What I love about this channel it gets right to the point without rambling before getting to the information we need. Good job 👏🏻
I appreciate that!
I agree. Just get to the point, why does everything have to be a production?
Good video! I used to grow them commercially (and hybridize them). Commercial growers wait til the end of summer or beginning of fall to dig up and separate rhizomes. It allows them to grow bigger before the dormant season, thus giving them a better chance at blooming the next spring. Thanks again, they really are easy to grow with lots of sunlight. Happy growing!
Thanks for adding in your expert tip!! Helping the community learn more
Useful info! Wishing you all the success you deserve. You're actually a TH-cam Gardener that knows what he's doing and can speak in complete sentences! Plus you have the most hairstyles of anybody, haha!
New hair every season haha
Do you have a video about seeding irises?
Thanks for the info. I need to divide 2 large clumps but wasn't sure how to begin. Good timing!!!
Glad I could help!
Perfect timing. Just followed your instructions on my Iris. A dozen bulbs drying in the shade. Thank you.
Wonderful!
How informative without all of the shenanigans. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Me tooo. 💚
Thank you! Great and easy tips…was worried about cutting my Iris…now I know😊!
Happy to help!
Love that you go over the full cycle of Iris care in a clear and simple way! For replanting after rhizome cures, is it best to do it in fall or spring? Or just as soon as sliced area dries pop it where you want it?
Just as soon as it calluses over!
Hi Devin .
I enjoyed watching this cool video about Iris . Have a great day .🌿
Thank you! You too!
Very helpful. Thank you so much! I have a huge iris patch & I appreciate this info.
Great!!
Perfect timing as usual. I have been meaning to get to this job. Now I know exactly how to go about it properly. Thanks
Thanks for your continued support :)
i learned a lot of your video on how to do and don'ts about irises as I start collecting them last year... thank you
Glad I could help!
Well done Devin, very clear video!
🙌🙌
This is perfect timing! I was just looking at my irises and wondering what to do now that (three years in) they’re finally to the point where they’re both blooming and getting a little thick.
Glad you found the video!!
thank you for sharing this at this exact moment! this was on my feed and it's exactly why i came in to check how to do my iris. lol again, thank you for sharing in your straight forward way....love your videos! remember to breathe....
Hahah breathing and efficient delivery shouldn’t be mutually exclusive lol
Thanks Devin, for the very good information in this video.
My pleasure!
Thank you…very timely. My neighbour gave me some of her irises recently and I planted them wrong 🤦♀️. Will dig them up and replant. Many thanks!
Good luck!
Thank you so much, Devin! I've been learning so much from your videos! I will definitely use your advice on my irises. Can you please, talk about other plants in this flower bed? It looks so full, natural and lush! I love the look of a completely green flower bed (no big mulched spaces in between) but don't know how to achieve it without overcrowding and suffocating neighboring plants. Thank you again for the wonderful channel.
I’m planning on filming that bed very soon!!
This was very informative. Thank you for this video. 😃
Glad it was helpful!
Big commitment
?
I really enjoy the simple and direct approach 911 chatter just the information that we need. Thank you so very much I guess I already subscribed and didn't realize I haven't seen you in a while I guess
Happy to hear that :)
Very helpful video and perfect timing too. I'm a beginner with the bearded Iris but planted some I got free years ago. I have 3 large 3ft by 3ft clumps to break up and replant here in Fresno CA. Probably not until August here do to the heat. going to be 95 today. One thing I missed that I heard here was to plant the rhizome so it gets direct sunlight as it is needed for better flowering. Might have a different placement of the growth fan then. Glad I subscribed to you some months ago.
Just purchased a Hori Hori knife now too. I had never heard of them🙂
I’ve not heard that regarding rhizome placement but could be some truth to it!
Learned lots! Thanks
:)
I have never fertilized my Iris and they keep producing beautiful flowers year after year.
That’s awesome!
Thank You!
You're welcome!
