I don't. Just because you love Henry Rollins so much (even though Greg Ginn was the talent in Black Flag) there's no need to be a dick to the fans of this band.
Sorry for being dense, but why does this song come across as snobbish? i always thought this was about the merging of two twee pop and hardcore people, to create one happy group of people/music.
Necroposting this 11 year old comment to ask genuinely if you've thought their "recent" stuff is still not holding up as much, I think No Blues was a change but still kept their core identity in tact.
I never equated there minimal support with their fans opinions on music. Their opinions and tastes are their opinions and tastes. They're obviously musically discerning to be listening to this band instead of something awful like Westlife.
OH my...I'd love to hear your musical response to the engagement of Avril Lavigne and that untalented goon from Nickleback. What a disaster....um, threw up in my mouth a lot when I read that..........
I simply wanted to point out that the reason this band will never be more than a small time British student cult act is because their music is musically snobby ('I never liked Henry Rollins....I never got my ears pierced and look how I turned out') and because they're complete contrived (look at the song name for christ's sake.)I'm simply saying that those 2 factors are why they'll never have more than a minuscule number of fans.
This is one of the most contrived songs I've ever had the bad luck to stumble across. Being different counts for nothing if its this boring, snobby and insipid as this. But I'm sure those 35 or so people who actually, deep down, like this song will be content to reassure themselves that I just don't get it and that I'm like everyone else. Whatever...I'm just ever-so-slightly musically discerning...
To be honest mate its the snobbishness of this song that riles me. Listen to what they're actually saying. 'I've never been in Henry Rollins...' ....who gives a crap, that doesn't make a good subject matter.
Funny, my main problem with the song was that people care more about the snobbish nature of the lyrics that the actual musical content, which is quite poor. Yet you've completely missed that and chose to attack me because, of course, I just don't get it.... Whatever. Good luck to you and this poor excuse for a band. If this is the best they can come up with then they'll need all the luck and people like you that they'll get.

Gr8 song. great album too

The lyrics are very witty. I didn't notice what they were getting at until just now. So much punk satire.
