In laying out tile, always find center of the run. The center line will be the center of the tile or between tiles for a standard running bond pattern. Metal trim edging also works nicely as a full border against cabinets and countertops. Prime the walls before using mastic, you don't want to mastic right over drywall compound.
Hi there. If you remove it before the adhesive/thinset dries, then it's not difficult at all. After drying, your best bet is to try to carefully peel it off and hope you only remove the paint coat. This is one of the reasons I painted the wall before tiling. If you are tiling on cement board, you may have to chisel it out.
Adhesive or modified thinset? I guess you use adhesive if tiling over drywall. I'm using cement backer board so I guess I use modified thinset. I recall, that's what the backer board manufacturer said.
Hi there. Countertops are considered a dry area, so we used an acrylic adhesive like MAPEI Type 1 Ceramic Tile Mastic on painted drywall. Mastic is premixed and an easier consistency to work with, however it takes longer to fully cure. For any wet areas like a bathroom, you'll want to use concrete based materials like cement board and thinset.
Hey Tim. I recommend using a laser level to make the tiles straight even if the counters aren't. Start with the lowest end, and as you work towards the higher end, you can shave off the bottom of each tile as you go along. This will be less noticeable than leaving a big gap where the counter is lower. Best of luck!
Seeing your niche trowel handle full of mastic drive me crazy. Also when installing schluter since is small using a margine trowel works way better also you didn’t polish your cuts that drive crazy as well.

You're welcome!
Wouldve been great to see how you replaced that cracked tile at the outlet. How do you remove a tile without destroying the drywall behind it?.

What do you do if the countertops are 1/2 inch off from end to end to the bottom of the cabinets?

If you use drywall mud, make sure you prime it.
pros say not to use dry wall mud unless you seal it........
