In Japan I have met many (mainly) Americans who demand Japanese people to speak good English for them. I was educated in England and they don't even like me to speak in English accent! I didn't know how to categorize their attitude but so far it looks like linguistic imperialism? Living in a foreign country for years and not learning the country's language and demand the people to speak one's own language (perfectly). The whole attitude is so absurd, so hard to comprehend. I don't know how to strike back to be honest.

Most people think English is like Absolute Truth, especially countries in Asia , they prefer to learn English and try to speak it with either American or British accent to show they are educated and trendy. Most of them neglect the existence of other languages such as French, Spanish , German , Italian and so on because they view such languages as useless for their business. Thailand is one of the countries who behave like that. Thai people are dominated by the influential concept of "English as Modernity and Elite." Most Thai students are forced and hypnotized to learn English to get a good job in the future.

no one neglect the existence of other languages, thats a lie. it is just useless wasting time to learn languages you can not use or have only limited use....
