    Its such a pity nearly 90% of mauritians havent been to kanaka crater ! N yet it forms such a big part of the history of our island! The government should have atleast since long build good roads so that maximum persons can visit this beautiful place. There are none or few signs ...Sadly it has been left in the shadows...we could have many tourists here

      I think it should be left like that. We don't want another wave of litter/ destruction. Look at the state of our beaches versus the underdeveloped south. We don't need another rich owner opening a case Creole thingy there. Nice video and sharing video like these is enough for us in the name of preservation.

      They could sign-post it a bit better. We drove thru the tea region last week and saw a sign, turned off, and the road stopped! Nothing, not even signs where to continue on foot..

    There are some 22 Volcanes in Mairitius, namely: Forbach, Mont Virer, Butte aux Papayes, The Mount, Mont Piton, Mont William, La Nicolière, Volcan l'Escalier (at Nouvelle Découverte), Bar Le Duc, Mont Alma, Mont Verdun, Butte Chaumon, Volcan Malherbes, Trou aux Cerfs, Curepipe Point, Trou Madame Bouchet at Mont Perruche, Trou Kanaka, Trou Raoul, Grand-Bassin, Volcan Bois-Chéri, volcan Les Mares, and Bassin Blanc.

      You will see that they all align in a straight line, starting from the north to the south. There is a place in the south, where you can see the traces of lava on volcanic rocks.
      There is one person whom you need to meet, Mr. Prem Suddul, he can give you a lot of information on the creation of the island by volcanic activities which occured in three different stages.

      jayesh lakha Hey, sure. A few tips: safety - honestly, you’re coming from Jhb, so there’s nothing to worry about other than just being sensible (don’t leave your phone, camera laptop lying around...) Car hire I would do from the airport directly. On the East I would check out Iles aux cerfs and the nearby waterfall (beware of tourists!) also La Cambuse beach and Point D’esny. On the South Le Morne and Pomponette are very picturesque. The west: check out Flic en Flac for snorkeling, Iles aux Benitiers and head up North to the more vibey Grand Bay. Enjoy!

    Thank you Lucy for the video on Trou Kanaka..i've been there for a couple of time in my school days.Really beside the dormant crater itself the greenery view dominates the region..an unspoiled natural beauty which appeals to the eyes.
    If have'nt yet discovered the Bassin Blanc crater i recommend you to have a visit there since it is more easily accessible by vehicular means.It is beside the asphalted road on the right along Petrin to Surinam.

    Thank you so much for this amazing view of old Trou Kanaka. As commented down here, it is sad that this part of Mauritius is almost inaccessible. And sad too to reckon that we give little attention to our geological past, just a few paragraphs in our primary geography book. Can you imagine how a guided tour for our school children, to a few interesting places like this one can help awaken a deep respect for the natural beauty of our Mother Earth? That feeling can become the very basis of our spiritual experience, arousing the sense of being one with all that exist. I can sense this in you showing a magnificent tree, or a nice flower on your way to the top! Thank you again.

    • @LucyLeheilleix
      @LucyLeheilleix  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for this lovely comment. I have come to love Mauritius because there is so much more than just the luxury hotels and beaches (as are advertised in the holiday brochures). I do feel very strongly that more conservation needs to be done so that this island can be preserved better (the Seychelles seem to be on the right track). This crater and the pyramids have been two of my absolute favorite discoveries on the island. I do hope that more positive environmentally friendly initiatives are on the horizon so that this place can continue to be beautiful for generations to come.

      @@LucyLeheilleix You are welcome to our lovely island, with your family! I have become your fan, I should say! I am also very sensitive to my surrounding, and thanks to my uncle who was my mentor during my childhood, I never miss taking my camera where ever I go! I did buy a Nikon AS reflex camera years back and now I just use a light Fuji digital camera to immortalize existence in multiple fractions of a second, for my pleasure! But the love for Mother Nature should be awakened in others. I feel really sad some times when I witness how much harm mankind has done to her, and to so many other lovely beings who share this planet. So thank you so much for participating, with your photographic creativity, in the same sense. I too have assembled a few of my best moments on Earth into short videos on youtube. It is my pleasure to invite you to watch them when you find some time! Hope your knee is back in good shape. My best wishes to you and family. Hello to your two cute ladies!
