- Edward Taylor plays the fourth of the Quatre pièces pour orgue op 37 by the composer Joseph Jongen.
The Belgian composer wrote much music for the organ. His epic Sonata Eroica is among the favourites in many organists library but his Symphonie Concertante written in 1926 is considered by many to be among the greatest works ever written for organ and orchestra.
The Chorale, taken from his Op 37, starts gently on the swell foundations and builds throughout to an almighty climax on the full organ. The harmony starts in a fairly simple way but thickens in texture and becomes more rich including a counter melody in the right foot of the pedals whilst the left foot holds the bass note.
Performed here on the organ of Carlisle Cathedral