I always heard you should wait until July or August to divide irises. I divided several clumps last year and they all bloomed, but 2 which I can’t figure out because the foliage was extremely healthy.
Hmm I’ve never heard that before. Any rationale why?
thank you for this! I have several iris in my yard... this year only one bloomed, the other 6 locations none of them bloomed and Im not sure why...I was wondering when to divide my iris, your video looks like it was made in May but Im watching it in July is it too late to divide them now or should I wait until the Fall when its a bit cooler maybe?...Devin another question I have is this: I have a yard that is tiered levels and Im not sure what the former owner filled the tiers in with but things dont grow well... I try to do everything organic and improve the soil with compost but I have to fertilize to get anything to grow because the fill soil is not good... one thing thats mystifying me is several plants that should be tall are growing stunted like Yarrow is 2-4inches instead of feet, echinacea is less than a foot tall and spindly, windflower only a few inches, a dahlia about 4 inches, some giant zinnia seeds are growing very short and weak..... its like they grow dwarfed. I put some fertilizer on some other plants (joe pye weed, nepeta and bergamot) and that helped them but these others I mention are still stunted. Im just a beginner so dont know alot about what could be causing this. I wish you were in the Pacific northwest so you could come over and give us a consult!
Perhaps your other iris aren’t getting enough sun? You can definitely divide now. Are you irrigating the plants on the tier? That could be stunting their growth
long time Iris grower here. My Iris definitely won't bloom if the rhizomes to not get enough sunlight for the season or too much rain. They right want to check if the roots are covered by mulch or haven't had direct sunlight.
Too much fertilizer will on many plants too close to bloom time produce more foliage than blossoms.
My suggestion is to research the plants and their needs- ie preferred water, Sun and soil conditions companion planting native flowers and for your region can be really helpful as well. :) hope it goes well for you 💚
@@KniDonovan thank you so much! yes, I am stumped... I did one early spring lite fertilizing, and they get about full day sunlight, I water them once a week or twice if really hot (over 90) ... maybe the rhisome is too deep I can see it on top of the soil but maybe I should take them all out and re plant them even higher so more rhisome is showing, I will try that I think
@@aeastman59 It sounds like you are doing great! ( green thumb)
Some years seem persnickety. I honestly did not have even ONE bloom this year ( cry! ) They are the jewel of my garden. I've had lesser or more bloom years before especially after dividing them up.
I've wondered especially with my Irises-if sometimes I can dote on my plants a little TOO much and they do fine on their own. ☺️
HELP!! I was given yellow bearded iris by a friend last summer. I have followed your instructions for planting, but I had only 1 to bloom. They all came up with beautiful green leaves. What did I do wrong? Thank you for your help.
are they in sufficient sun?
@@plantvibrations Full Sun 6+ hours
Saw a good hint about dividing iris. After digging them up, look for where the green fans are growing. Anything that does not have growth coming out if it is useless. That’s the part he threw away. Had no green growth.
🙌🙌
I have a few Immortality Reblooming Bearded Irises, can I divide them now or should I wait until fall? They are over grown and have a circle in the middile of the patch.
Depends if you want them to rebloom this year or not as usually they don’t right after division. Irises are so hardy you can divide them literally any time but you won’t necessarily get blooms that same year. I am in zone 5. 😄👍
now is probably best
thank you for your helpful comments :)
Looks like you divided them right after flowering. Is that ok?
You can divide irises basically anytime, they are so hardy. But usually anytime after flowering is best. 🥰👍
Yes thats best time
thanks!
I forgot to add I live in Indiana zone 6a.

I think you just have to be lucky...I bought plants from a reputable dealer...but didn't get the success I wanted..
Darn
I’ve given up on irises. They are not easy to grow. I’ve spent hundred of dollars purchasing them. I’ve done everything to help them grow. Planting them at the right depth and fertilizing them. I get beautiful foliage but very few blooms year after year. For many years. I give up. They’re not worth spending time on them. I’m digging them up from my garden and giving them away. I want them out of my garden.
Sorry to hear that
