This guys are masters of finnish melancholy, and the album Moonflowers, is one of the top five best albums of 2021, they even released this whole album in full animation on TH-cam. True artists. You should know Kai Hahto of Nightwish was part of this band at some point, and Anette was vocal invited in Cathedral Walls, react to that song.
Swallow the sun released nine albums and all of them are outstanding in their own way. It's all Swallow the sun though, the same haunting darkness on every release, but there are so many songs, where you find what you were asking for, the light at the end of the tunnel, the glimpse of hope. There is a very sad story behind this band but still they keep on sharing their dark thoughts and experiences and many times giving us and themselves hope and over all this enormous musicality! This driving dark professional sound they developed over two decades is outstanding, same with the development of the vocals... So many extraordinary songs, can't name just one. But if you're planning to do one more, I guess most popular is Cathedral walls and there you have also a video with a band playing 😉 favourites: Don't fall asleep These woods breathe evil Sleepless swans New moon Upon the water Firelights Etc.............
Swallow the Sun is one of the finest metal bands. They make incredibly deep, layered, sad, strong and beautiful music. Their work is heavy, but very lyrical and poetic. And the last album was based on the personal tragedy of the band's guitarist - the loss of a beloved woman.
I think the most chilling part of Moonflowers is the lack of vocals from Aleah. It really makes the loss hit much harder, since even the previous album had posthumous vocals from her.
There newer Albums (to which Moonflower counts) are all this style whereas their older albums are more agressive and harder (I like both). If you want to check out the older style I recommend the song "Swallow (Horror Pt. 1)".
"Dear Council Of Nerdom, I write to you in the hopes of suggesting OSN to react to Hallatar - My Mistake, especially since it's got the same guitarist at its core, Juha Raivio, but there he's really pouring his heart out in every note, as it's a tribute to his lost love, Aleah Starbridge." Also, a fresh video from Once Human just dropped today: Scar Weaver. Their album is coming tomorrow and it's totally worth checking them out, it's groovy, heavy, aggressive, female fronted.
Their first three albums are near to perfection! You can't go wrong if you try any of the songs on those albums. Maybe you can start the rabbit hole with "Out of This Gloomy Light" or "The Ship" if you want a slower song
I am surprised that you haven't done a reaction to any Amon Amarth songs yet. They are a Swedish Viking metal band. I would recommend either the official music video for "At Dawn's First Light" or the official live video for "Twilight of the Thunder God"
Have listened these guys last 16 years. First song I heard from these guys was Don't fall asleep (Horror pt.2), and I fell in love straight! It got music video also, so try that one. If you want newer ones, I suggest "Here on this Black Earth". IMO one of their best written songs. And you really need to know what have happened to this band/songwriter to understand why these last couple albums are what it are!
"Gloom, beauty and despair" is their brandmark. Their triple album "Songs from the North I, II and III" has it all. First its set is traditional Swallow the Sun, second acoustic, and then comes despair. Your choice :D
And after these, I need to suggest Hallatar. It's Juha's (songwriter) project, what he did after losing his wife. All lyrics are her poems. My Mistake is so fucking beautiful and depressing at the same time.
Come on.. When will you react to rotting christ .. Just choose a song like Threnody, fire god and fear or demonon vrosis .. Don't be afraid of their band name ..🤣😂 Try it first to find out
